  Here is the page of 'product' for the computer.  If you look in the section titled 'Memory upgrade information', it shows the maximum memory as 32 GB with a 64 bit OS.  It is dual channel memory architecture.  Therefore, you should check the memory stick existing brand and match exactly.  Otherwise, dual channel does not work correctly.  Running dual channel memory is faster.  If you does not match the existing memory, it may be better to buy two new sticks as a set.

  Sorry, to clarify, the bound manual covers the T510 and W510. I think that only specific W510 models had 4 memory slots in total, 2 under the bottom cover and 2 under the keyboard.

  Do you see a bar of memory under the bottom cover? If you do not, your existing 4 GB (1 stick) is under the keyboard and there is no need to pull. Just add a 4 GB stick in the lower compartment and you're done. If there is a stick in the lower compartment, then you using 2x2gb and will need to replace the two to get up to 8 GB.
