HP blocked product key?

A hard drive of the friends is dying so I replaced it. Before replacing the drive, I used a program called Produkey to display the product key and wrote down (the product code sticker is worn and unreadable). When I put the product key in it gave me an error, so I called Microsoft and they tell me that HP has BLOCKED the key. The laptop is out of warranty. What should I do now?

My friend has found its set of recovery discs, who re-installed the original product automatically key. Thanks anyway guys.

  • "Blocked product key" message after factory reset system

Since I updated to Windows 8.1, I had random BSOD errors. They were different from the errors and what they had in common was the NT kernel, which meant that I had to do a complete restore of the system. I have put this for awhile because it happened only once at startup, then the system is stable. Today I finally had the time to do and I was prepared for some annoying problems but not like that.

At first, I did a system reset which now seems very useless for me because it only retains the Windows settings and more like reinstalling Windows to do a full format. Unfortunately it gave me this error message. I searched online and some suggestions made to make a complete and all factory restore, knowing that it would solve nothing I moved and you did. Suffice to say it didn't work as I knew that he would not but I thought I'd better get all "did you do X procedure?" before asking for help to avoid delays in starting this sorted correctly.

Now I'm sitting here typing this out with the error message always insisting on the fact that my product key is invalid / blocked and as it took me a while to back up my files I will have to wait until tomorrow to contact HP support. Someone at - he found a complete solution to this or discovered why their key is blocked after a reinstall? If it is a new anti-piracy measure that went wrong so I'll be even more upset than I already am.

To add to the trouble I have specifically excluded to install Norton yet found sitting here on my laptop at the first start. I also had a problem with WiFi really stupid where he would not stay connected for more than a half second up until I connected via LAN and updated the driver. Excellent software! What happens if I had no network cable? Why did the pilot WiFi broken out of the box?

A few additional bits of information. The laptop is under warranty. I only got it in August and it has no DVD drive, so I had to rely on HP Recovery Manager to use the recovery partition.

Apology. I forgot this post! Yes, I solved the problem, but it was not easy nor quick. The tl; Dr version is that HP has allowed me to buy a new key of Windows and then they sent me a check to cover the cost. If you are interested in a longer version, then read on. I would also add that my laptop was still under warranty at the time where it all happened.

For some reason the laptop BIOS (where is stored the factory key) any had lost Setup sort key. I guess that happened during a many updates of BIOS HP sent but that makes no difference. What happened then is that I had to send screenshots of the error message Windows gave me to HP showing what Windows told me (that the key was not valid etc) and wait for HP to decide on a course of action.

Many of these e-mails took days to get a response which was pretty frustrating given that Windows would remember every 3 hours that I didn't have a valid key. The end result is that count give enough evidence HP leave of me to go out and buy a new Windows key, and then send by e-mail a copy of the invoice for a refund. Given the slow HP had to get to this point, that is so not surprising it took them more than a month to send me money to cover what I paid. This figure includes two weeks after I did what they asked and nothing happened, but after the ring, I was told that he had not crossed for "any reason" that lead to another delay of two weeks before I finally got the payment.

I realize that the question itself was not a typical scenario and I am happy with the end result but the time it took to get there (problem started a few days before the new year of 2014 and was resolved around March 2014) was ridiculous and seriously made me hesitant to go close to HP in the future.

Most probably you bought somewhere for a price that was too good to be true, and you have been sold a MSDN version which is not for resale.

  • This copy of Windows is not genuine (blocked product key)

Today, I turned on my PC to be met a popup telling me that my copy of Windows wasn't authentic, which is quite surprising that I bought my copy from an authorized retailer (mrhightech.com) for more than a year. That being said, I think I know where the root of the number fixed. A few months ago my hard drive has not quite spectacular, forcing me to buy a new one. Not thinking at the time, I have reinstalled my copy of Windows on a new HARD drive. I'm guessing it's this question rearing its head as some controls are in place think that the product key is used on a new machine. Is it possible to sort this issue without having to buy a new product key? I'm more than happy to provide all the information necessary to sort that payment for a new product key are somethnig, I really can't afford right now.

  • Pavilion G6: Need to return to Win7 - Microsoft says that HP blocked my product key

The title really says it all. My system was supposed to be compatible with Win10, and to a large part it was, however due to a mistake made by amd gpu drivers they are out for my model of gpu are not compatible with my model of gpu...

