HP Pavilion 17: Fax Modem internal not detected

Spent too much time on this problem.  Win Fax & Scan does not detect the fax. Control Panel says Microsoft fax in the queue of root "works properly."  So changed original FXST30.dll, apparently to fix this 8.1 do not recognize the external modem. This does not solve the problem of detection. So the question is now: HP Pavilion 17 still has a built-in fax modem? And if so, why not Win Fax & scanning not detect.

Any suggestion would be appreciated!

Hello

N ° normal laptops now have fax & modem. You can find fax & modem on machines older or on machines of the company. Moreover, what is your Pavilion 17? Please follow the instructions below to find the product/model of your machine:

  • Fax modem internal Windows XP Home

I use the internal fax, since I installed XP several years ago.  Never a problem.  Today I went to fax and it's no longer works.  I thought I would uninstall and reinstall but when I go to Device Manager, Modem is not yet listed.  The list is long of the mouse on the screen.  I never noticed before, but just thought that Modem is numbered.

Is there a way to fix this (reload the driver?)?  I see you modem separately listed in Device Manager, and since I did not, how can I fix that?

  • Pavilion G6 fax modem

I have a HP Pavilion G6 running Windows 7 Home and found out today only, when I tried to set up Microsoft Fax, that it does not include a built-in modem.

Controls on the Internet show that some people had problems trying to hook external modems to their Windows 7 PC.

I have a DSL line with a splitter, one of the two cables running on my DSL modem and the other to my phone and my laptop connects to the DSL modem.

    1. what type of external modem should I buy, and it will work with my ADSL line?

    2. If so, I just plug the modem fax USB on my laptop and plug the cable of the fax on my DSL modem modem?

    Thank you.

It seems that you must have a modem and have a few questions.

    1. what type of external modem should I buy, and it will work with my ADSL line?
The standard for external models, fax modem included, V.92. Any V.92 modem should work for what you need. Modems and faxing using a telephone line have been around for a while and have been standardized for most. I doubt that there will be changes to standards or material at this point.

    2. If so, I just plug the modem fax USB on my laptop and plug the cable of the fax on my DSL modem modem?
DSL will require a filter to make it work. A fax and dial-up Internet, is essentially a call made by computers. The same equipment to establish a telephone conversation is necessary for dial-up modems work. Essentially, it will be treated as another phone at home.

I was able to locate a USB modem on HP website. The product page doesn't list fax specifically, but any V.92 modem should be compatible with faxing.

    Hello

In my opinion, there is hardware failure. The best way is to contact the Service of your country partner. They allow to check the unit. For the moment, you can try using an external modem. I don't know that one of your friends can borrow you a.

Visit the Toshiba page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com. Click Download & support and you will find a link to the list of service partners.

  • Pavilion 15-p080ca hard drive not detected in Win8, 03F1 0021 03F0 Bios errors, impossible to recover

    Hello

I bought a new laptop from Windows 8 15-p080ca tigerdirect.ca Pavilion and he received a couple of days.

The computer restarts randomly when working on it, I remember reading an IO error message in a popup windows.

Since then, he constantly reboot, tries to load windows, fails and restarts until the auto repair is involved.

Journal of the system BIOS has to many warnings and error: 03F0, 03F1, 0021.  I had about 3 times a hard drive not found error on POST.

I can't repair the installation either by partition recovery or recovery discs, I get "the disc is locked error" or "auto repair could not fix your pc.

Also Manager of recovery can not find the recovery partition.

On the command prompt diskpart list disk;  "There is no fixed disk to show.

However, the live cd Ubuntu and xp Mini are able to see all the partitions, view files and read them, a quick HDtune read test indicates no disk error.

The computer is able to read disk hard since I am able to get on the recovery and windows tries to load until I get "your pc ran into a problem that he couldn't handle and must be restarted.

HP PC Hardware diagnostic SMART test, short DST returns warning.  Diagnostic test of smart HP returned message 'no hard drive installed' only once.

Whatever it is that the base Windows 8, if the recovery disc, original media is not able to see the hard drive.

I tried to boot the recovery disc, the recovery partition with each combination of Legacy support and secure start to recover partitions without success because the hard drive is not detected (from diskpart list disk command).  The recovery DVDs, I get an error 0xefffff08. I also tried to remove the thought of recovery partition that he might want to move things faster.

Well, after many hours of research and testing, I think I tried everything I could do and would need support for additional testing or replacement of the defective material.

Thank you very much in advance for your help,.

    Jonathan.

Contacted HP Support, laptop, go to the repair center.  Probably the location of the hard drive to the motherboard as they said.

Help, please... It's driving me crazy...

    Thank you

    Hey Midsyork,

Looks like you run Digital Persona SimplePass flavor.

Two things to try, in order:

    • Hard reset
    • Remove and reinstall the validity sensor driver

    Hard Reset:

Sometimes, all you need to do is the computer suddenly.  This method works for a variety of connection and "glued" program issues.

    • Disconnect all the external devices first.
    • Remove the AC power and battery
    • Press and hold the power button while in the minus 30 seconds
    • Reinstall the power supply for the first start only * see Note
    • Power on - connect
    • Next time you shut down the system, replace the battery.

    * Note: You can ignore the little battery aside.  If you wish, replace the battery the first time and do it with her.

    Check the software...

If it still does not work, go ahead.

    • Control Panel > Device Manager > biometric devices > Validity Sensor > uninstall > delete
    • Reboot ...

    Validity Sensor V2.1.0.2

    • Install the validitysensorDriverinstallationpackage: it if called sp*.exe - the package will be most likely located in the downloads folder.  If you have control of "Admin", you can highlight the package and "double-click on ' to install it, otherwise just right-click, select"Run as Administrator"and install.

This can kick things hard enough to restore the Digital Persona software.  You can hit him harder, but first...

    ======================================================================================

    What about the rest...

You could consider running a full system scan.  I'm a demon for this.  I like a healthy file system.  It cannot solve the problem, but it will ensure that the issue is not a messed up system files, which CAN cause all sorts of unpleasant and troubled issues.  You do not really have to 'look' like a mother hen during analysis, look at the logs or 'DO' something.  He's going to take care of yourself and try to fix what it can.  The only time where that must involve it is things do not go well...  Is there a doc to help at the end to tell you what does this thing.  It is not harmful and, unless your system is broken, and it's going to die anyway, it will only make things better than they are now.

    scannow SFC

Analyze and fix the system.  The sfc/scannow command. who will do - it will scan the operating system, looking for corrupted files and inconsistencies; He will replace or repair everything he can.  If it finds corrupted programs or libraries, it will try to correct them.

    • Start menu > all programs > Accessories > right click on guest > select ' run as administrator'
    • In the command prompt window, type (or copy / paste) sfc/scannow , and then press enter.

(Note the space between sfc and the ' / '.)

The sfc scan will report its findings and you can look at the results:

    • Open an command prompt (it doesn't have to be as an administrator):
    • Use the command copy to create a copy of file readable by the output:

    %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log copy %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt

If "scannow" does not properly complete, try running:

    SFC /verifyonly

Copy the results to a text file, extract the output file in Notepad and look for errors that could not fix the full scan.

Help file for the System FIsland Checker command:

The Windows Vista or Windows 7 System File Checker tool
