HP ENVY tilted 23-k000a Touch: terribly slow internet wifi after upgrade to win8.1 - ENVY tilted 23-k000a Touch

I bought a few weeks ago.

After upgrading to win8.1, I noticed the speed of internet was slow, I'm on a connection "Ultra-fast VDSL" yet all downloads by wireless are 15 to 25kbs max.

If I connect the cable to the modem and disconnect the wireless connection, I get 200 to 300 kbs as I should, but then my game of Ryan box can't find my computer, as soon as I reconnect wireless it can.

OK, maybe two questions here, but to start I would like to help to get the connection wireless operating at the speed it should.

Thank you, John

Maybe I should say kBs...

I have a HP Envy 15-j040us Notebook PC Touchsmart is currently using 8.1 64-bit windows.  I play 2 Farmville on Facebook.  I started having problems after installing Windows 8.1.  My mouse hesitates and reluctant game and I can barely move on the screen.  I am not real computer savy but can follow directions if you can just tell me what I need to do to correct this.  Everything on the screen is just very slow and the mouse does not seem to want to go where I'm pointing to it.

    Hello @aodom ,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I see that you have any questions, play Farmville 2 since the update to Windows 8.1.

First, update the drivers for your graphics (GPU) with the following download: driver Intel graphics high definition (HD).

Once you have done this, update Adobe Flash player plugin with the following download: Adobe - Flash Player

Once you have updated the GPU and the Flash Player, disable hardware acceleration for Flash on your laptop:

    1. Right click any where on the Farmville game once it has loaded.
    2. Select settings.
    3. Make sure that you are on the tab display/graph (see image below).
    4. Clear the check box to enable hardware acceleration if it is available. If you are prompted to activate the control of your webcam or microphone that these steps do not apply because the game is not trying to use the acceleration.

Let me know if it helps.

  • Usb3 slow after upgrade to win8

I ve just upgraded my Envy 15-3200 to win 8, and I noticed that my external hd usb3 is mutating very slow (20-30 MB/s).

I tried to look for a driver on the page driverdownload win8, but not luck. There is one for win7 so, but when I tried to install it, I got a messeage that it had compatibility problems.

    Any ideas?

Windows 8 has its own built in usb 3.0 drivers. This is why there is no usb 3.0 Windows 8 driver available for download. No need. We used to see something similar with Windows XP Service Pack 2. Previously, you had to load a supplement to usb 2.0 driver, and after that just let Windows control usb 2.0. Check in your device manager and see if you have the 'super speed' usb ports or listed Central. See also if the old usb 3.0 drivers got carried over as a program in the Add/Remove Programs list. If so, remove them. Then restart

You may need to uninstall the usb ports and hubs as devices and restart just to give the opportunity to load its drivers Windows 8.

  • Reference Dell E520 slow hard disk after upgrade Windows 7

I recently updated my vista 32 bit to win 7 32 bit e520.  It seems that the drive light is constantly and when you check the performance monitor, the disc rotates 100% for several minutes at a time.  This translates into apps open very slowly, copying the files is slow, etc...

I'm sure this is related to the SATA controller and its drivers.  I downloaded and installed later for this chipset but also downloaded the vista drivers... nothing works, nor seems to help.  Any suggestions?

The core of this question was just a bad hard drive I think.  I ran a few tests on the system evaluation and the drive was only writing to approx.  .30 MB/sec... Yes, that's right, less than a MB... I went and bought a new hardrive and everything is good.  I guess the performance against the win7 update was just a coincedence...

  • Slow IO performance after upgrade to vSphere 5

    Hi all

I have a problem in our lab environment and I type some other brains in the community .

First of all a brief overview:

    2 x Fujitsu RX300 S5 (FC HBA LP1150)

    1 x Fujitsu RX300 S6 (FC HBA LP1250)

    2 x Brocade 200E

    1 x Fujitsu Eternus DX90 (CF)

    1 x Fujtsu Siemens FibreCAT SX80 (CF)

All devices are running with 4 G FC.

