HP Pavilion dv6 - 6119tx HARD drive upgrade question

Hi all

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 - 6119 notebook tx. I am facing a SMART hard disk error and I need to replace it with a new hard drive. It currently has a capacity of 640 GB 5400 RPM HDD Toshiba. All I want to know is can I replace it with a 1 TB hard drive, 7200 RPM (with SATA 6.0 GB/s)? May be I have to 5400 RPM (with SATA 3.0 Gbit/s)?

Hi kiranmanju

After some reading on this subject, I think I'll go with MistaB.

SSDS and hard drives are treated in the same way by the operating system, and they are easily interchangeable. So no, you shouldn't have any problems during the installation of a faster 7200 RPM drive to replace your current drive to 5400 RPM.

There are only a few things you need to know when buying a compatible disc:
(A) interface: the vast majority of readers is SATA, and it is what you need
(B) 2.5 "or 3.5": the first is for laptops, the latter is for desktop computers
(C) drive height: most of the hard drives 2.5 "are 9.5 mm, and it's what fits most laptops. Some high-capacity drives are 12.5 mm

Other than that, the rest of the variables are related to performance.

but I can't guarantee anything of it now. I don't really know why then the user's Guide for your product just omitted part of 7200 RPM if they do not harm anyway. I recommend that contact HP technical support for more details.

Thank you

  • Pavilion DV6-1333sa hard drive upgrade.

I want to spend 320 GB sata hard drive 7200 rpm on my pavillion DV6-1333sa.

I would like to replace it with a hard disk of 1 TB sata 7200 RPM.

I was looking around and I was wondering what drives would be compatible.

I noticed that there are versions of 2.5 and 3.5 inches and there are also SATA II and SATA III.

This Seagate hard drive is the one I was considering. (google for more information)

Seagate 1 TB 3.5 inch 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache hard drive SATA3

I found it at a very reasonable price, but I was wondering if it would be compatible and how it would be to transfer my entire system on it and install it.

    Any help would be welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

You must use the computer portable HARD drive which is 2.5 ". The 3.5 "HARD drive you mentioned above does not physically. HARD drives for laptops are more expensive than HARD drives for desktop computers. You can use something like one of the following:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/ProductList.aspx?submit=Ene&DEPA=0&description=PPSSSSHD&name=sshd

They are SATA III but will be compatible with SATA II.

  • HP Pavilion DV6235 (US): HP Pavilion DV6235 (US) hard drive upgrade Question...

Should not a problem. You need to do some kind of recovery or backup support to put the software on the new drive, but if not just physically put in the place where the old hard disk, boot and install your software for it.

Looks like a lot of investment in very old hardware. Still, it should make it faster.

    Hi @Chris_8318,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment of CTO Notebook and concerns with the installation of a hard drive again. If you keep the new larger than your original SSD and it supports Sata 5400 RPM 9.5 mm, 2.5-inch hard drives, you'll have no problems.

Here is a link to your manual page 23 for specifications.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thank you.

I was wondering if this unit can use an SSD?

    Thanks for your comments

    Hello

The link below is the manual of your device

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c04438537

Supports up to 12 GB of memory system max (module DDR3L 1600 MHz), (Page 2)

For hard disks according to the manuals, I don't see that it supports standalone SSD.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 new HARD drive

Hi guys... the hard drive of my HP Pavilion dv6 was broken and its not detectable more... my question is... can I replace the hard drive of my HP Dv6 with any brand? I still have my recovery upwards... Please answer asap thnx

    Hello

Your not limited to any manufacturer of player, so you are free to choose the HARD drive you want.  The only point to keep in mind is to buy a replacement of equal capacity drive (or slightly larger) to the original - installing a lower capacity drive may cause problems when using recovery discs to reinstall the operating system.

  • Pavilion 15 ab128na: hard drive upgrade from the Pavilion 15-ab128na

    Hello

I am buying a laptop computer ab128na Pavilion 15 and wanted to know about upgrade capabilities.

