HP ENVY notebook - m7-n109dx: function keys: No. Dim, brightness or Volume. HP ENVY notebook - m7-n109dx

Is this an update of Windows for W10 BIOS or driver of the HP updates that is / are the culprits.

My machine worked great for two weeks until updates of HP and Windows have started to flow.

Could we please have an expert reslove this without speculation?  I did everything that any user to make themselves except reset Windows 10. This will not happen.

Please, no speculative suggestions.  Just the cure.   Thanks in advance.

The problem is resloved having worked with a technician online from another site.  It is an update of HP that was causing the problem.

  • Dell inspiron 1545 function keys do not show display

My computer Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop show more a display for my function keys for the level of volume, connection wi - fi on / off, lock shift power.  The volume on the system tray icon displays a red 'x' if I press F7.  If I press F8 - decrease the volume or the F9 - increase the volume, there is just no indication of any change in the icon and the volume didn't cange except if I click on the icon and open the sound mixer.  At that time by pressing F8 will reduce the volume, F9 will increase the volume.  I can also increase or decrease the volume with the cursor.  I rely on the sreen screen to let me know if I still lock shift on for example.  I did "run - msconfig" and found that the quick adjustment box was unchecked.  I checked the box.  No change.  I went in "Task manager" but did not "quickset.exe" in "process".  Can you help me?  And, Yes, my laptop was recently built.

  • Update the bios HP Envy 15 t, Windows 8.1, stripped of the keyboard backlight and messed up the function keys

I bought a HP ENVY 15 t-j100 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC about a month ago.

Yesterday an update of the bios was downloaded from HP and implemented.

The backlight on the keyboard has been disabled. I want to come back.

Also, I need to have their ordinary functions, unless you press the shift of fn, function keys.

I couldn't find the option for the backlight I have the information available. Here's the option in the BIOS to enable/disable the use of the fn key.

Please check if there are options for the backlight. In the meantime, I will try also to find information to activate the backlight. You can try using the keys F4 or Fn + F11 to toggle the backlight on the keyboard.

  • HP Envy 17: Reverse the function keys

    Hey guys,.

My laptop is a very good laptop, with a good graphics card nvidia an i7 cpu and even 16 GB of ram. Even with a 17 inch screen full HD 1920 * 1080, making incredible games! Even GTA V for Pc works quite well on this laptop powerful.

All of these things are an amazing gaming PC, however, it has a match no one back which makes it almost impossible to play a game with good fluidity.

Present a defect of fatal game is actually the keyboard, but to be more precise, it is the function keys. The HP Envy 17 has two F1 - F12 and INSERT key. However, these are the secondary keys. Primary keys are keys system that changes the brightness or volume. That means if I want to use F2 in a game, I have to hold the function key, and then press F2.

This seems minor, but when you play, it can be annoying to have to hold down a function key just to use one of the F keys.

Dies, does anyone know how to get this fixed and reverse the trend, in this way if I want to cut my cell phone that I have to press the function, then the F6 key. I hope that people know what I mean and please if you know of a fix would be great if you could post it below.

    Thank you
    Connor Burnett.

    Hello

Yes, I used the F1 - F12 keys on a daily basis for the last 35 years or so, but fortunately I always use external keyboards using laptops (on or off a docking station). You may not share, but disable. Please use the following article:

I installed all the drivers and the pc is running, but the only problem is the function key.

    Hello

Please check if you can change the settings on the special function key mode in the BIOS.
Usually this option allows you to use the function keys without pressing the FN key.

Play with this setting and don t forget to save the changes to the BIOS.

Also ensure that the BIOS is already up-to-date and the VAP has been properly installed.

  • Toshiba Tecra A2 function keys active to make H = 6 h F = 4f P = space, etc.

I want to disable the function keys on this laptop, but I don't know how. I mean ive tried to delete all toshiba programs off the pc and does not work. Tried to get into the bios but have no idea what key bios is, ive tried all the default, but only brings me a start menu.

