HP Deskjet 5740: Permissions problem

That's very bad... seems to be a problem of type chickens and eggs... I changed the permissions to prohibit all access to the printer.   Account that includes me, apparently without realizing.   I cannot now access the printer, or change the settings for return authorization.   Because I stopped everyone to make changes...

He will not let me delete my system printer either (I thought that if I deleted and reinstalled it can reset the permissions).

There must be a way to change it back so I can use the printer.   Help!

There are a growing number of messages in this forum and elsewhere in the internet with the steps to do a reset on different printers.  Reset to will sometimes fix problems, so resetting is not the issue.

A few resets require you to enter key combinations to open special menus on your printer that you were supposed to never access.  These special menus are used by developers and staff support for debugging of problems, but they are not intended for inexperienced users and can have unexpected results.  A wrong button push and you might no longer have a printer, but rather an expensive paper weight.  On top of that, if you happen to the 'brick' the printer in this way, it is considered as customer induced damage and voids the warranty automatically. These resets are only intended to be distributed and used as a last resort and under the direct instruction of a representative of the HP technical support. They should not be made lightly!

  • HP officejet 5740: HP officejet 5740 printer problem

HP officejet 5740 - having problems printing.  Output is white pages with light smear.  However, when I run the diagnostic tests (step 3/level), information will print correctly.  Now, just keep using more and more ink on the different levels of test diagnoses but still cannot print or copy simple documents.  Suggestions?

    Hi Photoray002,

    Thanks for your reply.

In fact, I found a video online that solved the problem for me.  Faulty ink!  Cartridges showed they were half full, but once I replaced the ink, the problem has been resolved.

Never had this before so was quite a revelation.  Keep your answer on the record in case something pops up!

  • DeskJet 5740: Replaced bkack ink does not

Black ink ran out of my deskjet 5740. I stopped by a store to buy a replacement. The associate gave me 96 black. On the side of the box it says it is compatible with the Deskjet5740.

When I got home and succeeded him and tried to copy something it wouldn't work. I get the message to change the cartridge.

Looking at the number of original black ink supplied with the printer when I bought bed 62. But it seems to be a 'unique' amount and 96 seems to be double. Don't know if this is the reason for the different numbers.

    Help, please!

The Officejet 5740 e - all - in - one using the 62 (or 62xl) cartridges.  There is a Deskjet 5740 that uses the older HP 96 cartridges.  (There is also an Officejet J5740 that uses different cartridges.)

You will need to replace the cartridge, the HP 96 is not compatible with your Officejet 5740.  I suggest you return the cartridge to your dealer or Contact HP for a replacement.

  • Cannot open pictures (jpg) in Windows 8 after restoring a backup of my old laptop to Windows 7. Permissions problem?

Using a WD 1 TB external hard drive and the WD software, I made a backup of my old computer with the intention of transferring pictures, documents, etc. to my new computer Windows 8.

Files backed up and I restored it selectively records my images on the new computer without error.

When I open the folder my pictures in Windows 8, I see the files but the imprint does not show the picture.  to place an icon for Windows picture something or another watch (purple photo of the mountains).

Images will be open in everything I tried.  Something about a permissions problem.

Any ideas on what I could have done wrong or how to fix the permissions problem, so I can see my photos?

Click on the photos (you can select/highlight all and do it once for each of them at the same time) and go to properties.  On the Security tab, click Advanced, and then change the "owner" for your user account (search in the options that appear).

After you set the owner, click OK until all boxes are saved/closed.  Return to properties again and this time, set yourself to have "total control" on the files. Now you should be able to open and use.

  • Unable to select/change a printing quality on Deskjet 5740

Recently, I lost my ability to print on a DJ 5740 after completing a boot on a Mac G5 iMac, running Mac OS X 10.4.11.  Thinking that somehow secure boot affected/deleted the driver of 5740 DJ, I rebooted the 5740 Driver from the HP website.  After the Driver Install finished, I noticed that the PaperType/quality was not registered iunder the'Copies & Pages drop-down list to select the print quality (e.g. Normal, quick project, etc.).  After reading the Readme Doc DJ 5740, it describes how to get the print quality on the print screen.  The file Readme Doc suggested to disable all functions of picture on the layout, but I have been unable to locate any reference to photographic reports.  Could you please provide a procedure step by step as t what should I look for to turn off the features?

