HP Pavilion Notebook Hard drive question and OS reinstall

I have a HP Pavilion dv4-2155dx Entertainment Notebook PC, series: CND0053PFN.

I recently received an error message of the INTELLIGENT notification that a failure of the hard drive was imminent (I also had a flat battery as well, thank YOU HP!). I backed up my files to an external hard drive to COMPUSA, bought a new hard drive and installed. I inserted one of my computer come with recovery disks (HP or Best Buy made so I can't make new ones if I wanted to). After a minute or two of hearing the reader has read that I received an error "No Bootable disc - insert boot disk and press any key." Tried several times more. Reorganize the BIOS settings to make the drive to read first, no help.

I then came here, looked at a few other discussions. They were no help. (this is a as http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-e-g/no-bootable-Device-Insert-Boot-Disk-and-... I watched)

I tried most of the things on this page, including download of the boot disk utility, but even after the creation of this disc, I still get the "No Bootable disc - insert the startup disk, and then press any key" error. I then put the old hard drive new, and played music CDs to ensure that my drive was reading. It did not work properly. He also burned a disc as well so I think it's OK.

I tried to make an iso image to the new disk plugged hard upward with a USB connection and this is where I met another problem. My laptop said that there are only 98 GB available on the new drive connected by USB. It is a 250 GB drive.

What can I do to get just my copy of Windows on the new drive, so I can use my laptop without fear of a hard drive failure in the middle of a test for the College or something like that?

Thank you.

Hello:

I can't help with the problem of recovery disk, but if you can read the product key 25 character Microsoft Windows on the bottom of your PC, you can do your own installation of W7 (DVD or a flashdrive bootable) media.

Here's how:

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

"Application and driver Recovery DVD" are not a (hardware) boot media, you need an operating system to be installed first.

OS install first, after that the drivers and applications.

  • Hard drive crashed and I reinstalled Windows 7 but my system properties are weird.

    original title: help

After a hard drive crash, I reinstalled my operating system to windows 7.  However, I think that he is "buried" and unused o my new hard drive.  Instead, it SEEMS that I have windows NT, & a mix of properties in VISTA and 7.  I much prefer to have a real operating system, as opposed to the almost "virtual" NT  However, those who have themselves appointed trustee-directors, left me with little control over my own computer.  I understand that right now I NEED administrators.  I would be grateful however, certain controls - and certainly some understanding- of what is happening with my own computer: like, where to FIND things, OPEN & USE some of my own stuff.  Help!

Create a new user account (admin) if possible:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/create-a-user-account

Have you installed the operating system? If so, your default user account is an admin user.

  • notebook hard drive crashed and no OS disk when purchased...

I have not received no XP Media disc with him as it has been pre-loaded, but I have the key on laptop computer code, how do I get an OS on try it with purchase of a new copy?  TKS in advance.

What is the problem that leads you to believe that you need to re - install Windows?  It's a pretty drastic and often no step necessary.  If you received error messages, please indicate them in its entirety, without paraphrasing.

As a general rule, Microsoft (that which I am not affiliated) NOT to replace or support Windows when Windows was preinstalled on a computer.

Support for preinstalled Windows is with the computer manufacturer... which is one of the reasons why Microsoft sells these copies of manufacturers of windows at a lower price.

  • Pavilion g6: hard drive does not turn on at startup

When I start my hp pavilion g6, it would show hp loading screen but nothing happens. I check the side and the hard drive light is not on. I have recently installed windows 8.1 and the problem started from there. During the installation process for windows 8.1 that will bail out the hard drive light and I had to stop (hold down the power button / stop) then turn it so that it can continue the installation.

  • Hard drive failed and I lost my product key?

    Hi guys,.

So my friends hard drive failed and unfortunetly he lost everything.

I replaced the broken hard drive for him and reinstalled Windows 10. However when I went to check if the OS has been activated, it showed as not been activated? I thought the machines after that Windows 8 had their licance saved in the BIOS, so we do not have this problem?

Also there is no sticker on the back or under the battery that contains the product key for Windows.

I also talked to Microsoft, but they were uable to help.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thank you.

It's a HP Pavilion 15-p264na. It came with Windows preinstalled as an OEM licance Home 8.1. It was then upgraded to Windows 10 at a later date using the free update successfully.

Then the second option mentioned above. Didn't it actually triggered successfully after 10 win upgraded?

If so, you should be able to activate just fine without problems, IF you use the same edition of Windows. You write it housed 8.1 - you now install Win 10 Home? You mentioned 10 Pro down...

So I guess I'll with your third option and using the recovery media?

I have 2 HP drives here for Windows 10 Pro for two different HP devices. I think these are the recovery CD, it says that they cotain the client software, if that is correct? Can I use these discs Pro on a BONE at home? Or that I'd be better by following the links you provided?

Laughing out loud. I'm sorry. I am afraid that you cannot mix just DVD / CD / etc - they are for a specific model for the specific version of Win / edition. You cannot use a recovery media for HP computer to another - it will simply not work 99% of the time. You cannot mix editions of Windows (the House is for Home, Pro goes to Pro).  You want the recovery media for this unit, you need to follow the links.

However, IF you have enabled the upgrade of Windows 10 post fine, you can simply download Win 10 ISO from here:

    > > https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

Download the tool, it will download an ISO and burn it to a DVD or write on a USB key. Follow the on-screen instructions, skip entered the key and move on. After installation, Windows 10 HOME should activate fine using digital entitlement if 8.1 Home Win allowed initially.

