HP Pavilion Entertainment PC upgrade question

Anyone know if you can upgrade the processor on a HP Pavilion dv9657cl PC laptop? If so, I'm trying to find out what CPU is allowed for such an update and if the system BIOS needs updating, etc. Any help is appreciated!

You are the very welcome.

I never went beyond the installation of hard drives, memory and wireless cards in my notebooks.

I consider doing anything more than beyond my comfort zone.

Here is the link to the service manual for your laptop.

Chapter 4 will have removal and replacement procedures.

Just make sure that you update the BIOS before installing W7.

Here's an update W7 practical guide for dv6000/dv9000 models, if you decide to install W7.

    Hi, first post.

Just given a free laptop DV6000 and I like to tinker. Have built & modified several jobs over the years, but this is my first laptop.

Identify the first thing. Top screen bezel page HR said HP Pavilion DV6000

Said a slogan on bottom DV6700, but also DV6818CA (isn't it a Canadian cell phone, with a bilingual keyboard).

I think I'll give up the bilingual keyboard, because it lacks the F10 key they resemble only 15 dollars off Ebay in any case.

BUT, when I did a scan on Crucial.com memory, they said it was a Pavilion dv6700t series

It has 4 GB of RAM in it, right now and is under Win7 Home Premium.

I think to get the fastest processor that the Mobo can handle and stick it in there. At present, it has a @1 T2370. 73 Ghz, and from what I understand, I can put in the processor the faster is a T7800 @ 2.6 Ghz (if I read correctly)

Advice or direct experience anyone? Thanks in advance.

Oh, and PS, I had read that an update of the BIOS when running Win7 would brick of the PC, is it true?

I can easily get back to Vista and do an update of the BIOS in the first place, if necessary, the new processor, then reinstall Win7.

My BIOS version is F.52 24/03/2008

    Hello:

I must have missed reading your post.

It's because I don't watch that normally messages unanswered, and yours is as responded because you posted more than once until I woke up the next morning.

Your laptop may actually take the T9500 since you have an equal or superior to F.45 bios.

The release notes for F.45 State... Adds support for Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile Processors T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500.  Fixes the problem where the 1394 port may not work after the release of the standby mode.

Yes, you will definitely your laptop brick if you update the BIOS while running Windows 7.  You need to Flash the BIOS in Vista.

Memory... Yes, your PC will work happily 2 x 4 GB PC2 - 5300 or memory 6400. However, unlike the desktop version of the 965 chipset that manages the memory at 800 MHz, the mobile version runs only the memory at 667 MHz.

You can read that this related thread about memory in dv6500 + Intel models with the 965 chipset.

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/notebook-hardware-e-g-Windows-8/the-dv6700z-and-dv9700z-will-support-over-4GB-of-RAM/m-p/566163#M42472

The bad news is that if you have not already this memory (or you can get it at a steep discount), you will pay over $ 200 for 2 x 4 GB for memory that you need.

I would think more than twice before shelling out that kind of $$$ for the memory of a dated PC.

  • HP Pavilion dv9904ca memory upgrade question

I upgrade my ram of the laptop and I want to know if my phone can handle memory modules that has a speed of 800 MHz (PC2-6400), or should I buy only 667 MHz (PC2-5300) Modules?  (I'll buy two bars of memory with the same speed).

My computer laptop processor is an AMD Turion64x2.

Better buy at 667 MHz, 800 Mhz works but it will downclock to 667 MHz.

We cannot help here as well. There is no way to change the graphics chip. It is soldered to the motherboard. You have the Radeon HD 7670 M 1 GB dedicated video that's actually pretty good for a laptop. I think there may be another motherboard with a 2 gig of essentially the same video chip version but the cost vs benefit of such upgrade would be unwise. Huge cost, very little improvement.

  • Pavilion Entertainment PC dv6: need a new hard drive for the dv6-1230us

My question is about the HP Pavilion Entertainment dv6-1230us PC. Recently, it was abandoned, and since then it has been giving me the following message if poster every time it starts.

    Not found boot device

Please install an operating system on your hard drive.

    Hard Drisk (3F0)

    F2 System Diagnostics

"For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup"

I know it's important to run the hard drive test, but when I run the diagnostics of the system for the Test drive, it says:
    "HDD test failed.
    There is no hard drive.

I was also on the proposed site and even after "reset my BIOS to default", it recommends running the hard drive test, which does not simply because it has not really helped me the "there is no hard drive. There was a YouTube video that I came across thus suggested pulling the hard drive and diconnecting and reconnect to correct the error in this case that the son is detached, but that no longer works.

