  • The purpose of doing a virus scan after Windows starts in safe mode?

I've heard some suggestions that, in certain circumstances, it is best to do a virus scan after Windows starts in safe mode. So I have two questions:

    (1) would what type of circumstances you perform a scan antivirus in safe mode?

    (2) what are the advantages or disadvantages?

I have found no reliable info that answers to these questions and would be grateful for any info, or even just a point in the right direction.

    Thank you!

    Hello

The advantage is that some process and services are not loaded in Mode without failure there is less chance
This malware can load and interfere with the process. The downside is the same if its best
to run the malware checks mode safe and then in Windows. Or run in Windows and as appropriate
difficult to remove malware is detected then run in Mode safe, then in Windows.

If you need search malware here's my recommendations - they will allow you to
scrutiny and the withdrawal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running
resident who can cause as many questions as the malware and may be more difficult to detect as the
    cause.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy
to detect malicious software often comes with a much harder to detect and remove the payload. Then
its best to be thorough than paying the high price later now too. Check with them to one
extreme overkill point and then run the cleaning only when you are sure that the system is clean.

It can be made repeatedly in Mode safe - F8 tap that you start, however, you must also run
the regular windows when you can.

  • Blue Screen of death - now cannot load Windows (even in safe mode)

Laptop last night (Satellite L500-19Z;) Win 7 64 bit) crashed while playing CIV4. Had a blue screen of death. before I had the chance to read one of the error messages about the computer restarted.

It loaded windows in SafeMode very well then and informed me that he had loaded OK the problem safe mode will be linked to some recently installed software and I should uninstall programs I had installed until it loads normally. As it was late last night I closed and thought I would sort the morning (with the benefit of hindsight it may have been a mistake...).

Today, when the computer tries to start, it tries a startup repair; Unfortunately it does not work every time and it says "Startup Repair tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem"

I looked at the paper it produces, but it passes all of the individual tests.

I can't access also advanced recovery options system & support, that appears in the Startup Repair dialog box as it requires that I be connected, which apparently I am not (probably the machine never got to the windows screen connection before attempting repair system). The error message reads "you must be logged to access system recovery options. If you encounter problems to connect, please contact your computer administrator for help. Please click OK to restart the computer. »

I had a go at the start in the advanced options (safe mode, safe mode with command etc., but the result is the same).

I also tried the repair of your computer to the screen option options advanced boot, but after the screen where it asks you to choose the language and keyboard, I get the same error of connection mentioned above.

Is it possible to repair or even run windows based hard drive recovery (do not have the DVD of recovery with me as I'm away from home for a few weeks) without connecting to windows? I expected here, but have not yet find a way to do it.

(there is no disc in the disc drive, no other devices connected to the laptop - I tried with power outlet and the battery and have not noticed differences)

    Thank you

  • Our Toshiba Inspiron will not start windows, even in safe mode. Help, please!

After the updates of this week, the system will not load anything.

    Hi Juliet,

Thanks for asking the question in the Microsoft Community forum.

From your description, I understand that after Windows Update, you can not load Windows.

To better understand the question, please answer the following questions:

    1. What is the version of the Windows operating system that is installed on your computer?

    Reference: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/help/which-version-of-the-windows-operating-system-am-i-running

    2. what happens when you try to load the system? You receive an error message?

    3. what application or anti-virus security suite is installed on your computer?

    4. you remember after installation of update, you are facing this problem?

Remove any external device connected to the computer without keyboard and mouse and then perform the methods.

If you are using Windows 7 and Windows Vista, follow the mentioned methods:

    Method 1:

If the computer does not start in safe mode, perform the last known good Configuration.

    Reference: http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/using-last-known-good-configuration

Note: Link above also applies to Windows Vista.

Question remains always use same method 2.

    Method 2:

Try to perform the Startup Repair and check.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/Startup-Repair

If you are using Windows XP, follow the mentioned methods:

    Method 1:

Perform the last known good configuration.

  • I can't get out of safe mode when starting, and can not run the Setup program from windows XP in safe mode.

I have a XP box that would only start in safe mode.  I needed to repair windows, so I started updating reinstall option but to reboot it says it cannot run in safe mode then it tries to boot into normal mode but crashes - which is what I am tring to solve.  Now I'm stuck because the computer is now making a loop and I'm stuck.  There is no available recovery console, it shows just the installation restart then goes into the shot.  If I try to launch safe mode, that it says cannot run update in safe mode then restarts in normal mode, which hangs then.  I'm stuck.  Boy the days where I wish I could just make the prompt C:\.  Thank you.

You can connect your problematic hard drive to another PC to copy your important data, using a device such as:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16812161002

    or

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16812119244

I'm still not 100% convinced that you boot from the CD. Your Dell has the option of F12 to select a boot real-time device (as soon as you turn on the PC)? Also, remember that you have to "press any key to boot from the CD" when you see this screen! Of course, during a reboot, you start from the hard drive.

Even if you did everything by the book, a repair installation could easily 'loop' as you describe. But as long as your hardware is healthy, a clean install is done.

  • Login - continuous scrolling - Windows, even in safe mode screen

I have a Sony Vaio with Win XP SP2 laptop. There was a virus attack, the virus simply scroll whole screen you, as if you press the arrow key down. I stop, then open a session in safe mode, ran Malwarebytes, found and removed 2 utilities passwordStealer and KeyLogger. The problem seemed to have disappeared. But now he is back on the screen Windows safemode login options. I can't select SafeMode / SafeMode with network / anything since the virus is the key of Basel permanently.

