HP Pavilion laptop dv7 - does not start, CAPS/NumLock blinks

After my own research Web, it seems that my laptop has a bad CPU. I'm writign this forum hoping to find confirmation of my diagnosis before I have spend money to solve the problem.

When I try to start the laptop computer he hangs with a black screen, sounds as if it is trying to read something from the CD tray and flashes the LED lights by the SHIFT LOCK and numlock. According to the link I paste below, the CPU has stopped working. I want to be sure it's accurate before you buy a new processor. Could there be other issues, I need to address here?

Hi Steve2014,

Welcome to the HP forum!

Thanks for your post, I'm happy to help you.

I understand that you get a black screen with no error message. The document you provided is right for the codes.  If the indicator light flashes only once, it indicates the CPU.  If you can run the diagnostics F2 at startup and launch the "Run - test, it will test the processor.»

    Hello

Error code 24 characters long drive Self Test (DST) would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with the startup problem you describe.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

  • Pavilion laptop g7 does not start

I have a HP Pavilion g7-1167dx Notebook PC running Windows 7 Home Premium.  When I turn it on, the LED only lights are LEDs of power (on the power switch and side) and the network LED on the F12 key.  I am not able to enter the diagnostics of material via the F2 key.  The fan is operating normally. It was produced before intermittently, but I wanted to just wait awhile and it would eventually start again.  When he finally is never returned, I disassembled carefully, according to the maintenance and care, guide (on an ESD protection adequate workstation) and gave it a good cleaning.  It was very dusty inside.  Unfortunately when I reassembled it, it still does not work.  The computer is a little more than two years. Product number: LW414UA #ABA

I sent the motherboard to repair parts of computer out of Miami, Florida and they fixed it and returned.  I was told it was the video chip.  They charged $70.00.  With each shipment way I got it fixed for $90.00.   Hallelujah!  With their setting of the original motherboard, I didn't have to worry about problems of CMOS and "tattoeing" a new motherboard, which would have cost a lot more.

  • HP Pavilion dv7t-3000 does not start

My HP Pavilion dv7t-3000 does not start. I checked this article: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674

According to who, the error condition is: 'non-functional CPU.

So if I buy a new processor and disassemble the laptop and replace the processor, it will fix the problem?

Perhaps, but it is much more likely to be the motherboard. If the motherboard is bad, you can't trust the blink codes that it generates. Failures of the CPU but rarely occur. Motherboard failure happens all the time.

  • Pavilion g6-1045ej: hp pavilion g6-1045ej does not start

    Hello.

    I use a HP Pavilion laptop 1045ej g6. The laptop is 4 years and 3 days ago, I replaced the cpu of i3 380 m to i7 640 m.

After the repalcement of the laptop won't start, fans were whirring but the BIOS screen came. The Caps Lock key flashes at intervals of one, the wireless button is orange and that's all. Its been like that since.

    Any suggestions?, please help.

The led near the caps lock shift keys and numlock blinks if a fault is detected during the boot process. The LEDs flash multiple times in a sequence and then stops. The number of flashes of the sequence is 1 blink. This means that the processor is not functional.

Source: computer does not start and emits a LED or beep Code

You can try to reinstall the CPU and check all connections first of all to see if maybe it just has not read correctly, as you said you just replace the CPU.

Although you had mentioned, you have replaced the i3 - 380 m with an i7 - 640 m. I found the CPU that came with the notebook in the table for the previous generation Intel® processors. Then, I checked to see what is compatible. Please look at HP Pavilion g6-1045ej Notebook PC Maintenance and Service of Guide on page 1.

  • Portege R100 laptop computer does not start after a while without food

    Hello

Well there is some time, I bought a beautiful used R100 - a laptop Toshiba in passing - but now, she has developed an annoying problem. Whenever it disconnect the laptop from the power supply for more than 2 hours about (don't know if this is not longer) I can't begin the R100, even if the battery indicator is green. After pressing the powerbutton the power led lights in green, and nothing happens. The "solution" to this problem is to give the R100 some time in this 'turned on' - State and after 15 minutes, I am able to start the computer (turn market again).

I think that this could be a problem with a battery on the motherboard that is at its limits and needs time to gather enough power to start the computer.

I hope you can help me identify the problem with my beloved laptop :)

    Yours,

    Tobias

p.s. I have more or less need to identify the problem and some tips how to solve - the pleasure with the surgery will be from me :)

p.p.s. Unlike the problem of the M400 further down, I've won if the beginning focused on the hard disk to Flash. In my case the R100 does not give a glance if it does not start. - And as a reference to the other post: "Hmm, I don't remember of the R100 fan not have it at all" * huggs its r100 * "."
And I tried unplugging all the bits of the laptop and removed the battery, waited 15 minutes and tried to turn it on. the only way to obtain the departure of r100 is the method described above.

You have an additional RAM installed?

Maybe you need to re-seat, or it has a intermittent or heat associated with problem.

  • Pavilion G6-1b59wm does not start

Nice day.. I have a G6 Pavilion that does not start when you push the power button. I tried it on battery only and with the power supply cord is plugged in. And yet nothing.

Here's what I see: when the power supply cord is plugged in, the power supply next to the port light is white. I press the power button it flashes white momentarily (and it flashes F12). Nothing else happens. No other led lite, the screen remains black.

    Diagnosis steps followed:

    1. the battery was removed, and unplugged. Start button / stop for 30 seconds and reconnected. Nothing.

    2. battery removed and plugged into the wall. Start button / down stop and nothing.

3 tried a different power cord, different battery... nothing

4 removed boards from the RAM, button / Stop button... nothing

5 deleted from the hard disk (RAM yet uninstalled), button / Stop button... nothing

    Any other suggestions?

