  As it appears, you can have multiple OS files damaged, probably the best solution is to reinstall.  Before you try the following, make sure to back up all your personal files etc.

  I realize that you do not have your recovery media, but you should still be able to reinstall the operating system from the hard disk recovery Partition.  You can try this as follows.

  Dear Brigitte, it was one of those anomalies that solve themselves.  After trying several times, I found the pad of numbers worked so I replugged it it after that I received the error message.  Second time around, it works fine.  JC

  My friend has an old laptop. She uses it to much except e-mail, navigation of base and Netflix. Even if its an old computer, it seems very slow for me. Here are the specs: Dell INSPIRON1100 Celeron CPU 2.20 GHz. 224 MB of RAM MS Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3. A C. NTFS drive. Total area is 27.7 Gb. = 14.8 GB free space. Other statistics: since the Manager task performance (after a start cold with no loaded application) monitor commit Charge Total 150360 limited 556276 pic 284296 network Local area connectivity 100 Mbps (Comcast in connection with cable to the router Comcast) to start cold (completely died), it takes apx. 2 minutes to start until I hear the Windows chime. Once the base system begins, launching applications is very slow. For example, right after you start with nothing else loading it takes apx. 22 seconds to start Firefox, then check out the homepage. This may be because of the speed of the Internet (which is good see above) because the home page is a very small local file on your hard drive. Its a file with no graphics at all, only four links (e-mail, google, page news and Netflix). After Firefox starts when I click Netflix it takes apx. 20 seconds for the home screen to come and be usable. (These times are however from a freshly toed machine) When I click on a movie it takes apx. 30 seconds just for me getting the red Netflix screen which indicates the film is start and apx. 1 minute for the movie to start. It's actually not too bad, but once the computer has been used for a while, it may take much longer. Its also very little reliable. It crashes a LOT and she in turn off the computer at least once every night or she will end up hanging. Sometimes, it crashes even when during the day and must be restarted. • Windows XP Pro SP3 slow navigation and performance of the Internet network

  I am running a Windows SBS 2008 domain with 70 clients - many of which are Windows 7 Pro (and not affected by performance problems) and other clients are Windows XP Pro.  Recently, apply 2 updates to all Windows XP clients to a problem of double authentication with RDP Server 2008 platform - two updates are http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969084 (install the RDC 7.0 client upgrade) and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951608 (adds the registry entry in Windows XP to enable CredSSP).  Now, the patches of handsets allow RDP clients to Server 2008 platform and enter the credentials of the user only once.

  However, given that these updates have been applied, about 7 of 20 Windows XP clients are extremely slow performance when searching for network resources (sharing drives, Outlook / MS Exchange and Internet browsing synchronization).  Not sure if the 2 patches are coincedental or related.  I tried rewriting changes from two patches, drivers NETWORK card and even tried to replace the NETWORK adapter with new ones.  No change in performance.

  However, can I uninstall / reboot / reinstall the Client of Microsoft Networks and clients perform as expected.  Over time (sometimes), the problem reappears.  I have been through the event logs and don't see any errors that indicate a failure to communicate on the network.  All clients receive assignments IP from the DHCP server and updates are managed via WSUS.

  Ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The partition recovery seems to have disappeared as well as the Recovery Manager and pressing F11 will start not the Panel of system recovery, or anything like that. I don't have the recovery disks for my laptop because I can not access the recovery partition or whatsover ay.

  Just download the file .iso Windows 7 from the microsoft Web site? I still have the product key and all. My question is if I reinstall Win 7 I will return the recovery again partition? Do I need other HP stuff or just win7 will do?

  You will not get the recovery partition if you are installing Windows 7 from a downloaded image - recovery only at HP media would recreate this - see the following link.

  If you want to use a Windows 7 Image download to reinstall the operating system, do not forget that you must use the correct version, for example, if your laptop comes with Windows 7 Home Premium, it is the image, you will need to use - that is, you cannot use this method to upgrade (or downgrade) the Windows version originally supplied with your laptop as your activation key will not work.