Anyway can someone let me know how to activate function keys would be much appreciated.

    Hello

To be honest I do not understand why you want to disable FN keys. For me, it is quite handy and makes use of the laptop more comfortable. In all cases solution given by Akuma is good and easy for you.

BIOS has nothing to with it, but to enter the BIOS settings on this notebook Tecra press the ESC key at startup to the top.

  • Function keys is not working

I have a laptop two months of j020dx m7 Touchsmart from HP Envy Windows 8.1 running old.  My problem is that the F1 through F12 function keys do not work.  Functions void such as the brightness of the screen, the volume of the speaker, WiFi, etc. work (without having to press the "fn" key).  But in programs that use the F1 - F12 function keys, that they do not work.  Pressing one keys activates the Sub-function all the time.  A possible solution to push the F10 or F2 key has produced this problem on this forum (don't remember who now) to enter the BIOS at startup settings.  Here, I should be able to enable or disable the feature keys.  But there is a catch 22 because pushing the F2 key at startup reduces the brightness of the screen which is what I call the Sub-function and not him F2 function.  I thought that the right way for the function keys work is to push F1 to F12 when it is asked in a program and when you want the Sub-function such as brightness, wifi on or off, dimming etc., press the "fn" key and the corresponding function key.  I noticed a Toshiba computer Windows 8 is the same thing.  What is a Windows problem or a hardware problem.  Anyway, what is the solution?

    Hello

No doubt your keys Fn is disabled on BIOS, try this link below on how to enable Fn keys:

Let me know if it works...

  • I need to disable all skills specific to HP function keys

    I have a HP Pavilion G7 - 2551dx with Windows 8.

I want to disable all the functions specific to the HP keyboard function key. -F1 to F12 functions.  I don't need or want Ttout of them and in fact, they are just shortcuts to make things I already do through other means. His airplane mode, brightness, etc - I don't want one of these functions mapped to my function keys.

How do I with this model?

I have a 3 year Compaq, and it was an application that gave the PC these functions. I could disable all these features to uninstall this application.  I can't find such an application on this computer Pavilion G7. Rather, these functions are software controlled, they are activated in another way. The specific features of the HP gets in my way, because I accidentialy press these keys by mistake. They get in the way of games and other applications that map with the function keys. I have to be able to completely disable these functions as I have in the past with my Compaq.

    How can I do this?

    The link above says this:

"On most of HP and Compaq computers laptops, it is necessary press the function (fn) key while pressing one of the f1 through f12 keys to activate the features by default; as for example increase or decrease the brightness of the screen, the sound volume, sleep, keyboard lock, etc... On computers laptops HP Envy and other laptops with Advanced BIOS, the function keys options can be configured so that it is not necessary to press and hold down the fn key. »

It worked for my problem BUT I almost didn't try because it is very misleading and very badly written.

You see, it has never been necessary for me to hold and press the Fn button to use the default function keys (so why would I need to use the option above as written - I wouldn't). This makes you only believe that it turns on or off the ability to use the function keys to use the Fn key in conjunction with the 1 to 12 function keys - and not the function keys do not work. That would have helped me.

In reality, what it does, is change the function of these keys depending on whether you use the Fn key at the same time with the 1 through 12 keys or not. It acts as a switch allowing only the multimedia type function keys work if you press the Fn key first. I had to tell him to use the Fn key in conjunction with the 1 through 12 keys. In this mode when the keys functioned are affected without using the Fn key, they act like normal multimedia type function keys, no.

(These types of key functions multimedia were introduced for multimedia keyboards a few years ago. They added extra functionality that I needed off. They were never the standard functions for the function keys on the keyboards. Recently, desktop computers and laptos started to add these functions to the keyboard by default.)

It's a good thing I played a bit with it to know because that is never written these things must be fired and replaced by someone who can explain all the s and outs of a much better task. It's very badly written garbage. It omits important information people need to know what actually makes the function under a permit and mobility.

    Thank you.
