HP Envy 860-008na: HARD DRIVE C: no space (main road), but my D: has 1.81 TB?

Just brought my new PC and was struggling in the game with peaks of lag.

But after restoreign to factory settings, I noticed that my C: drive has only 117 GB? Where that my D: drive (reprise?) was 1.81... TB!

C: drive is supposed to be the essential motivation for computer? The PC is new not edited or modified... Ask yourself why this fault/problem and how to fix it.

Here's a photo of basic while I was looking at why I had no space in C: drive and the delay of the spikes.

As I was obliged to put games on my D: drive due to lack of space on my C: drive, it could cause a problem with lag spikes that occur?

Cheers, need an answer as soon as POSSIBLE

Hello

I'm not a gamer but know game files are large and have to move a lot of graphic data and CPU to run correctly.

Your new PC comes with a small 128 GB SSD (fast) and a slow 5400 RPM 2 TB HDD.

So you have an inherent bottleneck of design. Games must be installed on the HARD drive slow or you quickly run out of room.

The only solution I can see (there may be others) would buy a lot more SSD for the OS volume (C.) Install games on C:, instead of D:. That would eliminate the bottleneck of the data transfer.

HP Recovery partition and recovery disks/USB can be finicky. You may be tempted to replace the slow HDD with a SSD. It would work, but you may need to buy a 2 TB or SSD of greater. The recovery discs or a USB recovery drive will be used (did you create a set of recovery discs?) to install on the new disk configuration and can choke if the replacement of SSD HARD drive does not match the 2 TB HDD. Increasing the primary disk larger than 128 GB should not adversely impact factory reinstall HP using HP recovery discs or a USB recovery drive...

  • I unwittingly compressed my hard drive to save space. I didn't know that it starts not after that.

    * Original title: Windows Vista, version 1996

I unwittingly compressed my hard drive to save space. I didn't know that it starts not after that. Restarting the PC, how can I unpack my hard drive to allow it to boot this drive?

UM Vista came out in 2007, so there is no version of 1996.  If you have the Vista DVD, you can start since that launch a command prompt and run the command to unpack here.

It's been almost a decade I ran Vista and I do not know the command to compress (or decompress) from a prompt command in Vista

It should be the same for vista

    Monastir,

What happens when it stops it is have a Sata driver. It is on the drivers cd you received with your computer. You can also start the computer and press F2 to enter the bios. From there down to Configuration system - SATA Operation and change this to ATA. It is located to AHCI. Save the changes and restart the installation. Once you have loaded Windows and drivers installed, you will need to go back to AHCI.

  • HP Envy M6: My HARD drive is not bad on my computer? I have reloaded Win 8 and upgraded to Win 8.1 but he keeps crashing

Hi need help and answers from an expert!

My HP Envy M6 Recenly has stopped working correctly, so I decided to recover as soon as possible.  She still had the same problems, so I decided to restore factory with recovery USB flash drive I did.  Always had the same problem happens after I rebooted 8 Win and improved to 8.1.  It would work for a few minutes and stop working I used chkdsk and it says it fixed a few problems with the drive.

I went through the same steps another 3 times!  After each time that once I had that he would be running again after a clean reinstall.  I would like to run chkdsk and it looks like he fixed some error, but last time, it wouldn't or couldn't find some files to run and crashed.  I tried loading Acronis and tried to reinstall the backup from there but that also failed to correct the problem.  I came to the conclusion that my HD is physically wrong?

I guess the recovery process would reformat the partitions before you reinstall so it's not a logic error (software)?  From the recovery partition, the recovery Flash disk media and recovery software acronis can fix this, I can only assume, there is a problem with the drive itself?

Is there a way to check this?  I don't mind replacing the drive to a SSD, so this isn't a problem, but I can't seem to find a product key.  Nothing printed on the bottom.  I read somewhere that it is now integrated with the motherboard bios so can I just use the recovery media that I did on a flash drive?

Also, I have my backup file but I could never find the location of the image my wife loaded as the photo of "lock" screen which I do not have a copy of.  I have the backup files for windows 8.1 by Acronis and according to me, a Windows backup file on a backup drive, but I was wondering if these "locked screen hidden image" would be held somewhere in these data?  It is not under the images and I have never been able to find or understand where windows keeps this image.  I used the search without success.

Of course, this is not critical, but I hate losing this particular image.  I hope it's keep somewhere in my back upward and when restoring with a new drive hard I can reload the backup and restore.

So I really ned knowledge step by step: my HD is bad?  How can I check without having to spend hours to reload only to fail?

Why chkdisk does not?  Or should I simply replace HD and if so what can I use the new disk recovery media and product ID will be accessible through the motherboard?

I intend to upgrade to win 10, but I need Win 8 loading first, then move to 8.1 then move to Win 10?  Also in the future if it crashes how can I recover to win 10? Since it is free now but will not be later.  The upgrade will allow me to make a copy (a copy) to win 10?

A lot of questions, but please provide the fastest solution to my problems and concerns.

    Thank you in advance!

    FM Hawaii

    Hello fmhawaii ;

I read your post on your PC crashing and wanted to help.

It certainly seems that your hard drive has failed.  Some PC allows the drive to check in the BIOS: test a hard drive in the BIOS. HP® customer support

If that confirms that the disc is bad, then you will need to replace it.

