HP Pavilion dv6 - question on keyboard

HP Pavilion dv6 6148ca

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit OS

My question is about the F1 through F12 keys. This is the first time owning a laptop computer in a long time (I'm more than an enthusiast desktop computers), so you'll have to excuse me. I tried to fill a mission for the school in Excel and I wanted to use the F4 key to a function related to Excel. With the help of F4 in Excel creates an absolute cell reference. Instead, I opened up a menu to change the screen resolution! The only way around the problem was to plug in an external keyboard via USB.

Someone would be kind enough to tell me how to turn off the features associated with the F1 through F12 keys?

Thank you

Hello

The keyboard should have a blue "Fn" key, we have to press and hold too. You can always remap the keyboard, please try this:

    You can use the keyboard wherever you want, but the layout is for the specific countries such as those you mentioned. Go to ebay and get a keyboard with the provision of the United States or any other desired.

  • HP Pavilion DV6 questions intermittent of wireless connectivity.

    For the last 6 months I had serious problems with my laptop. It uses the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 wireless card.

    The problem is that every 30-45 seconds it will drop my connection. It happens so often that it is impossible to fill a simple speedtest, and even less sign up for classes or watch a video.

    Then to find my internet connection I have go troubleshoot, resolve some random error, it appears, wait two minutes, sacrificing an animal and then try to use everything I was doing. As a student who doesn't have access to a wired connection on a regular basis, it is a major PITA. I wish I could just get a new computer, but it is currently not in the budget.

    I thought that the drivers were updated so I found on the HP website and downloaded but they were 2012. I hit the update (while in the Device Manager) and it updated to a new two months (as expected by Intel) but the problem persists.

    I started my computer in safe mode and the wireless worked without any problems. That would point to what is a compatibility problem with other programs rather than a hardware or driver problem?

    Any advice would be greatly welcomed, because I literally lose. I very desperately need this computer for school and can afford a new at the present time (and frankly, I'm rather fond of this computer).

    Edit: The driver concerned from the Intel Web site: 15.13.0.2 published on 22-07-14. As far as I know, this is the most recent.

    Hi there @KAHarvey

    Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

    I understand that you have difficulties with your internet, but which is working fine in safe mode. This would indicate that something which is loaded in normal mode is the source of the problem and will require a bit of the investigation. If the hardware does not work safe mode, the hardware is fine, the problem is elsewhere.

    You can have a go at this page and see if something helps you:

    Troubleshooting your wireless network and Internet access (Windows 7)

    One other thing to try, as an experience is to temporarily disable the firewall. I do not recommend doing this for a while, just as a check to see if it is part of the problem. If you notice he's working, then I would look at either uninstall the firewall then put it back in place, or restore it to its default settings. It really depends on the firewall you are using.

    ANY help - in particular a working Solution - would be most appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

    Here is the solution!

    Run mssconfig.exe (click the Start button, type msconfig, click msconfig.exe)

    On the STARTUP tab, disable all programs except those required for your computer.

    In my case (HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook) the following programs have been enabled (checked).
    Synaptics Pointing Device Driver<= the="" latptop="" key="">
    IDT Audio of PC<= the="" laptop="" sound="">
    HP CoolSense<= the="" laptop="" temperature="">
    MS Security Client<= microsoft="" security="">
    MS SkyDrive<= microsoft="" on-line="">

    EVERYTHING has been disabled (unchecked)

    Then I restarted the laptop.

    The keyboard problem has been resolved and is been solved!

    I learned from a friend of tech support that all other startup programs no longer of
    grains which are responsible to speed up loading of the program if you want to use.
    Deactivation of these nuclei may be added 1 or 2 seconds of loading time.  And frankly, I
    did not notice any delay at all when I called is no longer in a program that has been pre-loaded.

    Obviously, one of the nuclei was causing the keyboard problem.

    Total time invested; fifteen minutes.

    Better that HP wanted to load to "clean" my laptop at $99!

  • can I have a backlit keyboard for hp pavilion dv6-3049TX?

    Hello all, currently I'm on HP pavilion dv6-3049TX and I use this laptop for multiple purposes, like office work. I live in Nagpur, India.

    I still wish there's backlit keyboard with this model as apple MacBook had. because this thing is necessary during the nights when you have so much work to do and at the same time that you do not want to disturb your roommate who sleeps.

    SO I searched a lot on the internet and then I found some articles that my laptop supports the backlit keyboard. BUT those who were on eBay and sold. then I found this article "http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Notebook-PC-Questions/Replace-standard-keyboard-with-a-backlit-ke... ". the official site of hp. But right now, I find Maintenance and Service of Guide. I went through it, I also found "keyboard with backlight (including the cables of the keyboard and the keyboard light cable):" BUT I could not find "intended to" of INDIA. So please help me to get an available backlit keyboard here.

    Looking at the site HP parts Surfer does not list a keyboard backlit option in the purchasable framework.

    I also looked through the specifications. It does not list the backlit keyboards as an option here, but he isn't one of those enrolled in particular for the India.