SO, I don't know if there is anything more that I can do, I guess that the hard drive is super dead.

It comes with a Seagate ATA hard drive. I was wondering if I could replace it with a SATA hard drive or should it be an ATA? (Even has the material capacity to support a SATA drive?)

Also, it is even useful to replace the hard drive? Should I get a new laptop instead? This laptop is used mainly for just browsing online and checking emails.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Yes, the hard drive is so dead, that he not yet register as a hard drive. The dv6-1000 series certainly uses SATA, not ATA drives so I'm not sure of what you see. You can replace it with any drive SATA 2.5 inch width 9.5 mm thick.

Watch this video between: 53 and: 59 and see that it's a SATA drive. If yours is different, so you have confused with your model.

    https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=QQx7PlIXFuE

Hard disks are a small fraction of the cost of a laptop and if your what it takes to, I would say that to replace the hard drive rather than buy a new one.

It is an excellent drive at a great price:

  • HP-Pavilion Entertainment PC DV9700 reconstruction

    I have a laptop HP Pavilion Entertainment PC DV9700, - p / n - nr # ABA Service Tag DV9925 FE695UA

    1. where can I get this motherboard?
    2 - What is your reference (INTEL)? It's HP-461068-001
3 - HP has a place where laptop computer rebuildingthis in Dominican Republic? ,
    3 a-where?
    4. I have a small factory where I have several produced primarily HP printers and multifunction.
They have workshops at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (multifunction), printers HP Officejet Pro 8600?
    Thank you

I think I understand most of your questions. The repair on this motherboard is called a "reformatting" and I guess that's what your technician did before. It is true that you can surely make a reflow second on the same motherboard. Each of them liked lasts more short than the previous. You need a new motherboard. There is a motherboard for the series dv9700 with an Intel processor and chipset. That means you, the 461068-001 is an Intel processor with a chip nVidia video. Those who still have questions. The desired one is 447984-001, which is an Intel processor, Intel graphics card.

    Here it is on eBay:

    http://www.eBay.com/ITM/tested-and-working-Hewlett-Packard-447984-001-Pavilion-dv9500-motherboard-/261173594858?PT=motherboards&hash=item3ccf28caea

This model may require a few changes to fit exactly to your chassis case. He won't have the same graphic power like your old laptop. You also need a processor and a new radiator.

At the point where you've done with this project you will have invested enough to get a new laptop. Your call. If you want more help spread the back.

  • Pavilion p7-1414: upgrade graphics card

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/desktop-hardware-and-upgrade-questions/P7-1414-and-GTX-750-TI-SC-proble...

As you can see in this thread, my computer will get full performance GTX 750ti due to my PCI ports.  So even if I upgrade my 500 Watt PSU, I always get a maximum return of 750 GTX ti. So in order to get maximum performance, what I have to get a new motherboard supporting the 750 GTX PCI slots ti?

    Greetings,

Your PC meets the requirements of minimum 300 Watt power supply.

Your PC has the UEFI BIOS necessary for the performance of the 750Ti. Your BIOS version 8.xx supports UEFI graphics cards.

Your PC has a PCIe x 16 slot 2.0. The 750Ti will take place in a 2.0 slot, but at a slightly lower rate. It is not as slow as you think. A 3.0 card works fine in a 2.0 slot.

The 750 will fit in your case, as evidenced by the physical installation of the card described in the link to the other thread user in your message.

No PIN six additional or power connections 8 pins are required to run the 750Ti.

I run a GTX 970 in a 2.0 slot and it works fine.

You need to enter the BIOS (Setup) to disable secure boot and select start inherited before installing the 750 into the slot. You must also uninstall the current graphics drivers before installing the new graphics card. You need to return to the graphics drivers generic windows before installing the 750Ti GTX.

    Hi, Juanca:

Enter a password for BIOS 3 times, and the PC should generate a code system off (stop).

Then read the first post on the link below for what to do with the stop code that you received from the PC.

  • Drivers for HP Pavilion Entertainment PC running Vista Home Premium, downgrade to XP Pro

I have a laptop HP Pavilion Entertainment PC running Vista Home Premium. Want to downgrade to XP Pro and have an OEM drive to do. Can someone help me find the drivers to complete this process?
    Thank you!

    http://welcome.HP.com/country/us/en/support.html

Look at the link above of HP XP drivers.

If the XP drivers are not available for your model, forget the idea.

If Yes, download and save to a CD or Flash drive.

Save all your data because it will be lost during the installation of XP.

Then follow the steps below to do a clean install.

    http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp

Once installed, reload ALL your other programs of original media, or download again.

Reload all drivers and utilities for your motherboard.
