  I managed to find the location of downloaded programs C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe and went to its properties.

  I downloaded google chrome, I prefer IE as my search engine, but the only way I can access is by searching for it in Solution Explorer.  I have it open rather directly from the start with a page tile.  I did in XP very well, so why the sentence now?

  Thanks for the reply, Ronnie, but I've done everything as before.  When I try to open google search or google chrome, all I get is the start page all over again.  I tried to open the office and the same result.   It seems that Microsoft is forcing me to use IE?  I'd rather there is a tip on 8 window to allow me to do what I want.
