HP Compaq DC7800p Convertible: Fan never works at high speed

Well Hello hp. My question is that I have the hp compaq dc7800p with intel q35 chipset. I also have the intel core 2 duo e6750, who comes to 66 without high-speed fan spining. I checked, the site of intel, that it is said that Tcase is 72 C I also have the problem with the chipset, there too big temperatures when you play. It goes up to 80 C. What I would do. Should I change cpu fan or don't start high speed at 70 ° C and for the chipset how cool up to at least 60 C, I have the normal aluminum without cooler chipset. I play the games are battlefield 3 and 4 and yesterday my pc freezes, and when I rebooted funs went at full speed, but nothing showed on the screen for 5 minutes, is now well, fortunately, but I all wory to much.

Temperatures look ok so far.

-In addition to being very energy efficient - Core2Duo processors have built-in thermal protection.

If ever they come to high temperature, the frequency is decreased. If temperatures reach critical CPU turns off.

Chipsets get usually a little hot under load.

80 ° C is still about 25 degrees below criticism.

What graphics card you have?

As far as I know, feeding in these machines has only about 360 watts, which is not enough for some high power graphics cards. It is most likely the reason why your PC freezes. Video games cards consume not only a few watts, they also generate a huge amount of heat under load.

Anyway, there are two things you can do:

First, go to the HP Support and get the dc 7800 manual.

Uninstall the CPU cooler and apply new thermal paste (don't forget to clean the old one).

Then, increase the speed of the fan slowed down in BIOS F10 for better air circulation.

  • OS for HP Compaq dc7800p Convertible Minitowers boards

    Gentlemen (and the occasional Lady).

I just bought a minitour Convertible HP Compaq dc7800p computer on the cheap.

From what I see, it seems almost not modified from its original configuration. It has an Intel Core Duo E6550 2.33 GHz processor, 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, a 80 gig HARD drive and DVD read/write.

HARD drive appears to have already disappeared completely - not even a left system recovery partition - so, no OS.

I ran HP Insight Diagnostics on it and everything passed the comprehensive test.

Now that I am fairly confident that it will work properly, I need to choose an operating system. It comes with Vista Business and I can get a replacement from HP for $11.00 drive. I don't know what service packs, where applicable, the hot spare. This would be a factor because I am limited to 56 k modem and these service packs would take a loooong time to download. But, all things being equal, I'd rather have Windows 7 Premium. The problem is that all things are not equal! A copy of Windows 7 is around $90,00 of distributors such as Tiger Direct.

I'm accustomed to Windows XP and have never used later versions of Windows. It is popular wisdom that Win 7 is greater than Vista in many ways, but it is $ 79.00?

I want this computer to take over the online activities of my XP computer because XP is more dangerous. I'll keep my XP machine and put any contact with the outside world when I'm pretty confident with a new OS. The HP machine will not be called to lift heavy objects - but that could change over time, as the HP is easy to upgrade.

Given the description of my situation, it would be more prudent to get Vista Business on Win 7?

Extended support for Vista is scheduled for completion in 2017, where I would then face the same problem that I have now with XP and I would find myself looking for a new OS once again. Win 7 will be supported until 2020. In the coming years a new version of Windows will be better than Win 7 to the point where I don't want to change operating system before 2020? This HP computer will be obsolete before then as to makes it unusable?

There are a lot of these questions without reply. The essential is that I'm a good sobbing market and I eventually get more for my money on a copy of $11,00 of Vista or $90.00 for Win 7?

Beyond that, I have other questions, but I'll fix it in another post. I went too long in this one!

    Hello:

I have a dc7800 CMT (E8300 processor) that I bought for my wife and upgraded to W7 because I got an upgrade to W7 pro I used no license.  I installed 8 GB of PC2-6400 memory and use a graphics Radeon HD 6570.

I have for all of Vista Business 64 bit recovery disc to restore the original operating system should I decide to donate or resell the PC some days.

I had the other dc7800 CMT (processor E6850) for my mother and order the recovery disks Vista Business 32 bit for it.

Now, you can have a choice of the floppies to install Vista Business 32 or 64-bit.

The set of recovery disks you get should have included SP1 (mine do).

Then you will just need to DL SP2.

It was the first thing I did once Vista was installed before that I made another anytbing to download the Setup file of Vista SP2 Standalone directly from Microsoft.

If you do not ever plan on installing more than 4 GB memory, then the set of 32-bit recovery diskettes will suffice.