    Help, please!

I tried to boot with the rescue AVG disk / UBUNTU as well, but to no avail. The problem is, once AVG CD load and asks me to choose 1 of 7 options, when I try to press the arrow up / down to go to the option 'Scan', the virus is using the arrow key down.

Are you sure? Viruses are rare under Linux... It is even more unlikely that the same virus that has been written for Win XP to run in a Linux environment. I'm starting to think that you have some sort of hardware problem.

    !!! WARNING! Be careful here!
Have you tried to Disconnect completely all your hard disks via anti-static bracelet and boot from your CD Win XP Pro (do not REFORMAT). I think that you should be able to boot from your CD of Win XP to the point just before you have to select the media target. If booting from your CD of Win XP still causes your screen cursor keys act weird, you probably have a hardware problem.

    !!! WARNING!
When you disconnect a hard drive with an anti static band, you have TO put it and antistatic location on an antistatic surface.

I think the only option is to go to a technician to remove the HARD drive and sorting. Coz' with this kind of problem, I can not select anything on the screen.

Remove the hard drive and scanning with another computer are the best way to kill the virus, but you will need to get a proper equipment (band of anitstatic and bags) and find a friend or technician who is willing to risk infection.

  • Blue screen on startup of windows normal and safe mode

I am using Windows XP, this morning my computer froze and I used the button to turn it off.   At startup, I got a blue screen that says "a problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.  It's for me this blue screen with the same message for each option, including the mode without boot failure.  Anyone know anyway I can try to understand what is the problem?

    Anti virus is Mcafee

Blue screen started after a frost, and I used the power button to turn off.

I use a Dell XPS M1730 (laptop).  I don't have my windows with my disks.

I'm sure it's a virus because just before freeze Mcafee said it found and removed two Trojan horses, but I have no idea how to get rid of them with a blue screen to come whenever I try to turn on the computer.

  • ThinkPoint infected computer won't allow any mode of windows to start: safe mode, normal mode, etc. A black screen is all I get.

I have two computers. Those infected with Windowx XP Home Edition. All of a sudden (yesterday October 18, 2010) the ThinkPoint popup appeared. On my own computer, I looked for solutions and has been able to stop the service through the Task Manager. Then downloaded MalwareBytes. He scanned and detected 5 elements. He then opened a text window indicating that the 1 point might be deleted and needed to restart the computer. So, I followed the instructions on the window of MalwareBytes. But after reboot, a black screen. If he walks again and a black screen. F8 works but after I chooseany mode (safe mode, previous configuration, etc.) a black screen again. I looked for solutions and all assume them safe mode or any different normal windows mode, it works. My problem is that no boot option (same normal Windows) seems to work. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

I followed the instructions for Error 80070020 to start Windows in safe mode with internet access, but Windows Update does not open when you click on it in the box start the search.  Internet access is available and I can connect with other sites.  However, it starts when Windows is in normal mode, but that does not help me solve my problem

To decode 0 80070522 x. X 0 means that it is a hexadecimal number, 8 , error, the first 7 means it a windows error and the rest of the East of 20, the number, the Windows error.

To search for the error message we need to decimal format. Start the Calculator (Start - All Programs - Accessories - calculator) and choose the menu display - scientific, then the menu display - Hex. Enter 20 Menu display - decimal. It will say 32.

Start an command prompt (Start - All Programs - Accessories - command prompt) and type

    Hey ElizabethSlater,

Try to run a full scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that nothing is found.

Try also to install the latest drivers from your computer manufacturer's website. If you have difficulty to locate the website of your computer manufacturer or the drivers on their page, please provide your computer brand and model in your next reply. If you have built your computer you need visit the site of the manufacturer of each piece of hardware to get the latest driver.

Once the drivers have been installed, try to restart your computer, and then test to see if the same problem occurs.

    Hello

I'm not sure why I have to restart the inverter in order to access a safe mode on my computer if I am not wrong that all editions of Windows must start in safe mode when F8 is pressed before normal startup, I am unable to do exactly as I could in Windows 98, 98SE & XP Pro in Windows 7 Ultimate , you can ask to I connect external devices Yes but I remove them before you try any Safe Mode an assembled computer I don't brand solutions Pleasde help me

    Thank you

When you start in safe mode the system does not load the drivers installed. It is often used when you have a problem and seek to establish the cause. There are many variations allowing the user to select some services and some do not. If you select SafeMode your antivirus software does not load and you don't have an internet connection. If you want an internet connection in safe mode you select Safe mode with network.

Your friend can just say that you need not safe mode. Most of the time it's true, but there are times when you do not need it. You can get situations where the computer does not start in normal mode but will start in safe mode. In this situation, safe mode provides access to tools such as Event Viewer system and your system information file that allows you to search for the clues to the nature of the problem that prevents the computer from starting in normal mode.

  • Upgrade to windows 7 Home Premium to windows 8 in safe mode

Cumputer runs only in safe mode and I all ready have Windows 8 but I want to Wipe Factory Reset first or is it important

Setup Windows 8 should run in Normal Mode.

If Windows 7 is shipped with your computer, it would be better to do the factory reset or try to repair your installation and startup in Normal Mode.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box.
    2. Click Start, and then in the start option, check if the startup is checked.
    3. If it is checked, then please uncheck.
    4. then click general, select Normal startup.
    5. click on apply, then ok.
    6. the system prompts you to reboot, please reboot the system.