Last week we updated our servers with the latest firmware (included HBA) and the latest vSphere 5 (updated 01 and the last patch-bundle). Everythings seems to run fine, after I've got svmotioned a few servers to get an empty data store. A few small servers (each. approximately 30 GB) need hours to get to the target data store. With CLI, I created a vmdk eagerzeroedthick to test the performance on our DX90. It took almost 10 minutes to create a 10 GB vmdk (about 17 MB / s; flow even showed DX90 performance monitor). I did the same on the FibreCAT and this storage is running normally with 170 MB per second.

Now lets get things I did to track down the cause:

    1. I connected directly the first server with the DX90 (to avoid the fc switch)-> problem still there
    2. I went down the HBA firmware to version previos-> problem still there
    3. I installed the 4.1 vSphere update 02. I put only the investigation period and did test of 10 GB-> problem disappeared. for 10 GB, it took 39 seconds which is nearly 300 MB per second
    4. I installed (new installation) of the first version of vSphere 5-> surprise, the problem here is once again
    5. I installed ESXi 4.1 (I tested again and it took again 39 seconds for a 10 GB vmdk) and upgraded to vSphere 5-> problem is still there
    6. I tried all the way air, Fujitsu drivers customized for Emulex HBA and LUN parameters

Writing performance monitor shows response time between 700 year 1400 ms and 17 MB per second with vSphere 5 to the DX90. With version 4, it is between 0 and 60 ms and nearly 300 MB per second. Only the SX80 works very well to any version (not support ALUA). Each unit works with the latest firmware.

It is without doubt vSphere 5, what causes the problem. I can't find clues in newspapers or VMware KB.

Does anyone have an idea or the same problem? If I can't find a solution in the coming days, I propose to prosecute.

    Thanks in advance

Hello 58elmer, you could try go to Control Panel Power Options, Information of Performance tools and select it in the top left of the screen, change when the computer sleeps. Put forever.

Then select choose when turn off the display. Indicate what ever.

Then to close these windows, and on the desktop, right-click on the desktop and a menu will appear which shows a screen saver. Click on the screen saver and select None.

All these parameters will keep your locking system and can allow you to run the speed test and also to use the tool captures Windows 7, which can be accessed at the beginning, all programs, accessories, Snipping Tool.

  • Muse 2015.2 work terribly slow

    Hello!

This is my second post today, while I solved my first problem, this is bugging me for a while now. I use Muse a lot, I design themes of muse and Web sites for the company that I work. Recently, I switched to an iMac 27 "a lot more low spec PC. I thought that it would speed up the process and I can design Web sites for the FHD screens. But the first time I run Muse on iMac, it worked terribly slow. Even slower than before on the Windows PC. I looked at this issue and some suggested that Muse is not optimized to use the high resolution. So, I stopped using it full-screen, what actually makes a difference. Everything is lag if I use Muse to full screen, but not if I do smaller. The more I do, smooth, it works. But still doesn't work, it is slow as the iMac is powerful enough to manipulate Muse.

Now I feel another kind of slow. A page with just a single image and text takes a long time (at least 3 minutes) to refresh. The file of Muse is just 42 MB in size with 17 pages and only 54 images in total. I also have another problem. Muse does not connect with the FTP server. There is no error when trying to connect, the guard just icon spinning. Please help me to solve the problems.

    Thank you!

You seem to have several problems with Muse, and it seems that they are not related.

  • Terrible slow short captured SBS2003. I really mean sloooooooooow

Recently, I captured a SBS2003 for testing purposes. The vmdk files are 67 GB and 256 GB in size and are stored on a USB3.0 HDD (2 TB)

    I run the VMworkstation on Win7x64 8 GB Ram-8core-Intel7.

The SBS is configured as 1 processor, 2-wire, 2 GB of RAM, I unplugged all the serial ports and set a new virtual network.

