HP EliteBook 8730w RAM problem

Hello. I have a laptop HP EliteBook 8730w, with an Intel Core2Duo T9600 processor, 2 GB of DDR2 RAM and a graphics card than GeForce 2700 Mr., I would buy a 4 GB DDR2 RAM HP plate, but I couldn't find one, and I want to know what are the other brands of compatible with my laptop 4 GB RAM. Thank you.

Hello:

I use the Crucial.com memory Advisor and purchase from Crucial.com.  They do business in the USA, UK, US and the European Union

http://www.crucial.com/

If you can not buy from them just to use the specifications provided and get some memory from another manufacturer like Kingston.

  • HP EliteBook 8730w: replacement of SSD for the boot drive not recognized

I'm trying to install a Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500 GB instead of the original 500 GB HDD in my Elitebook 8730w (product no. VF889PA #ABG). The 8730w has the latest BIOS (F.20) installed and that is running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (fully patched).

When it is connected to the laptop through a USB adapter, to clone the HARD disk image. the SSDS works correctly. Cloning through data Migration Samsung is reported as a success, and the image of the C:\ drive occupies approximately 153 GB. The image of the disc does not include the partition of 1 GB dedicated to HP_TOOLS, due to a known limit of the Samsung software supplied.

When it is installed in the HARD drive Bay. the SSD is not recognized as a drive and does not appear in the list of startup options. The available boot options only shown are the DVD or a network boot.

would be very grateful for any advice on the steps required to successfully install the Samsung SSD as boot drive.

    Hmmm.
Honestly no, I'm not happy with this one. If it was my machine, I'd be a little concerned about whats the corner of the street. In view of the age, is not surprising really, things wear out over time, the mere fact of electronics.

Search through everything you have posted, all photos, pdf, all the text double checking. I am absolutely puzzled as to what happened. If you 100% does not reinstall the hard disk between the posts above where no HARD drive is detected in the menu boot options for the post below that where the HARD drive is detected in the same menu. I would say that you have a problem with either, the ssd, the computer motherboard laptop or the small connector on the sata port, I think on these is integrated on the motherboard, so it seems that your advice is doubtful.
If his works now, great... but be aware that your machine can fail at some point in the near future. And it looks like a defect of the motherboard, other things are probably waiting to fail.

There is no reason whatsoever your laptop must not have seen this ssd at first startup. A HARD drive is a HARD disk, if its compatible sata, then it will work, no doubt. When he is not on an older machine, its probably a sign of a faulty component.

Looking through your bios options, I recommend the following.

On startup options, get rid of internal nic pxe boot, that will only slow your machine at startup as it will seek for a network bootable device. This is the message that you get at startup saying Media Test Failure, this page is preventable with this option disabled.
Less built lan/wlan switching on enabled in the options of the terminal, also change. This means that if you use wifi at home for example and you decide to plug in a cable network directly to the router to speed up the connection, it will not pass if it is not defined, you will have to do it manually. I work in a large company and the number of people who have this option is unreal. They all assume when they are docked they will on the wired connection.

Because we are here too, if you ever have problems with a flickering screen, first thing to try, is disable the ambient light sensor which is just below this option of switching. Its fine on normally, but its quite common on 8560p for this causes a flickering screen.

Hope that helped. Good luck in what you decide to do with the machine

I need to do a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64 bit on my trusty 8730w.  Try some Thinkpads I used make is easy in the face of this problem by allowing you to download the wifi driver, and a tool to update the system that makes most of the rest of the driver install for you.  I guess they aren't counting on old IBm'ers be smart enough to figure it out for themselves.

  • EliteBook 8730w: w SSD HARD drive replacement

I'm considering buying an SSD to replace the boot disk in an EliteBook 8730w. Two questions. Are the 3 SATA SSD is backward compatible? Does anyone have experience putting a SSD in this model?

  • HP EliteBook 8730w: new installation of Windows 7 on HP EliteBook 8730w?

Is it possible to do a fresh install of Windows 7 on HP EliteBook 8730w?

In other words, if my machine is not currently of any operating system installed, I can use a DVD to install Windows 7 directly or do I install Windows Vista first, before the upgrade to Windows 7?

    Hello:

If you have a lot of retail or oem drive of W7 installed and the corresponding product key, you need not to install vista first.

If you have a drive of W7 upgrade, then you must install vista first and then upgrade to W7 and select the custom (clean) installation option then enter the W7 upgrade product key.

If you upgrade a disk, there may be a way to install W7 without installing Vista first.

You can do a search on the internet for a few links that provide information about how to do this.  For example:

  • AC adapter / CC / Elitebook 8730W-can I use 200W safely?

I have a laptop EliteBook 8730w. It comes with an external adapter Smart AC 120 watts to 150 watts.

A friend gave me a 200W power adapter replacement which was originally for the 8740w. It matches my 8730w but is it safe to use as it is of a higher power than the original?

I talked to HP Support and they advised its fine to use the adapter of 200W. Since they are intelligent adapters, they are made to reduce power regardless of the laptop needs. That is, if the laptop is peaks at 150 w or 90W then the adapter will only provide that much.