As for activation, you are right in that, with Win8x machines, the product key is embedded in the motherboard UEFI firmware, however, the instructions in this link, show you how to recover: find product - key for Windows 8

When you restore from recovery media, which is supposed to automatically read product key, so you will not have to enter something to activate reinstall it.  My guess is that the drive problems that prevented from happening.

Acronis allows you to mount an image file by using a drive letter, and once you do this, you should then be able to browse through the content to find the file you want.  However, depending on what part of the logon icon changed, it might be embedded image in a Windows system file, and unless there is a separate copy of this image, it will be very difficult to recover.  IF you Google it, you might be able to find downloadable tools for disassembly of this file and subseuent extraction of this file.

I wouldn't hurry to Win10, but if you choose to follow this path, don't forget to make a new advance Acronis backup, then you can return to a system of Win8x of work if something is wrong - as the Win10 GoBack function is known to be unreliable.

    Good luck

Page 38 shows the replacement of the hard disk. You can use any 9.5 mm or 7mm thickness 2.5 inch wide disk hard SATA or SSD. The laptop can also take a WSSD mSATA as a throttle control. You probably already have one in place.

  • HP ENVY 17-j053ea hard drive locations

Hi I am looking to buy the HP ENVY 17-j053ea, far specifications correspond to my needs, but there is just one thing I need to know.

Does the laptop afore mentioned have a secondary HARD drive location?

I have an old DV9000 series that has two slots and ideally, I would like to have a secondary home again as I require the storage capabilities without having to carry an external hard drive

    Thank you very much

    Hi Glenn,.

Yes, the Envy 17-j053ea has 2 bays for HARD drives - see Pages 58/59 of the Guide maintenance &.

  • HP ENVY 14-2160se hard drive failure

There is an "error reading drive" when I start and it does not start in windows at all. I did a hard drive test in BIOS and the short DST failed and the failure id is GTU23F-5QF788-XD6V5F-60UR0 for 1 hard drive. I know there is an SSD of 80 and 750 HD but that one failed?

If the ssd has failed can I use the 750 GB HD or does take both?

If I need to replace the SSD I can replace it with a regular HD (on a budget) and which drive size do I need? 2.5?

If in warranty, you can get a guarantee of replacement free of charge for you.

The failure code is for the old hard drive, not the SSD. SSD failure is not common.

You can replace the hard drive with a drive hard laptop SATA (2.5 ") is the same size and up to 1.5 terabytes.

  • Envy 15 j126tx: Hard Drive crashed

Hi, my laptop's hard drive crashed, and I want to know if there is anyway I can get it back. In fact, my 'C' Partition (where the operating system has been installed) was running out of space, so I wanted to extend its size without interfering in anything else and I found on some site manager EaseUs partition can do this task, i.e. without deleting or re creation, it can resize partitions. So I downloaded Manager EaseUs partition and after installation, I tried to resize C, but it gave an error, it says something like the software was not compatible because it is software 32 bit, while I was running Windows 7 64-bit. I just gave up, assuming that this software is working 32 bit and with 64-bit custom. But when I hibernated my laptop, since he never turned on. It shows that there is no hard drive attatched.  I tried to check in the bios, diagnostic tool, but hard drive never showed up. Then I tried to Boot from a USB bootable (Windows 7 bootable USB), but in the section where I chose a player for windows, there is no drive. I tried to restore the repair option in the installer of Windows 7 too, but can't find any repair of the version of windows.

Can I fix my hard drive?

I fell off my hard drive permanently?

My hard drive cable is unplugged? In fact I can't verify it cause I would cancel my warranty otherwise.

P.S. I'm home, and I bought from another city, so I can't go to the dealer earlier!

In fact you will not affect the warranty, if you check the hard drive. See page 47 of the manual here:

    Manual

I think that the hard drive may be dead. The EaseUs couldn't do the invisible to BIOS hard disk or a Windows installation disc, but he could do no bootable hard disk by altering the partition table.

I remove the hard drive and try it in a usb to SATA adapter and see if it turns.

After you install the new hard drive, I turn on the laptop it will make a sound 3 times... As bippp bippp bill and stop... But the custom of laptop screen shows nothing... Please what could be the problem?

    waxdany

If by 'installation' the new drive, you mean that you didn't remove the old drive and replace it with the new drive, of course the laptop won't hurt, because the drive is empty.

You need to restore your PC to factory settings in order to install the necessary things on the new disk in order for the laptop to work using HP recovery media.

It is a set of DVD and a CD or a USB key, which will erase the hard drive (removing all data, applications and settings, reinstall the original OS, drivers and utilities for HP. In some cases, you will be able to order a USB instead of discs.  You must order at HP; they cannot be downloaded.

You can look online for recovery from the paged media related: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, enter your product name or number. On your software page and download the drivers, select your operating system and version. Click on "Update".  If the HP recovery support is available for your computer, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for the command Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click on the symbol '+' to expand this entry and click on order to press for more details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the United States or the Canada, details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: once you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to someone ' one - it can take a while!

If HP no longer provides a recovery media for your model, a few other sites, you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

    Ahoy Pirates,

    Welcome aboard the HP forums.

As far as I know that you need a 7 MM SSD, because those who are quite standard these days is souldn t be a problem.

Note that you need to clone your disk to your SSD. bcause there is only for a HDD/SSD AFAIK.

Then make sure you have at least 250GiB +.

I suggest you go for the crucial series MX 100 or Samsung Evo (I personally recommend the Crucial)