Whan I start the machine takes so long, graphic move terrible slow and twangy, locking even my mouse to him take a long time. I can't work like this. Any hint why this happens? Is the size of the disk for the virtual machine too?

    How do "capture you" SBS2003?

    Windows uses the correct HAL?

There is no problem with the sizes of virtual disk, but the 2 TB USB drive is probably you slow down here.

  • Web server on ESXi terribly slow! same fee install works uber quickly on a single physical server.

I have created a virtual machine and allocated 4gig of RAM, 2 cpu and no limit on the CPU usage.

Freshly installed Centos5 and LAMP. Installed joomla with default content.

Browsing the site is TERRIBLY slow... I'm talking molassas.

Now, until people start blaming joomla, I had exactly the same fees installed on a physical server with less specs (only 1 GB of ram and 1 cpu) and it is lightning fast.

Both are on the exact same network. And the ESXi server has only a current PBX VM to run other then the Web server. I have hordes of resources left and available on the ESXi server.

I can not quite understand what the problem is or could be. She has available resources and doesn't have 1 million waiting to go through the server process. My Network (2) cards are defined in tandum (I guess that the combination of network cards?) this should not be a problem?

It's just the way the esxi manages the inbound and outbound traffic? Is this normal? The only thing I can reduce to is 1) the esxi way itself works. (2) the esxi way treats my network cards and or traffic

What are the specifications of the ESX Server - hardware and CPU? Are there other virtual machines running on ESX Server? Have you tried running with one virtual CPU virtual machine?  It is advisable to start with a single vCPU and add vCPUs only if it is necessary, or if you have empirical evidence that it is necessary - it has to do with how the virtual processors are programmed.

  • New machine install, terribly slow response

I hope someone can shed some light here, I recently built a new NLE for CS5.5 and the thing incredibly slow to load, encode or even responding to an export order.

A few specs on the new machine:

Dual Xeon 3.47 GHz 6 core CPU, total 12 hearts, in total 24 logical cores

Supermicro X8DTL motherboard, intel 5500 chipset

Registered 24GO RAM in triple channel mode

Win7 Pro 64 bit with all updates

    Matrox MXO2 capture/playback

NVIDIA GTX 580 4 GB video card

Intel LSI MegaRaid SATA raid controller

Matrix RAID 5 7TB on the RAID card

Installed software is 5.5 CS suite, Avira anti virus and the Firefox web browser.  In addition, it is a clean installation

    Now for my problems.

First usually takes about 2 minutes to load from the desktop and is slow to respond after that.  I loaded a second HD 40 consisting of 2 video clips XDCAM HD timeline and a piece of stereo music.  When I export this simple timeline it takes 3 minutes for encoding options to appear, and then once I selected BluRay HD for the screening and the queue, it takes 3 minutes before the launch of Media Encoder.  At the time I write this Media Encoder has been coding for 30 minutes and it is only about 50% done with this second 40 timeline.  For comparison, my old laptop dual core with its unique internal drive takes about 30 seconds to launch the first (CS4 in it's case) and it encodes the same timeline in 4 minutes approximately.

Something is very wrong here; I hope it is something simple like a bad setting.  The computer itself seems to work very well, and index Windows benchmarks 7.8 outside a C drive slower, to settle at 6.  All material of the project is on the RAID and the programs and the BONES are on the C drive.  Someone at - it ideas?  I'll have to get started on a great project soon and I can't imagine doing on this machine as it is.

    Scott Cooper

    Seehorse video

Well, I'm getting there with the support of Matrox.  The horribly slow response seems to be largely corrected by disabling the sound surround in the encoder as detailed here:

"If you find that the switching export format in the export settings dialog box.
box sometimes takes a lot of time, such that when you switch from Microsoft
AVI in MPEG2-DVD, rename the SurCodeWrapper.vca file on your system
(for example, rename the SurCodeWrapper.vca.bak file). This file is
usually installed by Adobe Premiere Pro in the following folders:
    $ Files\Adobe\Adobe first Pro CS5\MediaIO\codecs\
    $ Files\Adobe\Adobe Media encode CS5\MediaIO\codecs\
Be aware that after you rename the SurCodeWrapper.vca file, you will not be able
to export the audio SwCode Dolby Digital, but you will still be able to export
    Audio Dolby. (Ref # 55279 and Adobe Ref # 2603943) ».

