  • Pavilion dv6 laptop: no password required after waking from Hibernate

If I don't lock my PC screen until I put in Hibernate my laptop PC is not locked after that I turn next time. If I lock the PC screen, until I put in Hibernate the PC the PC screen is locked after I turn on.

I do not change the settings of power and was always lock screen after hibernate / wake up when I got the original OS from Windows 7.

Everyone knows about this problem? I need to always remember to lock my PC before hibernation. If I forgot the other people can turn on my PC and access without password.

Like the cable company, I want to make sure that we try the easy things first.

Have you gone in the Power Options and reset the parameters of the plan?

Menu start - settings - system - power & Sleep - click additional settings of power

It will open the old control panel with different plans.

Regularly Windows 10 will have two plans showing and sometimes a third-party "show additional plans.

Balanced, high performance and energy savings.

If you have selected one of them, you can try one or switch to another plan, or click on change Plan settings, and then click default settings.  Balanced, it is usually the best setting.

You also have extra power setting in here, a custom one created by software or by a Director of company.  A plan of software that has been designed to work with Win7 may not work with Win10.  Better is to put in place a standard plan.  But some plans of software will take it back.  If this happens (you close out and then reopen) you will find the software in the applications and features of settings part and then uninstall it.

There is an easy solution.  If this does not work, we want to check your device manager and see if you have all the devices with a yellow or red fringe which might not be installed correctly.  Maybe a generic video driver.

BrightHouse over the last two weeks came out and replaced all the cables on the House, the street and poles near home. Replaced twice modem (Motorola, only an Arris, now a huge Ubee modem. Thinking it was my four year old and put DLink upgraded router to a Linksys AC1600 model +. I even spent two days and six hours on the phone with supervisiors to Brighthouse trying different things. Nobody seems to know what to do. When I bought this laptop that is Windows 8... and has been finally updated to 8.1.

    BUT...

    2. open the NETWORK CARDS
    3. right click on the WiFi adapter for the pc and left click on PROPERTIES
    4. click on POWER up.
    5. remove the check mark beside : ALLOW the COMPUTER TO TURN THIS DEVICE SAVE START STOP

  • Pavilion 15 laptop: problems with stop and "standby" mode.

I upgraded from windows 8.1 for windows 64 bit home 10. I had problems with stop and goes into sleep mode and cannot be resolved, then I reinstalled windows 10. Everything worked fine for a few moments, and then the same problem reappeared. I can't stop or put my PC into sleep mode, unless I have first of all to make a restart. After a reboot, I am able to stop or go to sleep mode without problem. If I try to do either without a restart, the screen goes black and the indicator light remains lit. The only way I can get it to start then press on and hold the power button and force a shutdown down, then press the power button to restart the upward. I have another PC, a wafer think that Lenovox has been upgraded to windows Windows 7 10. This PC work fine with windows 10, no problem at all. It's just the HP Pavilion 15 who has these questions. It makes me crazy.

It is not possible to connect to the computer without entering the username and password...

You can create a new user account and leave the section blank password... in this case it will not lead to enter the password.

  • HP Pavilion 15 laptop n011TX: Repair Disk Errors. This could take over an hour to complete.

    Hello!
I have a laptop HP Pavilion 15 n011TX. I use windows 10. I use the laptop for more than two years now. Recently, he began to get 100% usage of the drive and the laptop started to freeze and trolling. So, I decided to fix it myself by watching videos and forums. I stopped and disabled some services (BITS, Superftech, Windows Search, Prefetch). It worked fine for awhile, but the trunk started to slow down a lot.

I tried a few other corrections on the internet but nothing worked! Now the computer does not even start. He just asks me to enter my username and password. And then, after 10 minutes of loading, it starts to "fix disk errors. "It could take more than an hour to finish".

I let do that for more than six hours, and then I restarted my computer (after frustrated!) and the same thing started again. Please tell me how to solve this problem!

    Thanks in advance!

  • Replacement of the frame and hinges - HP Pavilion dm4 laptop

I have a HP Pavilion dm4 laptop of 2.5 years. The first hinged on both sides broke that makes it harder for the laptop to close properly and now the frame is breaking apart. Is there a way I can get/buy replacements before other parts are screwed up.

    Thank you

Yes, I also have this problem (dm4-1050ea).

