HP Compaq D220 mobo POST, just beep codes...

Well, it's really frusturating. I thought that I would have figured this out now. I turn on the motherboard, and I get 5 short beeps, a pause, then 5 more and so on...

I tried Googling the model mobo (Lite-on NR138) and there is no record anywhere, I know it's old, but even the HP Compaq D220 page is void of any useful information. No specification page. And the 'upgrade and migration' page is a dead link.

It would help me a lot to know what the beep codes mean, but it would be useful also to know if BIOS this motherboard only recognises
some steppings, because I already tried 3 different processors. Two of them with B0 stepping and a C1 stepping.

The first CPU I tried was SL68Q (1.8 Ghz, 512 K, 400 Mhz) there were 5 beeps.
Then I tried SL6LC, with c1 stepping (2.0 Ghz, 128 K, 400 Mhz) it did not work at all, I don't even have the beep codes. (Not surprising, I think it's Fried).
Finally, I tried SL66Q which is identical to the first (1.8 Ghz, 512 K, 400 Mhz) it has also resulted in 5 beeps.

And Yes, I have excluded from the RAM, I tried 2 DIMM different (the two work in other systems). So I'm convinced it's a CPU problem.
Any comments would be appreciated, especially if you have this mobo and have updated the CPU.

ERICO, thanks for the suggestions.

Problem solved!

The RAM card was loose on one end, and after pressing it with all my strength, click on it. I was sure that it was not the RAM, because I had tried several cards, different slot machines even (but they never wanted to click). In this particular mobo slots are all that I've seen the difference. The grooves are short, so the modules look like they are sitting on the top of the Golden Groove contacts. It takes a lot of strength to their seat correctly.

That this should be a lesson for me and others, that it is always a good idea to triple- check each strip memory and be very sure that they are not stirring, or tilted. The tabs on each side must click by themselves.

The Council is an American Megatrends Inc. Model [FRIEND] NR-138. (No Fujitsu, or Lite-On). It is brand HP, but has an AMI BIOS, not Phoenix / Award. It recognizes the processors that I tested previously. He took AGP, Audio and LAN. The chipset is Intel 845GV.

So in summary, five 5 short beeps of this Council is equal to "RAM not detected."

Hello FatherDal, it's really good news. If you have determined that your system has at least one memory defective Strip, and you want to replace the defective module, you can consider replacing all the memory modules and purchase of some additional memory that can increase the performance of your system.

Here is the link to the specifications for your system. It shows that your system shipped with 2 GB of memory system.

It also shows the system supports up to 4 GB of memory system and your system shipped with Vista x 86 (32 bit).

All 32-bit operating systems can only recognize up to 3.25 GB to 3.5 GB of memory. The x 64 bit version can recognize 4 GBs whole memory system.

I would say that the upgrade of your system memory to 4 GB into 4 X 1 GB modules. Even if your current operating system would recognize the 4 GBs set of system memory, you should see a performance increase with additional memory.

Here is the memory critical link where you can buy compatible memory for your Compaq system.

  • Compaq Presario SR2010NX beep code error starting: longbeeppausecontinuinglongbeepspausebetweeneach

Hello.  My Compaq Presario Desktop PC SR2010NX of 2006 began just not start.  It gives me a sound code of long beeps that accompany pause after each beep and continue indefinitely.  I have tried convenience cheques, and it looks as if it was the 'memory '.  My question, FEI's memory, what cards are hardware compatible with my PC.  I had a breakdown.    to install a new set of 2 GB cards in July - and I had technicians immediately reinstall my old 2 cards (issued factory) replacement cards they have advised me to buy are not compatible, and when I went to pick up my computer, the computer would not start.  I have askede to reinstall my old cards and the computer booted suceesfully, and I left the store!  I am sure that I do not know what new products could be compatible with my old PC.  I thhink 4 GB is too myuch for my computer, and he couldn't get half that - but what brand should be like new hardwrae?  I wasn't expecting my old cards fail when they were resettled - three months since the change of memory attempt - thre months they started normally.  They have been re-hurriedly harnessed and dismissed the case, and then I left the store.  (The tech threatedned me with fear of "motherboard failure", which just made get the computer and leave immediately.  The old cards cannot have been relocated safely.  I'm taking it - but I will not be pushed around.  Of course - as old as mine PC would gradually motherboard failure.  Until it fails.  It was the memory card, but what woud cards my PC take that would be accepted as new hardware and allow my PC to boot up normally, if it is the cards and not yet the motherboard?