Fortunately, I didn't need a surround sound, I'm not really thrilled to have to eliminate option however.  I still have a few other questions; I hope that I will get to the bottom of them as well.  Oh, I found MAJOR problems with the latest Nvidia drivers, causing a complete corruption of the video screens.  Roll back to version 280.26 solved these problems.

  • SOLVED: Slow wireless internet passthrough after firmware update

If I first bought a Nighthawk in July 2014 and it was great for a while. Then in the notice happened a few months my streaming services are jumping and more than usual buffering (which was almost never with the Nighthawk).

I have a connection of 110Mbps (Comcast and through a SB6141 modem), but all of a sudden was only getting 10 Mbps (or less) passthrough on 5 G wireless band (at the beginning of the speed test would sometimes up to 50 Mbit/s, but on a few seconds would fall to nothing..)

Cable speeds were very good. Always 110Mbps +. Tried several different channels and factory reset the router, wireless speed was still slow. Connected to the Netgear website and submitted a support ticket within 2 hours they sent me with an RMA number and the next day a new unit has been FedEx would be for me. Support rep Tech says it's a problem of material known in some units... I was super impressed with the customer service, it was seriously a no replacement of hassles that took every 15 minutes of my time.

EXCEPT when I got the replacement router in the next few days, he had the SAME PROBLEM. As soon as the new router is on and I'm connected, I've upgraded to the latest version of the firmware, done a factory reset and down Speedtest. And I had the same problem: speed internet passthrough on all my wireless devices has been terrible. Less than 10 Mbps when I have a connection 110 + Mbps. (Wired speeds were great, it was not a problem of modem or provider).

Again contacted support and they asked me to download the latest firmware on laptop and upgrade the router manually, do a factory reset before and after the upgrade. They also told me to try to disable WMM (made no difference speed passthrough, but lower my laptop connection between 433Mbps to 54Mbps speed!).

I tried this... still slow passthough wireless speed.

The only thing that has changed since I first got a Nighthawk in July 2014 (and I've run speedtests then and had a speed 110 wireless + Mbit/s at the time), is that the firmware has updated several times... makes me think...

I downloaded the Netgear support the past 5 versions of the firmware for the Nighthawk. http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/product/R7000#sear...

I then manually downgraded the Nighthawk to each previous version (do a factory reset before and after each installation) and ran Speedtest every time. Once I have got down to the R7000 Version - V1.0.3.24_1.1.20 (released 12/02/14) and ran a Speedtest, the PROBLEM has BEEN RESOLVED. Speed wireless devices (laptop, HTC a M7 and iPad Air 2) were all back up to 110Mbps or more!

Hope this experience helps someone else... If your are affected by the passthrough slow internet speeds and it is not your connection speed (i.e. radio parasites) that is the question, there seems to be a serious problem with the latest latest versions of couple... Try downgrading to the R7000 firmware version - V1.0.3.24_1.1.20

UPDATE: Yes, I actually tested the speed with several different devices (a laptop HP HTC a M7 and Nexus 9) each on 5G band, all compatible with the latest updates ac. I also used a few test sites of different speed (speedtest.net, comcast speedtest, cnet speed test), not had the same result all devices and hosts.

However, I actually got in touch with Netgear L2 support for the last month... beta test a few different versions of the firmware of the Nighthawk and even spend more than an hour on the phone one night with a nice guy who told me he was on an island in Southeast Asia, part of the Philippines... This is where Netgear technical support is to halfway between China where they build them and Taiwan where engineers are. After trying all tweak he could think for an hour and not get better speeds wireless, he finally dropped out and wished me a Merry Christmas lol. Not one of these beta firmware made a bit of difference, and I hate the hours that they made me screwing around with them!