I put 4 GB of memory in the PC of my mother because I had 4 x 1 GB of PC2-6400 memory, laying around.

Windows 7 is a better operating system.  I call it "Vista that works."

But really the main differences are:

1 Vista seems to use more memory to run than W7, so more memory, you can throw to Vista better it works.

    2. the disk defragment tool seems to take forever to work.

    3. a few other minor quirks which I was able to use a few settings to make it better.

I have used many of the settings on the link below and my mother PC works fine on Vista Business 32 bit.

    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/make-Windows-startup-run-Shutdown-faster

I have disabled Vista Disk Defragmenter and use free Auslogics Disk Defragmenter that works just great.

If I don't have a W7 license for use, I would have been perfectly happy under Vista Business dc7800 of my wife.

I run Vista Business on an old notebook nc6400 and it works very well on that too.

Then... IMO, I have just spend the $11.00 and go with Vista. If you like it, then you have saved $ 90 million.  If you have not, you buy W7, and you may have professional Vista recovery discs use one day as I want.

A few final thoughts on the PC in general...

    1. make sure emulation sata in the BIOS storage section is set for RAID and IDE not.  RAID will be performing hard drive because it can take advantage of the native command queuing in RAID mode and it cannot in IDE mode.

Many of the dc7800 are used in enterprise environments and have been downgraded to XP Pro. I would not be surprised if a large number of defined system IDE controller administrators when they set up their corporate images, because if they understand not drivers SATA RAID/AHCI necessary necessary in their corporate images for this and later models, their image it not install if the BIOS is set to RAID mode.

It is the only native command Queuing does.

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_Command_Queuing

    2. set the boot order to boot from the hard drive first.  Who's going to shave a fraction of a second startup time.

You can always press the F9 key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to boot from another device.

  • Lenovo Z500 fan only runs on high speed

    Hello.

Recently, I removed the lid of my laptop to clean my fan and to change the thermal paste on the proc and video. But when I replaced everything back and booted up the laptop, my fan only works on speed continuously. No rattling, it works just like my proc is very responsible, but no hot wind, cold. I checked the temperature in the Speedfan program and everything seems to be ok, but I noticed that there is no fan detected. Same thing, I saw in Everest. I tried to watch BIOS, but there is nothing in the fan or temperature associated (I change my bios there is a moment so my F1 - F12 keys would swap with FN keys). And also, in the management of energy, I tried to remove the dust, but just ran fan as it removes dust every time, none of the changes, same high speed. I tried Driver Pack Solution, no results on the fan. Everything went very well before I cleaned it, I was just trying to make my computer train less.

Please help me, thanks in advance.

Alright, removed the lid once more and discovered that the fan wires melted because of the heat the tubes that will proc and the video, so the wire that controls the speed of the fan has been disconnected. Anyway, case closed, just need a new fan, will not appear anywhere it's for sale, but that is another issue for another day.

  • Fans always operate at high speed after power failure

HP Pavilion Slimline S5780T - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

After a power failure a night or more recent, our Pavilion Slimline case fan and CPU fan have both run at high speed all the time, starting from the system. The level of noise is intolerable.

I opened and cleaned all the dust from the inside of the case, including the removal of the heatsink from the CPU. Everything is clean.

I ran the following HP Vision diagnostic, test the system, including fans. During the test of fan, the fans ran at 100%, then fell to the former level normal, quiet, then ramp back up to 100%. So says HP fans diagnostic tests are OK when there is always a problem. And it is possible for them to run at slow, normal speed.

I installed the free SpeedFan utility, but there is not place to adjust the fan speed manually.

How can I find the problem and the fans run at normal speed, as they did before the power failure? Everything that controls the speed of the CPU fan and the fan is broken.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Stephen - Myrtle Beach, SC

Strange things happen when power flucuations or failures occur.  Most probably the motherboard has been damaged by the PPE and that is normally not as repairable by a DIY.  If you could find a newer BIOS, that to solve the problem.  Since there can be no more recent BIOS, try to remove the battery from the motherboard for the night and then put the file in and reset the BIOS to see if that helps the default value.  Otherwise, it might be repairable.

This tool manages the cooling module and CPU.

    Hello

I think you use high hard who insist a lot on the CPU.
This causes higher heat dissipation and therefore the temperature drops to a higher level and this is why cooling modules run faster.

So in my opinion, everything is ok here; It s nothing unusual in the world of computing. the warm air must be removed, and so the fans run at a higher speed.