I have now read the post with indicator on the upgrade memory.  It was very useful, and I wrote notes for the Presario.

It says, maximusmis 2 GB to 1 GB cards/no stamped with the form of the data of motherboard page.

Thank you.  My Compaq desktop computer has grown on me.  I got Vista bfore and I didn't know what I think.  If it can be repaired, I think 8 years (purchase date 4 November 2006) were fun for the low-end model.  It was a good choice, and I have never regretted buying at what cost.  It was better than expected.

I haven't used my Compaq Presario continually over the past eight years - that's why it lasted so long!  Dud ut do work, however.  I had retirement is put online last year

I liked HP Photosmart first 6.5 photo editing.  I liked Wordpad.  Mechanically, it was scientifically.  The material began to go when the built-in CD/DVD internal drive has failed.  I bought and had a replacement (DVD player (cd) internal HP) installed in July 2014.

Another point, when the original memory card 512 MB on factory 2 cards have been resettled, he was press-technicians to get the computer to boot - so the computer's case has been closed.   (I took the PC on their part awqay as fast it was closed upward).  I thought safe in maintaining clips?  Maybe not securely harnessed.  Could also be from the old factory of 512 memory cards in each clip spare wedge - to alternate which card and which support clip.  I have not tried this or re-cutting to the place of repair.  (I do not have any technical installation and not have ny contact danger here - I do not touch the computer).  It is the matter of repair - these people in a hurry, they sell - they tell you something will work, they overtest, they overdiagnose - they push you autour-yyou never recover your computer to use as is - it is disturbing to go, if you are not a consumer savvy or technical.

    Hello @lliil,

I read what you posted and it seems that you have a hardware problem with your computer. The only thing I can do for you is to provide you with the HP support document: BIOS Beep Codes, which will help you to correctly identify what's wrong with your computer. Given the age of the computer apart from this if you want to know if it can be fixed, I recommend do you get into a local computer repair shop and let them take a look.

I hope I helped. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

    Hello

In most cases the BIOS beeps are the result of the problem of the motherboard.
It is hard to say what role could be affected on the motherboard.
But here is the page that provides some information on the BIOS beep codes:
    http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

You don't have many options; what you can do is to test/remove the RAM.
Maybe that RAM is defective otherwise it mother associated s pass and in this case the motherboard needs to be replaced.

  • Z240 SFF Workstation: Z240 SFF beep Code 3.3 (graphics)

    Greetings,

We bought the Dells years but has recently begun to give HP a glance. The first unit I received just stopped working during testing of deployment and gives me 3 long beeps (red LED) with 3 short beeps (white LED). According to the manual, this translates, "the on-board controller exceeded waiting for BIOS return the initialization of graphics. I couldn't find the specific troubleshooting steps for this error I did what follows based on the tests that I did:

    -Cleared CMOS

The system only would not start after that application of the BIOS settings using the Configuration BIOS HP utility so maybe something went wrong there. That said, I applied the settings with this tool several times before on the same system without problem, but thought it was worth a start. Here is my config file:

    BIOSConfig 1.0
    Legacy startup options
    Disable
    * Select
    Legacy boot order

    HDD:SATA:1

    UEFI boot options
    * Disable
    Enable
Configure legacy support and secure start
    * Legacy Support enable and Secure Boot Disable
Disable legacy support and Secure Boot Enable
Disable legacy support and Secure Boot Disable

-Exchanged cards (Nvidia Quado K420) video with a known good card. We bought two units to test if I had an identical system to Exchange.

    -Shared memory.

    -Reinstall any cables.

Any ideas on what I should try before you send it again?

Last update 08/08: another IT unit in our Organization has reported the same beep code with one of the Z240s they just bought. For them, the BIOS has refused to save all the settings and could not start later.

    Last update 08/09:

Another machine died today. Same case, technicians were simply trying to configure the BIOS settings. Another detail is that these have been shipped with BIOS version 01.24. I recommend our technicians that they update to version 01.27 for now, but the notes do not mention a specific fix for what we see. I hope someone from HP can jump in here soon...