  • HP Pavilion p6-2054uk: HP Pavilion p6-2054uk does not start all of a sudden upward. Help, please.

I hope someone can help here?

I have a desktop HP Pavilion p6-2054uk (Windows 7 64 bit - i5, 3.00 Ghz - 6 GB of RAM) that I bought in 2012 and especially use of HP products.

By starting my PC the other day, it will not start and crashes on the HP splash screen. When you press ESC, F10 and F1 and F8, it simply changes the screen to a black screen with 7 lines of text giving the details of my PC base on this subject. It should give me other optins at this stage, but does not work.

The HP Pavilion p6-2054uk hard drive does not start even another hard drive OS I've tried from another computer with Windows 7 64 bit on it. Troubleshooting a few others, I even tried a fresh new hard drive in it with a new copy of Windows 7 64 bit to install into the CD Rom and it will not yet go through the HP start - that is abnormal screen since usually, it detects the Windows CD and install. Furthermore, fans in the PC work normal, as the eject the power of the PC CD ROM light is on too. I tried all the three available inside power cables and tried diferent nine cables sata/data and another monitor entry too, all to nothing done.

The hard drive that was in the HP Pavilion p6-2054uk when he stopped to start up is fully accessible when placed in the other machine I have. Therefore, it is still operational.

The notable thing only I did in the days before it were installing Adobe Creative Suite 6 but I do not think that it would cause a major problem like this, noting also that another hard disk OS (without Creative Suite 6 is installed) and a new facility wouldn't start either. Therefore, I am afraid a harware issue any.

What could be going on here?

Side for the second or 2 of optimism about the usual boot the PC normally makes noises, it looks like he died immediately after, suspended on the HP screen.

    Thanks in advance.

    R.

  • Mini laptop of HP 1000: mini windows laptop computer does not start

My mini laptop from HP is saying windows has not start because the following file is missing or damaged:
    \windows\system32\config\system
You can try to repay this file by starting windows setup installation CD using the original.

    Hi there @kgoen81

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, so many other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff.

I understand that you receive a message from a missing file, and that your system does not start. I'm happy to help you.

First, I recommend that make you an external backup of data on the hard drive. There are several ways you can try to do that, but here is a page with a few possibilities:

How to recover data from the hard drive to a laptop dead - eHow.com

Also, please post the complete product and the operating system running on your laptop. Check out the following, if you need assistance with this information.
How can I find my model number or product number?
Is the Version of Windows on my computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

For now I'll assume you have windows 8.

You can also visit this page, and in particular you want to go with the automatic repair options. I would try before using a full system recovery to an original image, on the previous page I linked.

    Hello

You will need to replace the hard drive.

HP should send you a new drive for free, but in your case is a little complicated as you mentioned it already. Please contact HP tell them about this situation. How to do?

  • Pavilion dm3-2020eo does not start after change of RAM

As the topic says my computer does not start after a change of the RAM.

I've updated 2 x 2 GB 2 x 4 GB DDR3 SO - DIMM 204pins Rams. When I start the computer after installing new RAM does nothing, all I get is a black screen.

According to the Spec computers, it should be able to take up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM.

    Can someone help me?

    Thank you
    Leo

    Here's the key:

We're working on two sockets and one does not at all.

You have a bad memory module. It happens very rarely, but it's not impossible to get a new stick of bad memory. Get the replaced bad and I think you'll be fine.

  • Pavilion 500: PC does not start.

I recently installed Windows 10 preview alongside Windows Enterprise 8.1, due to the fact that I could not install the latest version of Windows 10 preview 10041 I tried fiddling around with my boot partition, consiquently I can't boot my machine at all is to say does not provide BIOS/UEFI & all I get is a blank screen.  I tried to start my 8.1 Windows Pro CD & nothing, infact my PC does not detect the CD at all.  I also deleted my partition to restore HP 'yonks' (plonker!) there.  Peuvent some please help?  I have three partitions on my drive, there are W10, we have W8.1 Pro and the third has all my documents & photos etc.  My boot default OS saw W10.

Thank you for the additional information.

I carefully read your original post.  I think your best option is a system recovery.  Given that you have deleted the recovery partition, you must order the HP discs:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-500-000-desktop-PC-series/5358992/model/5403158/document/bph07143/

So, I suggest to use a second hard drive to install Win 10.  It is the best way for dual boot.  When you have two OS' are on the same drive there is a lot of room for error. especially when installing a less stable version.  Win 10 is exactly that.

    Hello LJ44,.

I suggest you run Windows Update once on the device.

  • Pavilion g6-1311eo does not start after overheating

Ive had my computer for years (expired warranty) and it worked very well, but he's always been very prone to overheating. A week ago it overheated (again), and after that, it did not start more. I press the power button, I see caps light once or twice (Yes, indeed, when to leave, he could show only once, and then click next two times longer and so on..).  boot goes like this: first it will normally come this screen which reads "press ESC to the start menu", hten screen turns black and it should open windows but it doesn't. Instead, she made a reboot and it all the time. Ive ran all diagnostics and those who say just spent at all. I also tried 'hard reset' but has no effect. Also doesn't F11 at startup (System Recovery). Any help is appreciated.

Hello diibadaaba, welcome to the Forums of HP.

I see that your laptop will not boot properly after the current overheating issues. I will try to help you with this.

You mentioned that all hardware tests have passed. I always have the feeling that this could be a hardware problem, but would you try this first.

As you can not use F11 to launch the Recovery Manager, you have a recovery media? I would like that you try to start the system recovery:
View set to recover the operating system or reinstall the operating system.

If you don't have a recovery media and you need to get some:
Get a drive HP USB recovery or HP recovery disks.

Let me know if you were able to do this and if you can get into Windows then.
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums.