I think that the fans don't run faster if you use low performance applications. Right?

I have Flex 2-15 and suffered from the same problem. By trial and error, I found that (although not documented) a specific version of the TPFanControl (http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/tpfc.html) does not work with my laptop. Opt for the 0.62e version. It is a cool utility, has several conditions of default security in standard BIOS procedures if something is still wrong. Temperature to the fan speed mappings are user adjustible, so you must refine your laptop (default values are designed for Edge E520, so don't not necesserily ideal).

    Gentlemen.

I decided to first try the road at low prices and to order a recovery disc Vista professional instead of a copy of Win7 for my HP Compaq dc7800p CMT with Intel Core Duo E6550 2.33 GHz processor, 1 GB of DDR2 800 MHz RAM and HARD drive retail 80 GB sata.

  • Satellite A30 - fan still working

    Hello

My Satellite A33 (although the case said A30 my model number indicates otherwise), there are problems of overheating for some time now, the fan always runs at full speed. I'll have to raise the notebook so that the fan can get more air.

I'm not sure why this happens, is just needed a clean place (never did)?

I looks as if it has two fans, and it does not blow out as much air as the other or not at all. I don't know much because I moved new laptops, but I use it when traveling.

    Can you help?

    Thank you.

    Hello
You say you ' never played cleaning and this may be the reason for overheating (clogged cooling module). So, do the following:

    1. clean your computer with air well. If it does not help and your computer is out of warranty you can take it apart. Check then if it has 2 fans (I dunno if this model comes with 2 fans if it has 2 fans and them does not work replace it at all).
If you decide to dismount, step this www.irisvista.com link to remove the statement

I tried the settings in the properties "Toshiba Power Saver", but after changing anything that the fan starts working again in a few seconds, despite the ACPI temperature is 46 degrees Celsius only, not much higher. This fan of work is always very disturbing.

    Hello

The temperature is 46 degrees Celsius, only because the fan works properly. If the fan doesn't run the temperature climbs. I put t know how you use your device, but if you are working with programs of high performance fans should run because of high utilization of the processor and overheating problems. In addition if cooling method is set for maximum Performance the cooling fans work up.

Thanks for the graphics card. It seems that they should work, but I still think there may be a problem with the amouint of the power supplied to the card in the slot of the ISDR - x 16.

It would still be useful to measure the power supply to see if an upgrade PSU will fit. An upgrade to a 450W Corsair or OCZ PSU will be not much ofexpense. When you consider what you have in the PC at this time is minimal, that would make it useful. In any case, these are my thoughts on this subject.   , Of course, it's your choice.

    Hello:

For a video card, I recommend the AMD Radeon HD 6450 half-height card, which works perfectly with the 240W power supply in your PC.

Make sure that you get one that includes low profile brackets in the area.

Memory... you can install a maximum of 4 x 2 GB memory PC2-6400 for your model if you are running a 64-bit operating system.

I have used this brand in my dc7800 CMT.  I bought 2 games and maxed out.

  • Satellite A500 - fans never stops

    Hello

I did some experiments with methods of cooling of vista...

First of all, when I start my satellite A500, something like three minutes before the fan to start very quickly.
When I opened the Toshiba PC Health monitor, temperatures never exceed 40 ° C, but the fan runs at 70%
Then temperatures decline to something like 35 ° C, but the fan never cease!

It's exactly the same with the two methods of cooling of the vista power management or the difference is really subtle.

But a strange thing is when I change the method's cooling performance to economy of execution while the fan is running, then it stops! And it starts again only when the CPU start to become warmer. But again, it remains always under 40 ° C. I think that's not so hot... and the fan noise is annoying when I want to have quiet little.

So in my opinion, there is a problem.
If I could change the settings in the economy mode, I would reduce the speed of the fan and I would like to raise the temperature when the fan should start. And when the temperature decreases the fan should stop or slow down to become quieter...

Thank you for your attention and sorry for my bad English ^^

    Hello

You said that the fans run at 70%
This would mean that the cooling modules run with maximum performance, if the temperature remains at the lower level. and that means that the cooling system control module working properly.

Also you talk about the temperature of the CPU. But there are additional devices such as GPU and HDD that creates the heat dissipation.
This means that the internal temperature would be different from the temperature of the CPU... possiby is higher...
That could be one of the reasons why the cooling modules don't stop and run with lower performance.

However, you should check if your BIOS is up to date.
If the most recent version was released then it s recommended to update the BIOS.

    See you soon
