HP DESKJET 3420
I got a new Acer laptop with Windows 7 64 bit
I want to install an older HP Deskjet 3420 printer but cannot find a driver
What should I do
Please go to: for step 1, select your operating system and click Next. Now step 2 click on driver - software product (1) installation , and then click more details and follow the instructions. Basically, you use the HP Desktop 3600 as another driver that is provided through Windows Update. It's just a basic driver - has not. Tags: Windows HP deskjet 3420 printer range - cannot find the drivers? I just "new" HP DC7900 SFF computer of Intel Core2duo E85000 Office HP does not include drivers for this printer win7, win7 has built in drivers Stupid question on a HP Deskjet 3420 I know that this question will make me the laughingstock of the forum for the coming weeks, but I just ask. Look at the pictures of the printer, I am checking for purchase to use with a Mac for the basic text printing, I can see where the book comes out of the printer, or at least I think I can. It seems to come out at the lower part of the front of the printer. But where to go IN the printer before it is printed on paper? Normally, the printers I have used in the past have some kind of arrangement of the slot at the back of the upper part of the printer where you can put maybe 20 A4 sheets that are used according to the needs, but on images of this printer I think the top is all closed. Thank you for not laughing. Steve Hi Steve,. The paper source is also on the front of the printer, so if you put say 20 sheets of paper in the tray, when it prints, it pulls the top piece of paper in the printer and it ejects on top the rest of the unused paper - if you look at the pictures on the link below, it may be more sensible than my explanation I hope this helps. Best wishes DP - K Impossible to print on the printer hp deskjet 3420 for windows 7 driver I have an HP deskjet 3420 printer I am trying to set up as a local printer to my PC. HP site doesn't have any driver for this printer and says to use deskjet 3600. When I look at my available printer drivers I can't find a 3600 printer driver. Also, went into windows update as the support instructions say and update could not find a driver. Tried to download a driver windows 7 for a deskjet 3600 and it say instructions to use windows update, which had not worked for me. I tried several other print drivers and have no luck with one of those I chose. any help appreciated thought about it not need to go far thanks DeskJet 3420 just stopped printing... why? I recently lost the use of my wonderful 940c due to a faulty cartridge Deskjet (Yes, it's a HP), so I have brought out a 'new' Deskjet 3420 (but outdated) of my closet. It works well, but all of a sudden just stop printing. In my view, a paper jam may have preceded the problem, but I know that, whatever it is, I was printing at the time of bottling did print. I tried re-initialization of the system, but no help. I tried to install the new cartridges, but once again no help. What in heaven's name happened? I'm lost without a printer. Thanks for your suggestions help. HI - can you give some more details? You receive an error message? Is there a flashing light? One thing to try: -Unplug the USB cable to the back of the printer. -Try printing a self-test: HP Deskjet 3420 'Properties' not recognized I recently had to reinstall my printer HP Deskjet 3420, software and the driver. Since then, I was unable to access print PROPERTIES in order to change the paper size or orientation. The printer uses a direction of size and 'portrait' by default 'letter paper '. I have (allegedly) the most recent driver and the original HP software CD. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, nothing helps. Could someone suggest a solution, please. I managed to solve this problem. HP have a web page giving the driver to substitute for the use of this device and many other HP Windows Vista devices. Have installed the compatible driver which is included in the Vista software and all is well. I have now deleted the old software and I am now happy. HP Deskjet 3420 does not work with Win 8? Hi all! I am facing a lot of problems with my printer (Desket 3420) that doesn't seem to work with Win 8. I installed it first with the 'old' drivers supplied with the original CD, and then, when I discovered the problems of compatibility, I tried the Deskjet 3600 drivers provided by Windows Update. The printer seems to be properly installed and "ready" (if I can see in Control Panel), but every time I launch he grabs a sheet and seems to start printing but awkwardly, with characters bad and extremely slow, even if I set the option "starts printing immediately" or, Alternatively, "start printing when the coil is complete! Also when I try to delete a document in the print queue, it seems not respond! Can someone help me find a solution? There is the chance to use this printer with Win 8 or I have to buy a recent news? Thank you for the support. Hello As you can see below, I'm afraid your pritner is not compatible with Windows 8: http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03457812 Shlomi DeskJet 3420: deskjet 3420 other driver installed, but the printer is still not printing Hello everyone, I followed the instructions under the "alternative install print driver for Win 7 for USB. Once the Windows Update over the 3600 was not present, but the 9800 has been (I've read is also a generic driver). I can see the printer in my list of printers (I only have 1) and the driver says he's the 9800. I changed the port of LT1 to USB001. When I ask it to print a test page, it is listed in the print jobs & then disappears as if he thinks that the work has been done. I tried each of the USB ports & they are all the same. The printer has a green check mark next to it and says it's working properly. I don't know if I have an application of 32 or 64-bit. What did I miss? Then I thought about it and the instructions on this site are not correct, at least for my set up. The windows update took more than 8 hours for me, so be patient and then the deskjet 3600 printer was not the first time. Two windows updates, 3600 driver has been identified. Hooray! Then, I chose USB001 from printer port. Then he said to go to, click on computer management rt, but printers are managed not there at all. I went in the devices & Printers and found my printer then rt click on, and then select printer properties. Under the Advanced tab click new driver, and the list of windows drivers update came. I followed the Installation Wizard of printer and after I clicked Finish, I could go back and print the test page. Eureka. I spent hours on this and I hope this can help someone else. See you