    Hi ther Blazer5,.

I saw your post not being able to print with your Deskjet 5740. I would recommend to reset the system to see if this helps you bring the print feature.

This command resets all of the printing system to its default configuration.

    I hope this helps

  • My HP Deskjet 5740 printer does not recognize my new HP Photocartridge 348

My HP Deskjet 5740 printer does not recognize my new HP Photocartridge 348. It is brand new, not expired, official but I only get black prints. I can't find anything useful on the HP support site. The printer is not set to only print in black.

The cartridge goes in the slot for cartridges of blacks, there is no colourcartridge in the other location at this time. So either he needs a color cartridge to work together (but how to know I'm not only to print my photos with the colourcartridge and using the photocartridge as a black cartridge cheap?) or the printer believes that the photocartridge is just one other black ink cartridge.

    Any suggestions?

The Photo cartridge has not all the colors, Photo black, cyan and light magenta.  It is used in conjunction with the color cartridge (which feeds the cyan, magenta and yellow) for photo printing.

If you want to print in color, you will need a color cartridge.  The color cartridge can print in black (approximately) by itself, but the photo or black print cartridge cannot print without the color cartridge color.

  • Access denied. Permissions problem

    Hi all

I get the dreaded "access denied. "There is error the file may not or there is a permissions problem.

I am the administrator of my site, and we have implemented to use webdav. This error ONLY occurs when someone sends a page to another user for review. Therefore, the examiner is unable to publish the page. She just keeps giving this error.

I tried to delete the folders _mm, locks, etc., but nothing works. Apart from that, I will soon have more than 500 people using Contribute to edit pages, so I won't be able to remove these files and locks all the time.

Anyone has an idea why this might happen? All of my users belong to the same group (www), and everyone has the same permissions of read/write on the server.

    Thank you!

EGAD! Do not remove the _mm folder!

Make sure that your users have access read/change the _mm folder and the MMWIP folder at the root of the site. We had the same problem and does disappear. Temporary files are stored there when you perform a send for review.

  • Permissions problem

    Hello world

I have a problem with permissions to write and read my hard drive on airport Time Capsule.

I can't change the privilege, he tell me that: the operation cannot be performed because you don't have the required permissions.

But I'm the only one using this time Capsule so I am the admin.

What can I do to change the permissions?

    Thank you.

The permissions are a lot more of a problem with El Capitan. You have a computer that still use older BONES?

I recommend that you create the folder from the finder in El Capitan... then use the old computer to move the files to the new folder that you created.

No luck so talk to me... but you cannot fix the permissions on the network drive on El Capo. And it's powerful fussy.

I guess the only way then is to archive the files on USB... so you can plug the drive into your computer, access files, then copy backup.

  • Permissions problem (Urgent)

Well, I'll try not to get the warranty here that I'm under strong frustration right now.

I just finished a 30-minute film I work 8 months of editing, and I'm sending to master. I decided to go with not compressed for the outing, so I had to buy a new external SSD. (Obviously will be not only be used for this) So I went through the routine of export it to my new record, and here's what I got:

Apparently, I was not allowed to share yet, but I like what I'm going to do what he told who was to turn on the permissions in the file. I went to the file and went to permissions and saw this:

My apologies for the little it is, but if you look under sharing and permissions in the left window, you will see that reading and writing is on for me (benson of grants), which is insane, because I can't obviously always save my movie on this disc. Also, on a side note, is not only the traffic, I'm not allowed to do it for anywhere on my computer for some reason not more, it's really confusing, but the disc is the thing that worried me.

It frustrates me a lot, since now, I did nothing to help me solve the problem. I looked around, quite a bit here, but have not really found a whole bunch to work with, I tried to watch "Repair disk permissions", but there is no error message. I'm really retarded to get this movie made, and especially to my friend who is going to be master it, so help would be very appreciated. Thank you!

    I'm running FCP 10.2.1

  • Permissions problems after manual migration of the deleted user

I am the admin of my iMac, although there are a couple of other users. After rising problems with accidents, which does not reinstall OS X, my user account has become so corrupted that Finder would launch is no longer and I was forced to do something drastic. Not wanting to reproduce the problem, I decided to give up Time Machine restore and I have just created a new user for myself and deleted my previous user account, preserving its content.

