  Last March, I bought a Hp Pavilion n211dx-15 and 9 months after I bought it, I had some problems with the RAM because of my eletricity, but I already bought a new pair of ram sticks.   Bought a desktop Pavilion 500 computer last week.  Kind of disappointed with the documentation that comes with it, also disappointed with the documentaion on this site, just seems to have two manuals supplied with the computer, PDF files (but, maybe I'm not looking in the right place).  Nothing in the documentation provided with your computer that shows what the computer looks like inside, no info at all on the update of the computer (adding another hard drive - what memory?).  I open the computer and take a look to see what is inside, but the manual says that if I open the computer and break the security seal I certify that the computer was working properly until I tried to upgrade the computer, and if the security seal is broken it could screw up my warranty.  I think there must be space for another hard drive, but who knows.  I would like to install the IDE of my old computer hard disk, do not know if this is possible.  I know I can get a disk enclosure and connect it to a USB port, but prefer to install the drive in the computer (may be screwing up the warranty...).  If an IDE drive may not be installed on the computer, as it is, maybe some sort of a SATA to IDE adapter or card would work.  Anyone have any ideas?

  Yes replacing the hard drive would solve the problem. You can use any hard drive laptop 2.5 inch SATA; they are the industry standard. All hard drives are compatible SMART and not having CHIP would be like having a car with no lights on dash oil pressure. You can remain in blissful ignorance while the parties fail around you and do you more damage as you keep rolling.

  Long story short, OS could not start windows with a missing BOOTMGR message, recovery disc, not work, ordered new HP recovery disks.  To cover, I ordered a new hard drive to replace it, with the same characteristics but a 1 Toshiba to.

  OK, installed the hard drive and used recovery disks at HP, but when you restart always get BOOTMGR missing error message.  Make a new recovery disk for windows 7 64 bit internet and serious on a bootable CD.  It starts, but found recovery does not list an OS system on hard drive.   Did the hard restart more once, install hardrive checked again, the cables and connections.  Took another installation of the HP recovery discs and also led a bootable disc that was to fix the problems with installing a new HHD and activation of the HHD working properly. Working always nothing. Get the same message.  Cast recovery manager got into the prompt orders and done a repair of the bootrec nothing / new. Checked the directory and found at the bottom of the list that it lists zero OS System.  So, how can I get my hard drive formatted to accept the installation of the OS? Any ideas to try, I have read and tried all the messages, I could very well on this forum.   Thank you...

  Thanks for the reply, yes my hard drive failed and I installed a new one, but after using the purchased HP recovery disc though HP, showed that a black bootmgr error saying screen was missing.

  Found on the HP disks partitioned hard drive, with windows on X:\ but was again start-up C:\ which was just a recovery image.   X drive was not complete, he lacked all the drivers and could not activate or change and C disc drive letter. I didn't know how to do this in the command prompt.

  Fixed my problem with a windows 7 installation no disc not the recovery disks that came from HP, if all goes well, they will work to reinstall all drivers to the laptop, but we'll see.  Used (computer repair) on the installation disk and it repaired the bootmgr.  Thanks anyway...

  In fact, this is not true. As long as he uses a large SSD enough it will be able to use the recovery media. I suggest using a SSD of 256 or 512 GB if budgeted for the upgrade...

  It seems that the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery disks. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can use a 750 GB hard drive, but not a 320 GB hard drive.

• Pavilion dm4, replacing hard drive

  So, I have a HP Pavilion dm4 1165 c: windows 7 64 bit, around a Yes and a half old.

  A week before, the hard drive suffered a kind of permanent fatal event and quietly left this death spiral.  If you want to know: any type of shoe was impossible.  System recovery could not even see the drive, an external drive could not speak of it, and it crashed to any machine that has tried.  I had to send it to data recovery - they tell me that the reader has hard errors and at least one of the drive heads does not.  They will be able to pick up stuff for me, but the reader is a loss (yes I know, I know - I should have backed up).

  So in my opinion it - I have two problems to solve.  1. I need a new hard drive.  2 - I need stuff to put on my hard drive (it came with nothing - I don't have the disc for the operating system, drivers, nothing).  That offer HP which determination of these problems?  How much are these options?  Who should I talk to?  (I tried to call tech support, but there was a bit of a language barrier.  Also, I'm out of warranty, and they want $60 to solve problems before they'll still talk about replacement of hardware and/or software).

  You can order HP recovery discs. You will need to call them as the link to the website to order them is broken.  Cost should be less than $20.00

  You will need the complete model number of your PC. I do not see a dm4 - 1165dm.  I see a dm4 - 1165dx, and you will need to provide the serial number.

  If HP has a set of recovery disc for your PC, you can use this workaround to install W7 on your new HARD drive.

  If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

  Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

  Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

  The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

  Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

  Pavilion 500-210qe started showing ' 511: cpu fan not detected; F1 = boot' message.  I checked the BIOS rev level and set to upgrade to the latest (80.13 FRIEND) but the problem persists.

  At startup, the cpu fan is not running, but after pressing F1.  Please notify.

  From the least expensive option, replace the cpu fan (which comes with the heat sink) has solved the problem.