    I suggest to contact the HP Support in your country and see if they can help you locate the part. You can find information to contact for your country by going to the Site of Support of HP.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 notebook intermittent failure of keyboard

    I have a HP Pavilion dv6 notebook, 1 year old.  Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 8 GB of Ram.  I have an external wired keyboard (Logitech K120) and a separate wireless mouse.  Frequently in the past few weeks, I noticed that the keyboard will fail once the laptop worked for a while, usually when the laptop is in "sleep".  I hear by fails, * TWO * external and the internal keyboard.  Nor will respond to any strikes at all.  Mouse control is fine, even when the keyboard has failed.

    If I rebooted the system, it works well again.

    I think that when I saw this before, I tried to disconnect the external keyboard, but that doesn't matter, because the integrated keyboard does not work or the other.

    I guess this could result from certain automatic Windows driver installation or upgrade?  Does anyone have advice for the diagnosis or verification of current drivers?

    I have just closed the lid of the laptop, to force the machine mode 'sleep'.  When I opened the lid, the system has taken over, I can log in via the scanner digital, the mouse works but the keyboard has disappeared.  I had to reboot the system, update this message.

    fmaurais,

    Try the following steps:

    Control Panel-> hardware and sound-> Power Options-> change Plan (of the current plan selected) settings-> change the advanced power settings-> parameter of selective suspension of USB-> Disable (both)

    Control Panel-> hardware and sound-> Power Options-> change Plan (of the current plan selected) settings-> change the advanced power settings-> PCI-Express-> Link State Power Management-> Disable (both)

    I read on a Microsoft page that is who can solve some problems "out of sleep."

    computerwhiz90,

    I'll see if I can get a model of your laptop to see if I can reproduce the problem.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-1260se artist edition Entertainment Notebook PC Hard Drive Question

    Hello, I hope someone here can answer a question for me. I have a 4 year old HP Pavilion dv6-1260se artist edition Entertainment Notebook PC and the hard drive died on me. I have been trading for the replacement of the hard disk and found a 1 TB disk toshiba sata hard I like, the original drive was a 500 GB. I'm a graphic designer in order to available disk space is important in a replacement player. The page of product for my laptop specification does not say if the original hard drive was a sata drive. Did anyone here know if a 1 TB sata drive will work in my laptop? Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Your hard drive is SATA. Service and maintenance Guide lists the largest available in 500 GB hard drive. This isn't a definitive answer that your laptop can not use a 1 TB retail hard drive. However, if you use recovery disks Vista to install Windows on it, the more great concern will use a hard drive Advanced Format (AF). Most recent hard drives are AF and Vista will probably not be able to install.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 keyboard problem

    I bought a new HP Pavilion dv6-2120tx laptop. The specs are Wndows 7 Home Premium 32-bit, Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 1 GB Nvidia GeForce.

    Try using another browser (Google Chrome / Firefox) for a test to see if the keyboard problem still occurs. If it is not then the issue could be a problem with Internet Explorer.  What version you have installed? (IE6/IE7 or IE8)

    The same thing happens when you type in a document when you use Microsoft Word or Open Office?

  • Compatibility of the broken keyboard Pavilion dv6

    Hello

    I have a keyboard broken on a:

    Laptop HP Pavilion dv6-6110ez (LS222EA)

    I checked the keyboard is faulty by testing virtually everything and then disconnected - manic BIOS, beep stops. In the contrary case, the PC boots, so it bascially functions and also perfectly fine.

    There are also a few messages in the forums with similar symptoms - false characters appearing, "auto-repetition", etc.. Seems to be a classic problem, but makes the PC unusable without an external keyboard.

    The replacement part is 640436-BG1 - Swiss layout (the original HP & Flextronics P/N is 634139-BG1).

    But this part is not available to the user of part of HP or through HP replacement parts shop, or at the local (Switzerland) offical HP parts supplier.

    The exact part is available from 3 Parties at an apparently inflated price, but not locally (--> customs issues!)

    I can get a similar piece (570228-111) from a local supplier at a price reasonable. They claim that the compatibility is a fairly wide range of HW dv6-6xxx and 7xxx dv6, dv6-6110sw dv6-6117eg, which seem to correspond to the models mentioned in the service and maintenance guide relevant dv6 and (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842252.pdf).

    The local official HP supplier can also deliver this one but wouldn't listed no compatibility.

    Keyboards are certainly pretty standard and interchangeable enough individual within the same range of models (makes economic sense), if someone can give me some advice on what replacement keyboard would work in practice?

    Work P/N 570228-111?

    Thanks in advance.

    -Patrick

    Thanks for the tip, this is the cheapest around a good margin, but they offer only in the United Kingdom and I live there :-(

    He also says "Call for availability", hmmmmm...

    I think I'll just grit my teeth and pay the "part replacement premium" after all. At least the 'proper' Party will certainly work.

    Hello

    Yes, this notebook is compatible with the backlit keyboards. This is the manual of your laptop:

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02657339.PDF

    See the computer section of major components for the right part number and run the part number on ebay. You can also search on ebay for "dv6 backlit keyboard. Backlit keyboards there only for two sets or more.
