  I saw your post and wanted to drop to answer you! The printer does not have a memory to print, some units will store a memory fax 30 days, but that's all. The factory reset you have already done on the front would be the reset I would have suggested to try for peace of mind.

  I used to have a printer Photosmart 4400 C that would allow me to scan to produce searchable PDF files, i.e. I could select letters or words in a text selection tool in my PDF reader.   Today, I just bought a DESIRE 4500 e-All-in-One-Series.  It will scan only text to give me a graphic PDF that is not searchable.  I've updated to the latest version of the EN4500_198.exe driver, but it does not help.

  No, the 4500 desire doesn't have any default OCR software, you will have to pay for the software and believe it or not, that the software is more expensive than the printer itself. You can buy the software or you can try to use some free software around:

  First time installation of HP Envy 4500 all-in-one happening on Mac with os x 10.9.4.  However I can't get the printer to work with cable. HP instructions were re - insert the CD and follow the instructions in the "reconfiguration without cable" However, this was not an option on the CD, he just tried to repeat the installation.

  Hi thanks for Jamieson, for getting back to me.  We have now resolved the issue - '' We '' being myself and mark of the HP support team.  I tried all methods mention you several times and uninstalled, re-installed updates 3 times on etc. before contacting the forum.
  Finally, we found that the software of the printer was responsible and don't not all parameters.   Mark used Remoting to clear the printer software and start again and now it works a treat.   On the negative side I lost 8 hours of my time, not wanting to not give up the printer when we realize now it was never going to work. On the rise, Mark has been absolutely fantastic to talk me through the process of correction and the end result is a satisfied customer.  I also subscribe to e-print, which will be extremely useful to me in my travels

  Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! I see that you are interested in the behavior of the mode "Eve" of your HP 4500th Envy, you must turn off the printer and turn it back on after entering mode 'sleep' to print. You'd like that wakes you up automatically when a print job is sent.

  Take a look at your User Guide on page 8, he States:

  Auto off is automatically enabled by default when you turn on the printer. When auto-off is activated,

  the printer turns off automatically after 2 hours of inactivity to help reduce energy consumption. Auto shut-off

  disables the printer completely, you must use the key to turn on the printer. For printer

  models with Ethernet network or wireless capabilities, automatic disconnection is automatically disabled when the

  printer makes a connection to the Ethernet or wireless. Even if automatic shutdown is disabled, the

  printer enters standby after 5 minutes of inactivity to help reduce energy consumption.

  You can change the automatic setting of the control panel.

  To change the auto-off setting

  1. in the start screen on the printer display, select Preferences.

  NOTE: If you do not see the home screen, press the Home button.

  2. in the Preferences menu, select automatic.

  3. in the automatic menu, select on or off and press OK to confirm the setting.

  Once you change the setting, the printer handles the setting.
