  • How to use Time Capsule with Time Machine and no Wifi

Situation.  Late 2009 iMac with OSX 10.7.5.  Used Airport Extreme since purchase in early 2010.  Use a modem cable from Arris SB 6141.  Decided to upgrade to 2 TB Time Capsule.  And the problems started.  I put TC in place... Finally, with the help of the people of this forum (thanks).  Transport CANADA does not have the internet connection to the Modem.  New to this forum I discovered that the TC does not like the SB6141.  So I put the Airport Extreme in the network and work like a charm wireless.

Now, how can I connect the TC to the network or the Mac to use the part Time Machine?

I tried to put the TC in Airport Extreme with an ethernet cable.  First, the iMac would not recognize the local network by removing printers and the other external USB drive; and my TV got confused on what wifi network with the same name in which to connect.

Before I hit the reset button on the time Capsule I tried to ask what would be the right steps.

Thanks to the folks on this forum. Thanks for your help.  Hope you all a good holiday this year.

You should not have really big questions on Lion.

Connect the WAN of TC port on the ethernet port LAN AE.

Configure the TC in bridge. I disable the wireless to EI and let it run in the TC... that's much better work in this configuration.

The Mac that will backup must really be connected to the TC in direct wireless or ethernet... This will help loads.

The wireless work better on the TC... If it isn't, then you can swap EI... but I'd be surprised if that was the case.

  • Is it safe to remove files from my macbook air now that I have set up my time capsule and backed up with time machine? My boot drive is full. How can I access files of my time capsule once they are deleted from my computer?

1 n ° put them on a regular external drive and the value of Time Machine to back up as well; the files you want to keep should be at least two disks in case one of them goes down.

    2. they will not be usable until the restoration.

  • Can I use time capsule as external hard drive?

Can I use time capsule as external hard drive so that I can access a file or a specific folder by searching for its name?

A TC is now and for always player network... no external. So there are limits to its use.

If you are multitasking your TC with Time Machine and then using a DMG file as a virtual drive is better than directly copy files... However sharing becomes impossible. One person at a time can open the DMG.

    See pondini. T3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html

Old but still interesting to read.

You can certainly create a folder on the TC and copy your files on it, and then perform a search. Research is slow on wireless is so the speed of transfer of large files. With the help of ethernet is certainly encouraged to desktop computers.

Sharing folders on the TC is also now more difficult with increasing security at El Capo and OS later. You do not create on the computer records are not available. And even the ones you create can occasionally and autonomous change permissions (since the TC controls drive not the computer), you lock your own files on... I answer these questions once a week.

Not all software on Mac supports using network drives. The most difficult is photos that can corrupt the library due to disconnections... which are the most common wireless. Be warned backups are important and not easy to do because of the slowness of the USB port on the TC and you end up really need to another location on the network for backup on.

Generally, I advise the people not not to use the TC for direct files... That is to say, if you edit a document, make sure that it is on a local drive... When you have finished the document, you can copy it to the network drive and delete the local version. Easy for... not so easy documents for photos with major libraries.

A TC cannot save itself and Time Machine backup impossible network drives... This means that no backup will be your files in the TC, unless you take the initiative and do it.

  • connection to the internet using time capsule

I have problems connecting to the internet using time capsule. It detects my wireless network but will not connect to internet. I run ipconfig/all and it comes up with media disconnected. If I put any security on my wireless network, it finds the network and go on the internet with no problems.

Thanks for the help in advance

    Hello Pudgex76,

I suggest looking on the forums of Apple for more information if necessary:
  • Use Time Machine to back up files in Windows

Can I back up files of the window automatically to the Time Machine in the Mac Help. I want to only backup data from applications.

    Thnx.

Time Machine is not 100% reliable in the backup and restore of Virtual Machines and I would never use Time Machine to back up Virtual Machines and would exclude the folder containing my Virtual Machines to be backed up by Time Machine!

That said, if the files in question are outside of the Virtual Machine and inside the OS X Filesystem, for example in your Home folder, then Time Machine will back up what the file system of the host that is not excluded.

You can also try the Capsule in the Finder for editing by selecting the data folder. He will ask the password to connect to the time Capsule.

  • Can you use a time capsule to back up a HP computer to window 10

I have a new HP laptop and want to use my time Capsule to do the backup

Things would be tons easier if you purchased a USB simple and plugged directly on the HP laptop for backups.

If you really don't want to do things the hard way... you will need software of PC which is able to save to a network drive.  95% of the product to PC Backup software does not back up to a network drive.

Are there are two applications I've used in the past and that worked well.

  • Using Time Capsule airport on 2 devices

for some reason, I have a PET of brain here and do not understand this.

My wife has a laptop computer macpro she does his grad school stuff on.   I have an iMac.   I also have the time capsules from the airport.  the woman is set up with time machine, it sends data via wifi to the time capsule. It is very good.  The mine records at the same Time capsule airport wireless.

ME, I would use one different wifi router other than the airport on another network device I have, however, the question is: is it possible that I can keep the wifi for the operation of the Apple device and connect my computer via ethernet to the device for the back upward only, using the capsule on the imac.

I think I can, but I don't want to screw up the wireless network.

You can use both ethernet and wireless at the same time... but it becomes complicated with the gateway router and DNS values.

Secondary wireless router should use another address LAN IP for the TC, so you can separate the two networks.

This could lead to further questions about the network although because you must plug a router into the other I presume... unless you are completely isolate the TC from the internet or if you have in fact two internet connections.