    Product no.: L8T14AV

For all those who could fall on this thread... I managed to reproduce the problem by going to Configuration of Boot Secure and uncheck the box 'Key activate MS UEFI CA'. After talking with the help of HP, it was determined that we should not be in contact with this option at all. This option is intended for graphics cards configured for backup device from Microsoft.

In addition, there is a bug in the BIOS version 01.24 which prevents the Clear CMOS button to work correctly, so there is no recourse for a person who commits the mistake of setting the option above. HP will provide an update in revision 01.28 to stop people from shooting itself in the foot. It is recommended to update the systems at 01.27 for now.

Finally, we do not have an answer to what happened to systems that could not save changes to BIOS and subsequently on faileed to start. I will update this thread if it becomes something more than an anomaly.

  • Tecra S1 does not start-> beep code appears

    Hello

I have a problem with my Toshiba Tecra S1.
It won't start, just beep like this:
    -Two shorts and a long
-So, three short films and and etc.

I can't find out what BIOS and the significance of these beeps.

As far as I know, it's an Insyde BIOS on the Tecra S1.
But I thought you wanted to contact the Toshiba service provider?
Believe me, the BIOS beep code can be read by a technician with a lot more experience as a common user.
Eventually, you'll be able to read but you don t know what the code means.
The meaning of the code differs from BIOS and laptop model
I don t see other than by contacting the guys services

  • Satellite 3000-514 does not start - 1-1-1-1 beep code appears

    Overview

My Toshiba Satellite 3000 514 starts each others time and gives me the following beep code: 1-1-1-1 (4 short beeps) and a black screen.

Does anyone know what this means?
This happens roughly every second time I try to start the PC. After l ' works again, it especially works again.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Hello

The beep code appears especially if the POSITION cannot be passed correctly.
If the problem is detected until the BIOS initialize the video card and the code cannot be displayed on the screen of the BIOS will play several beeps.
Each BIOS supports the meanings of the own beep codes. For example BIOS Toshiba beep code is not the same thing as "beep code" Phoenix BIOS.

To my knowledge the Sat 3000 using Phoenix BIOS. In this case, you can try to search in the internet for a description of the code.
    I found this site:
    BIOS beep codes

But generally cannot solve this anomaly just average and I would recommend contact a technician with huge experience computer laptop.

  • Satellite A200 - beep code unknown

    Hey guys,.

Got an A200 m01 (I think) of 2008, who last night decided to no boot. He makes before the BIOS screen, but when at Windows startup, the screen turns off and beeps continuous (and infinite) (kind of pulse). Now, I can't find anything on Insyde BIOS, but the common continuous beep is a RAM error. I was hoping that this would be the case (although I realize posting is completed before the BIOS splash screen is displayed and so I am at a loss as to what she is ACATUALLY), but to remove a RAM module the system only gives me a BIOS beep code! What the hell!

And no amount of Googling got me closer to resolve this. I'm a poor student, so I can't afford to bring to a repairer of computer for them to charge me $80 to say its dead, so if anyone has any information I would be very grateful!

    Thank you

    Taylor

    Hey Taylor,

I think the problem is that only an authorized service provider knows the exact beep codes and their reasons so that you can t find much in the Internet.

Of course such a problem is a little annoying but you re right, theoretically it could be a RAM problem. As I understand, a single module of RAM is installed on your computer, right?
Have you already tested the module in a different RAM slot? Theoretically the slot memory could be faulty also.

In addition you can test the RAM itself module using software special test than Memtest86. It s freeware tools that you can find with Google. Simply create a bootable disc and boot of it. The test will start but it can take up to an hour or more until he finished s.

Maybe Memtest86 will find something but let's wait what happens if comments would be great. :)

  • Beep codes Equium M50-192

    Hello

I have a laptop Equium M50-192, who decided to stop working.

I get 4 short beeps when I turn it on. The power led lights and fans start but the screen does nothing.

Where can I find beep codes mean?

    Thank you
    Dan

    Hello

It's not easy to say what could be wrong. Beep codes usually appear because the computer MESSAGE fails.
If the Unit falls down the POST (Power on self test) beep code indicates which is originally the laptop does not pass the POST.
The problem is that the bee codes are not standard and each BIOS provides different meanings of postcodes!

