  If your machine is producing a hex code halt, this would indicate that it is a newer bios FRIEND, in this case, you have only two options for the moment.

  1. contact HP and see if they can help with an unlock code - start here.

  2. it would seem that the hash is not stored in NVRAM and that remove the cmos cell, hold down the power button for a minute, then leave it for a few hours before reassembling actually clears the password - the bad news if you want to try it is that the cell is on the wrong side of the system board - see Page 127 of your & Maintenance Guide.

  You don't mention which operating system you use, but if you normally sign - on with an email and password (Windows 8, 8.1 & 10), see if you can reset the password via another PC from the Microsoft page on the following link.

  Otherwise, there is a general policy on the Forum do not provide methods to bypass the Windows log-on passwords, but a local computer store would be able to do it for you.

  Another option, if all your personal data, etc. is saved, would be to reset the laptop to his "factory Condition" and then set it upwards from the beginning - if you do not have your recovery media, your laptop are shipped with a recovery Partition which is accessible at the start - that is to say stop the laptop, then start typing away at f11 as soon as you turn on.

  Hi I stupidly put a BIOS password on my laptop of ea HP DV8 1250, a couple of years ago, and now I don't remember what I put too (what a fool!).

  I want to install a new copy of windows 7, but can't because I locked the BIOS and therefore cannot boot from the CD.