It all started on February 2015, when my aunt noticedv that my laptop was nt close properly.  It could be be made to do by pressing half upper (screen cut) to the front to the rear of the closure.

The hinges then becomes deective that the screen don't would not SOUPLESE nd would not sit just to the place (angle) you open to.

Following the hinges too stiff beame to exploit, came shortly after the left of the screen/lid and the window broke near the LH hinge (rather than though the bezel as shown in the image above). Then the right hinge broke off, then the screen become deective (mainly a band along the LHS - worked with detached hinges OK))

So, I find myself with computer work, not 100% functional & broken and needs special care to use. the screen does not work in all areas (a replacement looks like £30-$50), with the virtually hanging screen, need to rplace lying hinges (£10-$15) and also nees any other bits (?) and the knowledge to fix it.  HP say they can't stand any more of this model and have no theparts (from end of 2015).

It may be beyond the capacity of an almighty ccompany such as HP to find parts, but it does not seem beyond the my ability to get parts of - maybe-2nd hand - other HP broke! - But what I lak is kno detailed ho a skill to perform any repair.

  • HP Pavilion 15 laptop: color is washed out and the type is blurry

The color on my HP Pavilion 15 laptop appears washed out. In addition, despite trying several settings on the 'clear type', my type seems to be blurry nd hard to read. I already tried to adjust the color on the advanced settings, nothing helped. For example, if there is a box around this area to post, I don't see it. I am really frustrated and ready to return after having fought with him for more than a month.

After hours of frustration and try to understand what was wrong. It turns out that when the power settings have been adjusted for energy efficiency, it messed with the color settings and text. I put everything by default and which corrects the problem.

  • Pavilion dv6: computer HP pavilion laptop does not start and I do not see the screen because it's broken

I have the HP pavilion computer laptop windows 7 and I broke the screen about a year, I can't see the start menus. I have been using an external monitor and it has always worked well, but now I can't see how to fix my computer to boot.  I did a hard boot but nothing happened, and with a broken screen, I can't see any of my options on how to fix it.  It does not start.  Looks like it is, but because I don't see the menu F8 or Boot, I can't call themselves that the screen can be done.  Help, please.

    Hello @SPKaler,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums, I would like to draw your attention to the HP Forums Guide first time here? Learn how to publish and more.

I read your post on the issue with the laptop won't start does not and wanted to help you!  I understand that the screen is damaged and you are using the external monitor to view the screen.  However, now that the laptop does not start, you can see is more of the external screen to see what is happening.

From my understanding, you should not be able to see an image on the external monitor, until you start the operating system.  You can try to perform a system restore by using this document:

HP computers - performing a recovery of system HP (Windows 7)

You may be able to follow along, long enough until the image is displayed on the external monitor.  Otherwise, you can contact HP support by phone, for additional options.

  • HP Pavilion 17 Laptop: SP72853: updated Diagnostics hardware UEFI and Dual boot

On my HP Pavilion 17 laptop, I have a sollution to dual-boot Microsoft Windows 10 (upgrade to 8.1 pre-installed) and Debian Linux 8.

In order to start Debian (my main system of fact), I disabled the feature of 'safe start' UEFI. Ago, there was news that Microsoft's UEFI specification had changed and that its previous policy of mandatory "turn off secure boot UEFI" was now an option "enable disabling secure boot UEFI.

In other words, if I understand it, BIOS/UEFI firmware designed after that Microsoft's policy change can now either you allow to disable secure boot UEFI and allow you to use an alternative OS, such as Debian Linux or they can force UEFI secure boot on you and in this case, you cannot start a system like Debian...

Thus, with regard to the update UEFI available for my system, SP72853, before installing... I can always disable UEFI secure boot with this update?

Also, I noticed there is an even more recent update for my UEFI, which I assume that I will be offered to install once SP72853 has been installed. Thus, the same question about SP73263: I can always disable UEFI secure boot with this update of UEFI?

OK, so I advanced and tested myself.

First of all, I saved a copy of the previous update of the UEFI (SP72230), so I could go down to him if necessary.

So I just installed the update through HP Support Assistant, and indeed I can always choose to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS setup and boot Linux very well.

    Just for info.

EDIT: The latest update did not become an option available on HP Support Assistant now. The diagnostics UEFI version number is however one of the (5.9.0) SP72853 not the most recent one (5.9.1).
