HP Elitebook 8760w restarts

Hey there,

1 week ago I bought my new pc (HP Elitebook 8760w, LG670EA #UUG, with Windows 7 64-bit) because I need it for my studies. And after a few days, my pc started with reboot by itself, but not immediately after starting my pc, only at variable times. Well yesterday it happened 4 or 5 times a day and I became sick of it, so I went to the internet and found this solution (http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSe...), but when I follow the steps and start HP Support Assistant, he says there is no update available , so I think that the BIOS is not the problem. (Note: in HP Support Assistant, next to the logo HP Total Care, it says "an error has occurred")

What can I do instead of updating the BIOS? Or can someone help me?

OK, a few hours ago, I reset my profile in HP Power Assistant of the "Balanced" to "HP optimized" and now restart itself so I hope he doesn't, but for me the matter is closed, he stopped

    Hi Paul,.

    Thanks for the quick response.

The proposed version did not work.

    I found a version for Windows 7 x 64 (sp56876.exe) here and used.

It took a former .NET Framework (3.5) in order to install so I had to activate only in the front Windows settings.

After reboot, all access keys work.

I am trying to upgrade Windows 7 Pro for Windows Pro 10, with little success.

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I've updated several PC Win7 Win10 - and they had all these problems in one way or another... so I wrote this to provide advice to people considering such update...

You think about the amount of work that you want to post just to run Win10.  Seriously.  Old machine Win7 tend to come in two flavors when it comes to upgrading Win10 - really easy and really difficult.

The really hard to upgrade computers fall into two categories: (1) those who are expandable to Win10 and works OK, (2) those who are not.

Computers laptops HP, especially old Win7 machines, often came with two different graphics - and Intel chips and then either a processor AMD or Nvidia.  This was known as switchable graphics card or hybrid.  You have run using the Intel chip most of the time, but when you need additional graphics power, as in the game, the PC automatically switched over to the use of the AMD or Nvidia graphics chip.

Problem is, this requires special graphics drivers to work, and while that those that are preinstalled on laptops Win7, these drivers simply do not exist for Win10.  These drivers are not available from Intel, AMD or Nvidia.  One way to tell if your PC has two different graphics chips is to look in under Graphics Device Manager.  If there are two different cards in the list, an Intel and AMD/Nividia, then you have this problem - and if you force an upgrade to Win10, you will have serious graphic problems and your machine will not work.

However, if you do not have this problem, to CAN pass to Win10, but you must be willing to do four things:
    (1) do a full image backup of disk external drive or USB stick, capacity
    (2) changes to the reserved system partitioning hard disk recommandΘes mΘthodes,
    (3) use a different approach and maybe more than one, as Windows Update to do the upgrade,
    (4) prepare for a clean install.

    ---------------------------------
    1: backup of images:
This is VITAL, because the machine is doomed to failure of the upgrade, and when that happens, you will learn that GoBack to Win10 function is NOT reliable, and that can leave you with a corrupt machine that will require the factory reset and lose all that on it, to get it working again.

You can avoid this by making an image backup to an external hard drive or a USB drive using Macrium reflect (MR), which provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or drives together.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.
    ---------------------------------
    2: System reserved for resizing:
There is a small partition on the HDD with Win7 preinstalled machines known as system reserved.  It is something known as the boot loader code.  There is 100 MB format: all that is necessary for Win7.  But Win10 needs 350 MB and, in some cases, is NOT able to resize it on its own.  IF this happens, you must manually use a partitioning tool to resize it yourself.
    ---------------------------------
3: use a different approach to upgrade:
Windows Update is the simpler, but less reliable, way to do the upgrade from Win10.  A much better and more reliable way is to use Microsoft Media creation tool: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10 choose the upgrade this option now PC.

After all this, you know that MS install drivers with only the most basic features.  Given that HP does not have drivers for your PC Win10, this limited functionality is the best you're going to get.  HP does not actively write new drivers from Win10 for the old PC Win7.  To keep all the features of your PC, your best shot is NOT to upgrade to Win10.
    ---------------------------------
    4: be prepared to clean-install:
If you do all this, and after the upgrade, your PC works partially, this means that the upgrade is not well and stuff is still there the previous OS corrupt the functionality of Win10.

You MIGHT be able to solve the problem in fact a clean install of Win10. Problem is that, often, a clean-install does not recognize prior activation, even if it should. So, before doing the upgrade, follow these instructions on the community forums Win10 on creating a genuineticket.xml file: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/23354-clean-install-windows-10-directly-without-having-upgrade-first.html

You need more later to activate your pc Win10 after the installation of clean.

    -----------------------------------------------
    Good luck

  • HP elitebook 8760w fingerprint sensor

I just got my new HP EliteBook 8760w and this is what seems to be a sensor of fingerprint on the right side in front of the keyboard.  It is a glossy black rectangular thing.

My previous laptop was a fingerprint sensor, and I enjoyed using it to connect.

It doesn't seem to be any software to record my fingerprints - it's a fingerprint sensor?  and if so, how do I use?

    Thank you

    Minnie

You are the very welcome, Minnie.

Yes, there is, and here is the link...

  • HP ELITEBOOK 8760W REPLACEMENT DISPLAY PANEL

I want to replace the display (resolution of 1600 x 900) of my HP elitebook 8760w Panel.

Is the specification of Panel dipslay compatible below? And are there other things I need to consider before you replace?

    PART NUMBER: 652521-001
Display the Panel of 43.9 cm (17.3 inch), AG of FHD LED WVA (1920 x 1080 resolution)

I have serious doubts. Often, models that use the higher resolution screen also use a different motherboard and the new Panel will not work. Without doubt, I replaced the Billboard 100 for laptop and it is rare for a higher res screen to 'work '. However, since your computer laptop is a super high-end, can actually only be a motherboard that is capable of driving different billboards. In fact, only a possible mother is listed. Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

    Only two possible signs include:

Display the Panel, 43.9 cm (17.3 inches), high definition (HD + more) anti-Glare (AG) AAFC 652520-001
Display the Panel, 43.9 cm (17.3 inch), FHD AG LED WVA 652521-001

The resolution is not given in the manual, but I would say that the part you describe is compatible with your laptop. I'm afraid that the 652521-001 is actually the lower screen Res. Otherwise, I don't know how much is in your laptop. Are you fun and pull your display panel and check the part number before ordering. Good luck.

  • ELITEBOOK 8760W: yet an another 8760w graphics card question.

After the years of great use of this im lappy with graphical problems, random screen flashes (sometimes it will return to normal other others it goes back like 800 x 600, or I get a message that "driver has stopped responding") it will be de-res, I get Rainbow lines, or parasites.  First, I replaced the screen, then I replaced the screen cable... no change.i reinstalled win 7 pro, drivers, ect. now my question is since the direct oem video cards are becoming difficult to find and expensive, can I install a generic over-pants m5950 and always erase the white list or should it be the HP # 647176-001 video card?

There is not a true whitelist as in wireless cards. A standard over-pants M5950 should work.

  • EliteBook 8760W: possibilities to upgrade graphics card

I currently have 8 gig RAM and graphics AMD over-pants M5950. About to upgrade to 16 gig which is max for this (Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz) processor.  "While I'm here why not upgrade the graphics card?" he asked. The notewbook is 4.5 years.  So, here's my question.  What might work for a new graphics card?  Thanks in advance.

We usually say to people flat out "no upgrade is possible". In your case, not true. You already have a good map. However, the other candidate is the nVidia Quadro 5010 M which is a beast with 4 GB of memory video memory DDR5.

    http://www.notebookcheck.NET/NVIDIA-Quadro-5010M.47195.0.html

    Here is the Service Manual:

    http://h20628.www2.HP.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c02847569-1.PDF

See p. 68 to see how the video card comes out.

If you switch to nVidia, you also get a different fan/radiator for the video card:

Intended only for computers models NVIDIA graphics subsystems 652544-001

Your video card can be bought on eBay for under $ 60, while the Quadro 5010 M costs more than $600 in order to see how much more desirable is the Quadro. You can also search other AMD/ATI cards that are not specified in the maintenance manual, but it's very hit or miss. On the some portable (removable) MXM cards with, they are not universally interchangeable. There are Web sites for only MXM card information and you can see one of them:

    http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/Forum/67-official-MXM-upgradecom-Forum/

As you can see this isn't really a trivial question and must consider and plan carefully. Not just a "Hey while we're here we might as well" kind of thing.