  • EliteBook 8730w: need help with reset password BIOS HP Elitebook 8730w

Dear community, I have a HP Elitebook 8730w and I forgot the BIOS password. I tried everything I could remember, I slept several days above to remind him, but I'm lost. I contacted HP support and they said that they would not help with a file of type smc.bin (which has been mentioned in many forums). No idea how to fix? I need to change the HARD disk but do not dare to do so that I can not configure the new HDD or SSD in BIOS.

Help would be appraciated. I do not directly post P/N and S/N, due to privacy regulations in this forum. But if anyone can help me, please send a message and I'll post all the necessary details.

I am a student and have small budget so I was willingly using this Elitebook old but fine. But now I'm really in trouble.

  • EliteBook 8440p: Ram upgrade problem

I currently have 4 GB of ram, and I recently took a 4 GB stick on another laptop. When I add the new RAM, Windows crashes. The BIOS reads the new RAM (8 in total), but Windows won't load. The new RAM is <4gb 1rx8="" pc3l="" 12800s="" -="" 11="" -="" 12="" -="" b4="">what I've read, the speed max is 10600 on this computer. Is there a way to reduce the RAM? BIOS is locked and not helpful. My questions are: is the speed, the only question? Is there a way to fix this? I would like to solve this legitimately, but if there are other options which may void the warranty, I'd be interested to hear about so, purely for academic purposes.

    Thank you!

The speed is not the only problem, it's the tension. Your original brief was 1.5 volts and this new memory is 1.35 volts. It can run at 1.5 volt, but prefer not to and you did not provide a part number for the module, but if it is high density (4 black blocks on each side) it will not play nice with the original HP module. Do yourself a favor and get the memory of one of the good sellers, Crucial, Kingston, etc., that is specified as compatible with your specific model. Intel Core of first generation like yours are very capricious in memory.

  • iMac 27 2010 graphics card / ram problem

Hello - read through the form and try to isolate the problem.  A week ago my end 2010 iMac 27 I7, 12 GB of Crucial Ram, OSX Yosemite went screwy - icons went fuzzy, and the system has just stopped responding. I tried not just pull the plug, but the computer was out of order, so I had to pull the plug. Please keep in mind it was a day hot here in New York and I've come for a quick moment to remove some files and did not close the windows a turn on the AC, so they probably overheated system or so I guess

Anyway, after a few hours and I came back home and turned back on the iMac. Immediately, I noticed some pale red bans on the screen. The system has been restarted slowly and then it stop at halfway however and just go to the gray screen. I did a reboot, re-installed the operating system made the system check, but the failure of operating system to kick when I do a normal restart, and I am only able to operate the computer in Mode safe.

Is there a way I can understand if the RAM is the question, the graphics card, or if it's the OS? A faulty graphics card will prevent the system from starting normally? I have the same question when I open it on safe mode?

I'm trying to see if there is a way to save the iMac and get more use out of it, but at the same time a few years if it's gong to fix an expensive that I can't do on my own, so maybe its not worth what's now 5-6yrld of fixing iMac little matter how the computer cost me back in 2010.

Thanks for your help and sorry if this question has been answered countless times before.

    JB

    Most likely graphics card problem...

    Note:

One way to test is to boot from the HD, (now shift key at startup), run utility disk in Applications > utilities, then highlight your reader, click on repair permissions, test for problem in Mode safe...

PS. secure boot can remain on the gray radian for a long time, let go, he's trying to repair the hard drive & trash/rebuild the cache files

    Reboot, try again.

If it does so only in ordinary chest, there could be a problem material such as Video card, (the Quartz is disabled in Safe Mode), or airport, some USB or Firewire devices, or the module in part 3, Check System Preferences > accounts (users and groups in later versions of OS x) > login items window to see if she or something relevant is listed. Or a stray process eating RAM.

  • RAM problem

I have 8 GB of RAM installed in my MacBook Pro. Suddenly, I found almost all of this is in use, making my computer run like molasses in winter. I recently installed a updat for OSX but don't know if that is the question. I run many apps and just do basic stuff, nothing complicated. And it is not consistent, either.

All used RAM isn't the problem. That's the idea and the OSX is very good in management RAM.

You are right that the 8 GB is your max.

You are limited by the memory of the CPU bus.

  • Mac Mini Ram problem

    Hello

I just replaced the hard drive in my Mini 2011 Mid and during reassembly of the Mini and reinstall the RAM modules, the top was hard to seat. When I got the upper module in it makes a sort of "Bully" of noise (metal grid sound). At the start, I had the three beep to tell there is a problem of RAM card. I took the modules and re-sitting them, top of page gross sounding again. Same three beeps.

I then took the upper module and has attempted to restart the machine - it booted up OK.

What happened here? I destroyed the motherboard? Is this a known issue? Any thoughts appreciated.

Inspect the contacts on the memory that went into the top slot. Inspect the top slot anomalies such as curved plastic and bent or corroded contacts.

Other users have damaged locations when replacing memory. Can be caused by does not receive the baton in properly and forcing, debris got into the slot or on the key and he was forced in.

I think that now the slot is damaged. and yo either have to replace the logic board or only a slot to use.