    BUT today, they released vR7000 - V1.0.4.14_1.1.50 http://support.netgear.com/product/r7000

And to my surprise it actually worked! Not only my high speed wireless is returned (120 + Mbps)

    http://www.Speedtest.NET/my-result/4078979293 (laptop)
    http://www.Speedtest.NET/my-result/a/1131321713 (nexus 9)
    http://www.Speedtest.NET/my-result/a/1131332778 (htc a m7)

but also my Seagate SRD0SD0 previously incompatible (3 TB) USB 3.0 external hard drive works now, too. What a bonus! The reason I bought the Nighthawk was to use as Server DLNA and the monster external HD I picked up 6 months ago only was on the long list of those incompatible with this capricious router.

But now everything works (at least for now).

P.S. Maybe it's in my head, but I swear to you that since the last firmware update when running speedtest now or file transfer (while heavy streaming) I can hear the router doing a greater slope electric buzzing/hissing noise is a little disconcerting... I'm not sure my brain fried by overclocked wifi will be worth a high speed in the end...: eek:

  • Internet slow after upgrade to 8.1

I upgraded the OS on my laptop dv-7-7240 HP Envy today from 8 to 8.1 Windows (64-bit), which included 11 Explorer. He went pretty much as expected and everything worked fine except my speed of web slowed to a crawl.    I have disabled all add-ons and reset the Explorer, but that did not help.  Note: I was living slow internet (I'm on cable, by the way) and some other questions that I could not resolved, the main reason I upgraded to 8.1. It resoloved all issues except for the slow internet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yes, the problem started then on Windows 8 and continued after the upgrade to Windows 8.1. However, I have since solved the problem, but I'm a little embarrassed to tell how.  After going around the world to try to solve this problem, the solution was right in front of me all the time... the stupid cable modem.  Finally, I noticed that the light on my modem (which is quite old, by the way), were flashes more quickly than they normally.  A call to technical support to my cable company confirmed that I probably have a defective modem. So, I installed a modem new, thinner, and now I am again crusing the net like a champ. The lesson: If your modem is more than five years, beware; they do not last forever. Lesson learned!

    Thank you!

  • W7 Ent. SP1 x 64 clean install on the new PC - very slow to load after reboot during installation

    Hi all

I'm busy to install W7 Ent. SP1 x 64 on two computers for a small organization non-profit of my friends, all the similar Assembly (motherboard: ASRock H81M-VG4, CPU: Intel Celeron G1840, transcend SSD). The first PC went perfectly, no problems with the installation at all. Now, I installed the second, but unfortunately the following happens:

After restarting the installation, was asked to enter the name of the computer normally, and then to set up a password. When I clicked on next (and leaving the word password empty) the whole process seems to freeze a little, and then after a few minutes, I could choose settings updates, after which everything slowed even further. "Finalizing settings" took about three quarters of an hour. Once this done, all slowed even more, and it now displays a black screen telling me that this is not a genuine copy of Windows (had no chance to fill in the key product of course) and after about half an hour he is now "configuration of settings customized for xxxx".

-EDIT - Windows has begin once (between my opening message and my second post), and it was terribly slow in everything that (like several minutes before opening anything). I installed the LAN driver with the idea of updating all the drivers, but after a reboot it is so late it now already taken 10 minutes to boot Windows (and is suspended in the Welcome screen again).

I've done an another clean install after using DISKPART to format the SSD, but the same thing is happening again once unfortunately. I installed on a USB bootable, I used to install two other computers as well (one before this one and the other afterwards), and everything is fine with those. Swapping the RAM module for a good known has not changed the situation.

All comments are welcomed, appreciated, thanks.

All other essential drivers have been installed: video, Chipset?

Try the SSD at the other system and see how it starts in the system causes problems.

Also try the SSD with the painful installation in this computer to see if the problem persists.

Could contribute to isolate if the SSD.