So I need to go back to Windows 7. However due to SOME kind of error I cannot use the option to come back normal and will likely have to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch. This means that I must write it according to technicians of Microsoft's response office. Re-record however is not possible, since the product key is now blocked according to them.

What should I do? How to bring back Windows7?

PS: more amazing is the fact that I DON'T seem to have all the files and folders necessary for the downgrade. Windows.old, Windows. ~ BT, Windows. ~ WS, are all present and take up to 30 GB of space.

The relocation proposed by Ms. Techs would also remove all programs and files personal-a fact they suggest how to re-install it, otherwise using recovery discs? Personal files can be saved to an external source first.

I don't know exactly why they are allowing to assume that your license key is blocked, but do a system recovery should solve that.

  • Windows 7 product key blocked - not genuine notice

My T420 is 3 years old and all of a sudden yesterday I received the notice and black screen saying "this copy of Windows is not genuine". And nag screens on it about every half hour (and annoyingly at startup).

I tried several fixes online, including the re - enter the product key. When I do this I get the error 0XC004F063. There is no place to contact Microsoft for a replacement key, it says to contact Lenovo.

I talked to Lenovo support this morning and told me I might need to reinstall Windows, and they were mailing - me to restore disks. He checked and said with this error code that I had to call Microsoft.

I called MS and we checked the product key... it's blocked. I gave her my product ID and which is also blocked. He said to come back to Lenovo.

Lenovo doesn't know anything about. Or what to do about it. The woman was told she had someone call this morning with something similar, if it was Windows 8. She checked and several other people support had similar appeals this morning. She also said that I would probably have to reinstall Windows. I asked if she would have never had this before and she said no. I asked if she knew other people having these calls before and she didn't say that she didn't know. I asked that if it seemed suspicious that all of a sudden some people had this problem. It seems that Lenovo blocked a series of product keys. It was covered on if she was really out of hand and said the Commissioner knew it and they would look inside. When I asked if they would contact me if they found anything, she said that this does not work like that. They you me sending restore disks and I am for the reminder Friday to see if someone knows something.

In the meantime, here is my log Genuine Ms. It seems correct to my untrained eye... does anyone have any ideas or know of others, especially in the last 24 hours?

  • My product key has been blocked... why?

Yesterday, I installed Windows 7 (32 bit) in a Machine virtual VirtualBox; but the machine has got corrupted. so I reinstall Windows 7 again, today. I couldn't enter my product key, so I did the "slmgr.vbs-ipk PRODUCT KEY' then"slmgr /ato"(without the quotes) and moments later a message came up saying that"the activation server determined that the specified product key has been blocked."

This is a legal copy of Windows 7 purchased at Christmas 2009. (which pisses me because I don't not pirate it.)

That's why I love Apple; NO product key of worry. (But I need Windows 7 for Win programs only.)

I see a lawsuit resulting from this problem by conducting a LEGAL copy of same.

    Try again by phone:

    Activate Windows 7 manually:
    1. click on start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    2. press enter on your keyboard

    3. Select your country.
    4. Select the telephone activation option and brace yourself for a real person.

    EDIT: Additional information

    Things to watch for.

Recently reported several cases of blocked MSDN keys packed with the media looking legitimate. I can not stress enough to save your packaging, media and reception, if you buy software such as this to appeal to the Bank, you bought it and report it to www.microsoft.com/piracy

If you bought a key, with or without DVD or packaging of EBAY, or any other person or seller and this could be a MSDN key because your key has been blocked you can check a few things yourself, if you have received your key with the physical product go to www.microsoft.com/howtotell and check your product, however some counterfeit software are thus convince you may not be able to identify it as such.

To check your PID press the key to victory and the pause at the same time, or system opened via the Control Panel, scroll to the activation section and properties related to computing PID will look something like this 12345-067-1234567-54321, the part that you are interested in is the section to three digits, if it corresponds or is included in one or two digits for the examples below You probably have a MSDN key.

065, 066, 067 for Ultimate, box 220 for Pro and the 230, 231 area of award, there are probably others, but they should be close to those that are displayed

If you have a similar PID, or your key is blocked and you want the confirmation message, a new thread with a report from the MGADIAG tool, download and run the tool, click on copy and paste it in a new post here and Darin Smith of MS can check your key for you. NEVER send your keys, the report will be sufficient.