It turns out that the copy of my user deleted to my new files was not something Apple intention we can do.

I changed the permissions on all the files in the old (deleted) user folder to read and write to my new user and applies this setting to the contents of all folders. However, I was still unable to move the folders in my new user folder - it copied instead. Okay, well, it makes everything more difficult, but I worked through it. Now that the files have been copied to my new user folder and permissions are certainly on my current user (admin), OS X still think that I don't "own" them, i.e., I can't move things and I type my admin password to be able to copy things.

Many Google searches on this issue have turned only complex terminal procedures that I'm not of course are worth risking. I hope that someone here in the infinitely knowledgeable Mac community has a solution for me. Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you changed the file property?
If this isn't the case, then you can change the ownership of the file using the chown command in terminal.

Using one of the administrator account on the machine, you can run:

    sudo chown - Rv User1/Users/user3/dir1 /.
(where "user1" will be the user that you want to change the property of and "/ Users/user/dir1 / ' will be the path of the file/directory or file you want to make this change to) [you might be promoted a password if you just enter the password there is no feedback that the password entered]

Once the user has files that you should have no problem moving them to the users directory.

  • Facilities clean and permissions problems

One of the old pieces of advice if you had an insoluble problem of the Mac was to do a clean reinstall / remove and reinstall of the operating system. I wonder if it's still good advice,

I just bought a new Mac Mini running El Capitan and started having problems with it, and the steps of troubleshooting was not using the Migration Wizard, but just manually drag my documents created by the user since the backup disk, Time Machine.

Unfortunately, when I tried, I had problems with terrible permissions with my files, with the Mac, forcing me to enter my password to the user EVERY TIME I tried to move, rename, delete, change, re-register or possibly to copy my files. Of course, it would be a nightmare with thousands of files created over the years.

Unfortunately, when I called Apple support, I got conflicting advice on how to solve the problem. A counselor said I should hang out all my files from my backup of documents directly to the My Documents folder and do the correspondence with the library, Applications, movies, music, Photos, etc., then repair permissions on my HD. Another Advisor gave a totally different view.

I know the permissions is a basic UNIX functionality, but it is something that has always puzzled me. So I was wondering if maybe old advice th to manually restore your files are no longer valid, and if I should just trust the Migration Wizard in the future and hope for the best?

Reset user - file property See post by Linc Davis

You may need to restore the permissions on your user account. To do this, start on your recovery partition (hold down the command and R during startup) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In the Terminal, type: 'resetpassword' (without the), press return, and then select the admin user. You do not have to reset your password. Click the icon of your Mac hard drive at the top. In the list box below, select the user account that has problems. At the bottom of the window, you will see a box labeled restore Home Directory permissions and ACLs. Click the button to reset there. The process takes a few minutes. When you're finished, restart.

Fix the permissions of the user

  • HP Deskjet 6988: The problem is how to get to 'double-sided automatically' with 10 WIN my HP Deskjet 6988 printer

My Deskjet 6988 has been printing double-sided automatically (I have the setting of appropriate material) for the last 3 years. However, when I upgraded to Windows 10, who have enough work. No pilot is available online (HP site) and the disc that came with my printer does not work with Windows 10. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Really, I love my printer and do not think I should buy a new printer for automatic two-sided printing.

On Windows systems, the function "automatic detection" used by some drivers on the install (or update) does not always; make sure the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that a single is present):

    • For the instance of the printer in question, bring up the printer properties dialogue.
    • Select the device settings tab.
    • Make sure the duplex unit is set to installed and not installed.

You will probably need to be logged in with administrator credentials in order to change the settings of the device.

If your model does not have a duplex unit equipped (i.e. not one of the models with a suffix "d"), then you can't do automatic duplexing. You can do manual duplex printing (assuming that the printer driver supports this).

  • Deskjet 3000 printer problem

DeskJet 3000 shows OK ink levels. the test print on most lines only 1/2 the height of letters. Printer did not run for about 5 months. ???

The printhead on the cartridge for this model, is about half an inch, so if the white lines repeat every half inch or so indicate, ink do not come out. You may need to run 'clean' print head (or can be called 'clean cartridge'), a few times until all the ink jets are disabled. On some models there is a "Deep cleaning" mode, if requested, try this.

If the problem persists, maybe replace the black ink cartridge.