As far as I know your device was shipped with Phoenix BIOS if you can try to google a bit for the Phoenix BIOS post codes.

However, for most hardware failure is responsible for these problems. You can try to check the functionality of memory modules.
Remove the simple modules and check if some of the memory fails.

  • Question about BIOS beep codes

Difficulty locating the BIOS beep codes... can anyone help? I get 3-3-1...

    Hello

I found a list of some BIOS beep codes but to be honest I m do not know if this can help you:
    [BIOS beep codes: http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm]
    ]
The problem is that the BIOS beep codes are different and not all BIOS provides the meaning of the code.

In my opinion only the authorized service provider can help you know what this code means.

Why such a code beep appear?
Well, the BIOS beep code if the POST (Power On Self Test) fails.
Most of the Power On Self Test impossible to successfully because of the failure of hardware; for example, motherboard problem.

  • P50/P70 BIOS beep codes

Does anyone have the BIOS beep codes for the P50/P70 Thinkpads? Almost everytime I start mine beeps at me.

3 short beeps, pause, 1 beep, pause, 1 beep, pause, 3 short beeps.

I called tech support and they wanted me to uninstall the RAM I added after I got the system, or they want to send me the computer to replace the RAM and the system. I do not think that those who are the problem, however. After he gets a beep, it loads well every time. Lenovo solutions Centre zero errors with my system. No problem with processor, chipset and memory. Windows recognizes all 32GB of my RAM when it loads as well.

Any ideas? I'm disinclined to send my system back because otherwise it usually seems to work OK.

A 3-1-1-3 beep code heard at the start after change of memory reserved Thunderbolt from 1 GB to 2 GB in the Setup of the BIOS indicates a lack of PCI memory resources. After the beep, BIOS allows you to adjust the resource memory PCI allocated to love at first sight, then automatically restarts the system.

Please note that Lenovo recommends running a 64-bit instead of 32-bit Windows operating system when you use the Thunderbolt of 2 GB of memory reserved parameter.

In the setting of several screens or other devices to the Garland of Thunderbolt, Lenovo recommends the use of the resource of memory of 2 GB to the BIOS Setup and deal with the 3-1-1-3 model beep to restart the computer after changing the configuration of the BIOS as successful confirmation of change the BIOS POST.

When you attach a monitor or a couple of other devices, Lenovo recommends the use of the resource of memory of 1 GB in BIOS Setup.

    Hello.

Today, I had this same problem with a d220 MT (in fact, I found this entry when you seek a solution ), and the fix was so simple it was embarrassing. The driver download sp25326.exe install just the installer. After you run it, you must go to c:\swsetup\sp25326 and run setup.exe. After that, your card should work. at least it worked for me.

    I hope this helps.

  • Comouter to school does not start sometimes beep codes wirh.

Probably not the right section *.

I use a Lenovo Thinkcentre spare part in my class 1st period to recharge my phone. Sometimes he gives a short beep, or 5 short beeps and no video. Fan runs at full speed when he does this, and I don't know what is the model, but it has a sticker with MT - M and S/N codes. What is going on? Thank you! It works under XP.

    http://bit.LY/1sXsDMs

Then, you can find the manual of Lenovo ThinkCentre and look at the section describing the sound and other codes troubleshooting information.  Other search results link to other places that might give you some clues.

During the POST (Power On Self Test), beep codes usually indicate some kind of a hardware problem - as a loose connection, failing RAM or video subsystem, incorrect CMOS configuration, etc.

On most systems, a short beep at startup is usually a good sign that the MESSAGE transmitted.  Several beeps (and sometimes no beep) are usually a sign that something is wrong.

  • Beep codes IPMMB-FM

I just bought a new computer:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03649846

    Motherboard: IPMMB-FM

video card: AMD Radeon HD 8470 1 GB of DDR3 memory

When I got the computer I replaced the graphics card AMD with a nVidia GTX660 and also changed the power supply for an Antec 650 Watt because of the increased workload of the video card.  Then I reset the CMOS using the jumper and he gave me the beep codes (8 simple tones) that I did not understand. The computer comes with no manual indicating the beep codes, or I couldn't find any online.

I went and then replacing the AMD Radeon HD 8470 and it works again.  So the question is:

    (1) where can I find beep codes for this motherboard?

    (2) in addition, it seems that he does not like his graphics card configuration to change?