    Give me the real details.

What is the second router and IP is running?

How is the installation of TC and what IP is running?

    Screenshots that make it easier.

I did a write up with screenshots here, which will give you the basics.

  • ICan I use Time Capsule in my Airport extreme to save files Ihave on my windows7 computer?

How can I configure my Airport extreme, time capsule 3 to use the portion of the time capsule for the backup of my Sony VAIO computer?

You can back up a windows computer to Time Capsule but I do not recommend.

Any backup software that can use target network should work.

Macrium Reflect is the one I use, I know the Time Capsule works.

Time line of engineering is a concept similar to Time Machine for PC... It's more that I want to make, but it doesn't seem to be a free version... How good or bad or I do not know what limits.

Internal backup software MS is generally useless... at least up to win 8.1 10.

NOTE... A USB connected to the laptop computer and formatted NTFS native is far superior to backup to TC which is formatted HFS + (illegible for windows) which is networked that the SMB protocol and treaded as NT server with all its limitations with FAT32.

Like many things you answer the question you... Yes. If you have... N °

  • Best way to put up the time Capsule as back-up only?

There seems to be a lot of discussion on this issue, but I can't seem to find one that tells me what I need to know...

    The goal

I'm trying to set up my Time Capsule to support my Mac Pro wireless, but do not use it as a router. My plan is to connect the TC to my router (which is in another room of Mac Pro) with an ethernet cable, and then for the first backup only connect the TC for the Mac Pro with a long ethernet cable. Once the first backup is complete I remove the cable Mac Pro and have the TC backup Mac Pro incrementally.

    The Situation

I tried setting up like this yesterday and it seemed to have worked, but returns support painfully slowly despite the ethernet connections. I don't know if the Mac seems to realize that it is connected to the TC with an ethernet cable - do I have to change any settings? It took 24 hours to save 200 GB and there is an another 400GO to go. He managed approximately 500 MB in the last 10 minutes. I have updated TC up as the router and the backup and I have never had any problems - I could easily back up the entire hard drive in a 24 hours period when it is connected with the ethernet before disconnecting and wireless backup. Could someone go through with me step by step how to configure this so I know that I just did?

    Thank you

    ID

P.S. The TC is in question is a 802.11n (2nd generation), 1 TB

As an update - if I turn off the WiFi, the connection to the TC is lost, then obviously the ethernet connection does not, and it's wireless backup, where the slow pace. Can anyone help?

  • Using time capsule secure airport on WAN

How can I access my Airport Time Capsule remotely?  What I need to 'allow the Setup program on Wan' or can I access it using a VPN and activation of the sharing feature?  If I WAN configuration is it secure?

"Allow installation over WAN" is necessary only if you want to use AirPort Utility on your Mac from a remote location to access and change the settings of the router from Apple. If you want only remote access to the data on the Time Capsule, you will not have to "allow the Setup program on Wan.

What is security, it is unlikely that someone else would know the public WAN IP address that your provider is provided for you, but even if they did, they would still have to enter a password for the device to enter the router configuration or access any other devices on your network.

Apple back to My Mac (BTMM) is by far the easiest game for users to implement with regard to access to the hard drive from a remote location via Internet Time Capsule. For a summary of this installer and other methods to connect to the Capsule remotely, see this excellent tip for expert forum user Tesserax:

  • Routers changed; How to reconnect time capsule

Changed to Earthlink DSL to AT & T u-verse fiber and time capsule airport is no longer back up; AT & T set new router; I want to use only the Time Machine backup. What I have to do a hard reset of time capsule? Is there an easier way to reconnect with my iMac? I have now connected time capsule directly in my iMac, but still no recognition. Thank you.

Whenever you change the modem or modem/router, or change service provider, the time Capsule airport must be reset to the default settings and then set it up again to work on the "new" network

A hard reset on the Time Capsule will achieve this goal. Then, make sure that the Ethernet cable connects from one of the four <>- on the Uverse router/modem LAN ports to the "O" on the Time Capsule WAN port.

Set up the time Capsule still... you can use the same name and password if you want, or set up a new name and password if you wish.

  • HOW THE AIRPORT TIME CAPSULE WIRELESS NETWORK IS PROTECTED?

I implemented the airport Time Capsule, using a DSL modem connected to the internet as its bridge.  MacBook Pro was used for initial set up by the bolt of lightning to Ethernet connector and then disconnected and works perfectly.  Now, I would like to use Wi - Fi for my Samsung phone not iOS.  On the Samsung wireless I connect to my home network using a password.  Well, I don't think that a password was never set.  How can I configure my wifi at home to establish a password?   I don't think that the modem settings should enter in solving this for me, but I'll add that the modem required a static IP address be entered for this connection when its router features have been disabled for the connection of bridge.

If the Time Capsule (TC) provides the wireless network, then you can secure it using AirPort Utility, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the TC and then, select change.
    • Select the wireless tab.
    • In the wireless security, select the type of security. I highly recommend that you choose: WPA2 Personal
    • Enter a password in the field password wireless. Enter the same password in the verify password.
    • Select Update.

  • How to restore time capsule to a single partition?

I have partitioned my 3T Time Capsule. 2T for storage and 1 t for backup, but I need to restore in a single volume. Someone knows how to do this?

    How did you score it?

There are no tools to partition a drive of TC.

So I suspect that you have partitioned a sparsebundle which is a virtual disk used by Time Machine.
