  It is not designed to be opened and read - only used if necessary.  There is no program to open this type of file and see something other than gibberish which cannot be read.  The only way to test it is actuallly use - but it's your decision.

The end result is that I found that the administrative password for my 8600 died with the old Mac that I have been unable to recover the keychain that had all the information a password in it.   I see that you are trying to reset the administrative password for your HP Officejet Pro 8600, and I'm happy to help you!

  You can do a reset of the printer using the LED screen on the printer. Select Configuration, then Tools, then restore the default settings. "Restore default settings" is the last element of the list, and then you must scroll down to see it.
   
  This clears all the settings of the printer, including the administrator password.

  1. Set your BIOS so that it uses the DVD drive as its primary boot device.
  2. Start the computer with your Windows 7 repair CD.
  3. Press a key when prompted to boot from the DVD.
  4. Select 'PC Repair' in the menu.
  5. Select 'Repair' when prompted.
  6. When you are prompted, select System Restore.
  7. Configure Windows to a point before you changed the password.
  8. Plan ahead a little and create, test and document an alternative admin account, same as you have a spare emergency House key. This will save you a lot of trouble.