soon Hello I tried to install drivers several times, and they all install. When I plug in my printer to the computer recognizes the printer, and it seems that the printer works. But as soon as I try to print a test page, it does not work. I think it may have something to do with the configuration of the printer driver. Any help will be appreciated. Deskjet 710/720/810/820/1000 Series printers - Patch for 64 bit Vista and Windows 7 There is a problem with the 64-bit, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 or 8.1 drivers which causes the spooler crash with the following HP Deskjet printers: DeskJet 710 DeskJet 712 DeskJet 720 DeskJet 722 DeskJet 810 DeskJet 812 Deskjet 820 DeskJet 822 DeskJet 1000 The attachment contains a fix for this problem for Vista and Windows 7. [The patch does not work for Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 x 64 systems. There are efforts to this address, if a solution is developed it will be shown here. [{Edit - I did not progress by getting the patch to run in Windows 8 x 64.}] First of all make sure that the driver for the installed printer. If the driver has not been installed go to start devices and printers, add printer, the local printer, choose the appropriate port (for the converters, USB-parallel, the port likely USB001: or maybe USB002 :), then click Windows Update then choose HP for the manufacturer and select the appropriate printer.) Apply the patch as follows: log in to the computer with an administrator account. Download the patch by clicking on this link or on the trombone at the end of this post. Save the hotfix on your computer, then unzip it. Then, copy the three DLL files in the following directory: %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 Note that %windir%\System32 is a system variable that points to the location of the Windows directory. For most systems it will be C:\Windows. You can click Start, computer, and type %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 in the address bar and it is in the right place. This can be done from a DOS command prompt if BACK is opened with the "run as Administrator" command or to explore with a copy and paste. Depending on your UAC settings, you may need to provide confirmation. Also allow existing files to be replaced if you are prompted. This patch is not necessary and should not be applied to a 32-bit version of Vista or Windows 7. Thanks to extraordinary Microsoft engineer Alan Morris forguidelines for patch. Update - here is that of the more detailed installation instructions: Download the patch on the DJ_Patch.zip at the bottom of the page and save it on your computer. Now click on the file and open it, and then extract the fix in a directory that is easy to find. (I use c:\temp. If this directory does not exist you can create it as follows: open the administrative BACK prompts by clicking Start, all programs, accessories, and then right-click on CMD. EXE and select run as administrator. Click in the DOS window, and then type the following command: MD c:\temp CD \temp Now extract the patch files in the c:\temp directory (all, extract c:\temp chose as a destination). [Update - Windows security settings can prevent these files from being used, please open computer, type c:\temp in the address bar and then right click on each of the dll files and select Properties.] If there is a message indicating the properties file has been downloaded from the internet and can be blocked and then unlock the file before continuing.] Then, click back to the administrative DOS prompt and type the following: (the green stuff are comments, do not type them...) *. DLL DIR (just to check that the files are there, it should list hpvdb720.dll, hpvdb820.dll and hpwm5db1.dll and perhaps others). Net stop spooler (ensures that the files are not in use.) Copy hpvdb720.dll C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 (this is for the Deskjet 710/712/720/722) Copy hpvdb820.dll c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 (this covers the Deskjet 820 and 822) Hpwm5db1.dll c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3(this covers the Deskjet 1000 copy) NET Start Spooler Output [Edit - note that these DLL files will already be in the directory. You will get a warning asking if it's OK to replace the files, say "Yes".]
At this point, the patch is installed and ready to print.
Note that here printers do not support USB connections, they have only the parallel ports. [Edit - if your printer has a parallel port to use, it will be probably much less problematic than the use of a converter USB / parallel]. If you use a make you converter USB / parallel it is supported in your operating system. The following messages are reported by cables USB-parallel that are supposed to work in Windows 7. A driver is required for the converter USB / parallel besides the driver of the printer. For converters supported, it is usually provided automatically in Windows 7. Note: the appropriate to select for USB-parallel converter port is often USB001:. I've heard of cases where the port was USB002: or LPT3: as well. If the port you are using is unable (after applying the fix) try to change the port by going to start, devices and printers, right-click on your printer and select printer properties, then click the Ports tab. Mick4 wrote: the problem is that I only could unzip the 3 dll files but don't know how to replace the bad dll files. Mick 4 If you use Windows 7 do the following: log in as a user with the administrater properties. [The following assumes that you are using IE as your browser] Click on the here link and select "Save". Once the download is complete, select "Open folder", then right-click on the DJ_patch.zip file and select extract all. If extract all is not an option, then click on "Open with" and select Windows Explorer. Leave the default directory and check the box "Show extracted files when you are finished", excerpt. Click Start, computer, and type % windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3. Arrange the windows so that you can access the two parts of the window. Go in the first pane and select the three files dll, hpvdb720.dll, hpvdb820.dll and hpwm5db1.dll. Now drag and drop them to the % windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 window, select copy and answer to 'replace' in the dialog box. Note: %windir%\System32 is a system variable that points to the Windows directory. For most systems it will be C:\Windows, but it can vary depending on the configuration of NDO of hardware configuration of the computer. If you type %windir%\SysWoW64\cmd.exe in the address bar in Explorer or in start, search programs and files, it will find the right directory. It is true the promotion?