It comes with a disc of M.2 256 GB SSD but it maybe a bit small. Is there room for an additional HARD disk drive (such as the gaming notebook pavilion)? So I, for example, M.2 256 GB SSD drive and a 1 TB HARD drive.

Or the model allows only for 1 hard drive, so I have to replace the SSD drive, it comes with a larger capacity SSD?

    Thanks in advance

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

This manual explains Star Wars Edition and the 15-ab128na sharing the same internals with this model.

The problem is if your laptop comes with just the MSSD m2 I don't think they understand the mounting kit for a 2.5-inch hard drive. You must purchase the part on the secondary market in some way.

Kit hardware hard drive (supports and connector) 809296-001

    http://www.eBay.com/ITM/809296-001-HP-15-AB027CL-hard-drive-caddy-Kit-grade-A-/171992018156?hash=item280b85ecec:g:2SgAAOSw7hRWPoW0

In addition, access to the hard drive Bay is a bit of a chore and put security at risk.

But to directly answer your question, the laptop is designed to have a m2 and the SATA 2.5 inch disk at the same time.

You could also install a HDD as pure storage using the slot of the DVD drive with an adapter. Of course, you lose the optical drive but I find myself with mine very rarely these days, anyway. Use of this Bay, the warranty will not be affected.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6c47cl: hard drive errors

I just got the factory reset disks, my pc is out of warranty... Will be factory reset discs allow me to install the new hard drive into the computer and then it will be as if it was directly from the factory?

I did the resets to factory using partition on computers, but never a reset using the discs... so I hesitate just install HDD without knowing if the reset disks will be re-hard drive partition and install the factory installed software.

    Need help...

    HP Pavilion dv6-6c47cl notebook PC

    Hello

Big question. Factory reset disks will allow you to bring the laptop to original settings.

If the hard drive is bad or you replace it for a reason any (like changing for one SSD), you can use the same media to reinstall the OS.

    I hope this helps!

  • HP Pavilion DV6-6c35dx: HP Pavilion DV6 secondary hard drive?

The HP Pavilion DV6-6c35dx is able to accommodate two independent hard drives? I want to use an SSD as my main drive for the OS and most of the programs and the current drive as files storage. Is this possible?

    Hello

It doe doesn't have a lot of space (physically) to a second HDD. If you wish, you can: remove the ODD (CD/DVD drive) and use this slot for a HARD drive. Please watch the following video:

  • Pavilion dv6-6140us: Hard Drive/replacement warranty?

I get an error Smart 'Failure Immanent' Drive, back-up immediately... and of course its been telling me this for almost 2 years now. My Question is, ' my hard drive that are covered by the manufacturer's warranty or the warranty HP? My laptop justifies more HP, but the manufacturer has a 5 year warranty on its internal hard drives and my hard drive is not yet 5 years old. The HHD I refer to has moved into my laptop at the time I bought it. Anything else you need to know? Thank you.

    ZiggyDee

Only the car manufacturer can tell you whether or not your drive is covered by their warranty.

You will need to contact them directly as HP has no role to play in this.

    Good luck

  • HP DV6-3140SE hard drive upgrade

    Hello

I want to replace my drive hard set from factory to a new hard drive to 500 GB. Are the new 7mm discs compatible with my laptop? Help, please!

Maintenance & service Guide for your laptop.

    Hard drives

Supports of 6.35 cm (2.5 in) hard drives (HD), 12.7 mm (. 50-in) and the thickness of 9,5 mm (. 37 - in)

The problem you have is the caddy, then I suggest to stick to the standard 12.7 mm and 9.5 until new caddies are available. Here's an article on the same topic. I just took a look at the cradle and the second hard drive on my HP Envy17-3002ea product loan. The tiny screws that are supposed to hold the hard drive for the current caddy will actually be a problem. I have to say that currently it would cause a problem with the adjustment of the hard drive to the connector on the laptop DATA\power sata.