I would like to know how this goes for you.

  • How to switch my system on a larger hard drive without having to reinstall the OS and lose my data?

    replace the hard drive

I'm looking to replace my hard drive but I need all the files it is about it, passing a small hard drive to a larger hard drive. My question is how can I save all the files on the disk and how can I get the operating system on the new hard drive without the original disk

If your current system does not work, there is no need to bother with data backup, installation of applications and get a Windows XP installation CD (although regular backups are important to do as a general practice).

Instead, clone your current hard drive to your new hard drive.  All you need is an external hard drive enclosure and disk cloning software.  In addition, once you have made sure that everything works correctly, put the old drive in the external box and use it for backups.

Some of the cloning apps below are also disk 'images' (e.g. Acronis True Image).  A disk image can be compressed so that, for example 58 GB of data can produce a 40 GB image file.  Some of the apps, and of also can selectively backup specified files.

The housings of external drives more to connect to a USB port.  Make sure just that buy you one with the good 'form factor' (portable = 2.5 inches, computer desktop/Tower = 3.5 inches) and internal drive connector.  Many but not all speakers can deal with SATA and PATA time.

This example (for laptops) is not the less expensive external hard drive enclosure, but it's a decent case that can be used with either SATA or IDE (PATA) drives and comes with its own software package of cloning: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602

It is a very good buy for a drive IDE (PATA) Office size: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602

In general, Newegg is a good place for your search options by looking at the comments by users.

If you have a Western Digital hard drive, you can get a version of Acronis True Image free of WD (http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get the software of cloning separately (this is not an exhaustive list and in no particular order, some are free, some not):

    Acronis True Image Home
    EASEUS ToDo Backup
Paragon Drive Copy or Partition Manager Personal
    Casper
    Norton Ghost

  • Compaq Evo Notebook - hard drive problem

    Hi eveyone,

I bought a Compaq Evo Notebook online on eBay two years ago. Yesterday, I went to use it on and got an error of the controller. So I moved the computer and noticed the my cat peeded and he went under the computer and go to some of them in the area of the hard drive. I quickly turned it off and took apart and gently he cleaned with wet towels and let rest overnight with dehumidifiers. I then put together around noon and the computer will not start past the compaq logo, but when I took out the hard drive and tried to see if it would start past the logo, what he did and when I put a CD/OS-Ubuntu and it went to the operating system install screen (since it has an option from the CD). Anyone know what I can do to be able to at least install Ubuntu, rather than start from the CD or recover windows XP.

    Thanks for any help provided.

    Andy

It seems that the hard drive has been damaged by the cat wee, you can buy a usb hard drive adapter and connect it to another PC, see if it will be displayed in the Solution Explorer, if it copies your files off quickly.

If my HARD drive crashes and I have to replace, can I reinstall Windows 7 on the same computer? How the product key is affected? He still believes that I am still on the old HDD?

    Yes.

    Not at all.

    N °

If you have Windows 7 with an OEM license agreement (it came pre-installed on the computer is the most likely scenario for this, but you can buy OEM copies so) or you have a license to retail (upgrade or full version) - the way your question is worded is very specific - you * can * install Windows 7 costs/clean on this same system as much as you wish.  A new hard drive won't stop you activation - well that at some point, you need to activate by phone, as opposed to over the Internet.

Now - if the motherboard is replaced and it's licensed OEM and replacement was not that of the OEM that probably set up your computer...  Then you have a problem.

Unless you happen to have a license of Windows 7 retail sales, so it is not related to the computer (motherboard).

  • How to change Pavilion DV2000 hard drive? What brand/size of the hard disk works?

I have a Pavilion dv2000 I bought in 2006 (waaay out of warranty).

My current (original) hard drive is completely filled. It is 80 GB. Fujitsu SATA

I tried to upgrade the hard drive me. I bought a Western Digital SATA 250 GB hard drive is cloning kit.
The kit seemed to do what he was supposed to, but when it was time to put the new drive in, I ran into problems.

Do not match the connectors on the ends upwards. Metal "teeth - like ' connector end face on the new hard drive instead of to the bottom." (I couldn't find another way to navigate the hard drive cradle to get the connectors to face down so that they connect with the rest of the computer.

Predictable when I tried to boot up the laptop, it wouldn't read the new hard drive. So I put the old hard drive in and that's what I use now as I type.
The old hard drive did not fit into the cloning kit which makes me think that this hard drive configuration is obsolete and this laptop can not be upgraded at all, which sucks considering how much $$$ I've spent on this equiptment upgrade...

I can't find info on internal hard disk of purchases on the HP website. Anyone know what new hard drive will work in this old laptop?

    Thank you for helping!

I found the answer. It turns out that my computer is so old that about a year after I bought it, HP changed the configuration of HDD on their laptops all line of Pavilion in the future. The HD config in my laptop is now part of a line that was interrupted for more than 2 years. This old line goes only up to into space at 120 GB if you can find an old still sold online. Retailers do not sell them more.

And I can't use the clone HD product that I bought since my hard drive is obsolete and does not.

So I'm pretty much stuck with what I have now. It's not worth the hassle. I'm going to do with this for a year (with an external hard drive), and then get a new machine.

    Please help guys!
