  Follow the steps below to print using black ink only:

  1. from the application used to print, click the file menu and select print.  The print window is displayed.
  NOTE: The print window might be minimized: click Show details to display all available parameters.

  2. to access the color options, click in the area of selection below, listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
  Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.

  3. Select Type/quality paper in the menu dropdown.

  4. click the triangle next to color Options of spending parameters.

  5. set the color to grayscale field.

  6. set the Mode to grayscale in black cartridge only.

  You can save the settings for later use by clicking preset > save current settings as preset... Once you print using the saved preset will remain by default up to what we will choose another preset.

• HP 4520 Envy: Envy 4520 only printing in black and white

  Whenever I try to print a PDF online or a document of microsoft word or powerpoint ect., it prints in black and white. I did a test of color of the printer and align the cartridges and everything went well. The properties are not set to print in grayscale. I have no idea how to solve this problem.

  I understand that your printer prints in black and white only, even if you can make a color copy.

  According to me, the question is in the print settings itself. Please follow the steps and check mentioned below:

  • Go to control panel - devices and printers - give Envy 4520 right-click and select Printing Preferences.
  • In the pop-up window, click on the 'Advanced' button - check for printing in grayscale option. Make sure it is turned off.
  • Also once you try to print a document please go to properties of the printer to make sure it is not set in the option "print in grayscale".

  If the steps above has not resolved the problem, it could be a problem with the printer drivers. In this case, we might need to uninstall the drivers and re - install the same. You can visit http://hp.care/2bYZled to download the drivers.

  I had this 6700 Officejet just long enough the warranty has expired. Go figure. I have 2 problems.

  1. from my PC, it will print not just black and white, even if I chose "printing black and white only. I have to go through the whole syetem of dialogue ect ect, which is delayed. It prints perfectly just black and white of my portable Macbok.

  2. it won't let me print a document all in black and white, because I have a low color cartridge. Whey do I have to have color cartridges to print just a black and white document. Very annoying and frustrating. I'm almost ready to use as target.

  1. you are able to go to your printer properties and change your settings for printing in black and white only, without having to change it whenever you want to print something. See the steps listed below:

  * Go to your devices and printers

  * Right-click on your 6700 and select Print Options

  * Select your desired default and press Ok

  2. you cannot print without all cartridges installed because even if printing black and white printer will still use the ink contained in the cartridges of color for maintenance tasks. It takes little ink from all cartridges in the service of the print head and avoid any clogging. To get a better understanding of take a look here: use of inkjet printers ink.

  I used to have a printer Photosmart 4400 C that would allow me to scan to produce searchable PDF files, i.e. I could select letters or words in a text selection tool in my PDF reader.   Today, I just bought a DESIRE 4500 e-All-in-One-Series.  It will scan only text to give me a graphic PDF that is not searchable.  I've updated to the latest version of the EN4500_198.exe driver, but it does not help.

  Does anyone have a solution?

  No, the 4500 desire doesn't have any default OCR software, you will have to pay for the software and believe it or not, that the software is more expensive than the printer itself. You can buy the software or you can try to use some free software around:

  I have exactly the same problem as the last poster. You guys repaired my 6 month old Pavilion and in doing so, installed a new "BIOS" with the new internet adapter. At this time there the 4500 WANT stop talking to the computer. All the machines in my house can be printed on the 4500 ENVY, but the printer doesn't recognize not all machines for use "scan to computer".   IF, suddenly, there is a problem with a firewall in my router, which was not a problem before (I checked the router using its web page and there is no firewall to be seen), which should not happen. If there is a problem with the use of Firefox, Zone Alarm or not using Windoze firewall, you guys should change your codes to take care of her. This includes coding for your printer.

  I want to print on a standard USPS postcard (3.5 x 5.5 "), but I don't know if I can do it. The manual says we can't print out a 3 x 5. I don't know how to load the postcard. When I push the medium on its back where the paper goes... He just keeps flowing back in the recesses of the printer, which would obviously result in a horrible jam.   Hi, I bought a new HP DeskJet 3630 series all-in-one printer today. Setting up the printer I did several tests that show color printing, however, whenever I try to print an image in color (working on my daughters school book) it prints in black and white. I did troubleshooting all I can think of, we have no black & white printing turned on. I'm not quite sure, what else to make sure the printer is brand new and should be able to print in color?
  Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

  Not quite sure what I did to make it work, di, but the cleaning cycle for the cartridges of ink & rebooted several times, and the printer is now printing normally =)

  I have an annoying problem with my all-in-one Deskjet F3335.  I print a lot of documents on my printer.  Rarely do I need to print anything in color.

  Since the acquisition of a computer running Windows 7 (x 64), I was not able to print in "grayscale: black cartridge only" on my profile; the only option is 'high quality '. (see image below)  I thought it was a systemic problem until printining something user profile on my husband.  His profile will allow for me to select "black cartridge only."
  

  I tried to uninstall and reinstall the software and updates. This did not help.

  Hoping someone out there might have a suggestion for me on how to solve this problem (and stop wasting my color ink)! Thank you

  As I understand it, you can change the printer to print in only black and white on a profile, but not on the other on the same computer. Is this correct?

  This type of question usually depends on the permissions available on each profile. I would hazard a guess that your husband is a Director or that there privleges more than your own profile. I check to make sure that your account is set up as an administrator first.

  Secondly, I would also check the 'Advanced' tab, that sometimes you can change the settings for printing color black and white or grayscale.

  Does anyone know how to get the printer to print in black and white only?  As others have mentioned, the printer wants to use the cartridge printing black and white color.  When I explore each print option, drop down menu, question mark, it has no option to reset the printer b & w printing only, even if the summary section lists this option in one of windows printing.

  Have you tried cmd - p of any application, paper Type/quality and in grayscale, choose this menu?

  New WANT 7640 all-in-one is only printing in black and white.  Test page prints in color. When you click on a file to print, the image goes in black and white, even before printing.

  Click on the Apple icon and select software update. Click the upper part of the Store menu and select reload this Page.

  If there is no HP update be sure to install it.

  Then open Printers & Scanners, delete the printer and click on the plus sign to add back.

  If it persists, please take a look at what is listed in the use of the drop-down menu when you add the printer.

  So do not forget to confirm the version of the OS by clicking the Apple icon, then the about this Mac... What is the exact version of listed number?
