HP Pavilion Slimline (HP s5000: I need more memory on my s5000 HP (HP s5710f))

I have had this machine for about 4 years and am currently running out of memory when in common applications such as Facebook.  The machine has 3 GB of memory on the motherboard that contains only 3 memory locations.  The maximum memory seems to be only 4 GB.

I need advice on what I should do next?  Analysis the new tablets in Office Depot I learned that most of them have about 12 GB of memory.  I suppost I shouldn't really that much but I would like to have at least 8 to 10 GB of main memory.  I can't do it on my current motherboard.  Is it better to just get a new machine or if I could install another motherboard that would be both mount my current box but also have enough connectors memory to support a higher total memory.

Thanks in advance for your help on this problem.

Hello

If it's your PC S5710f, then there are only two available memory locations.  If you look at the specs of your PC, you will see that you can install two 4 GB DIMMS to bring the total memory up to 8 GB which works very well with the 64 bit OS in your PC.

If you want to increase the memory of your PC then buy two DIMMS to 4 GB corresponding to one of the following manufacturers.

The best way to avoid problems is to contact one of the major manufacturers of memory such as Kingston, Corsair and Crucial and use their tools of memory, then followed by a call to technical support to ensure that you have selected the DIMM that is appropriate for your PC. When you buy directly from the manufacturer, then they will remain behind the product to ensure compatibility.

  • DB face memory pressure and need more memory?

    Hi all

    DB: 10g and 11g

    Need your advice.

We provide the server db use memory and cpu management report on monthly basis.

Average usage of memory the server is more or less the same each month that memory allocated to oracle is capped (for example, memory_target).

Therefore, we will not be able to tell if the memory allocated to the sufficient DB and when does more memory?

We are required to provide a usage report to show that the memory allocated to the database itself is enough on monthly basis and does not need to bulk up.

Is there a good way to provde this?

Our DBs are all OLTP and rarely do full scan.

First thought to provide the trend of BHCR (above 90%, this means memory is sufficient). Read a large number of documents that BHCR is no longer useful.

A better way to do it? Kindly share your experiences.

    Thank you

You can keep in mind what the different parts of the memory.  The SGA is a shared resource, which includes the areas of code and data, and even those who can interleave in pressure of circumstances.  The PGA is determined by the use of the users.  The trend of the latest versions of Oracle is spending more major requests for data at the PGA, but which cannot affect you much if you're like really OLTP, as you describe (which one silent report or batch could blow).  So really, after getting the right CMS, the PGA is more likely to be affected by the increase in the number of users.  Mechanisms of the target to be fairly stable systems (as well as assignments of similar resources carried out by reasonable operating systems) translated well enough glancing SGA and PGA advice and after it.

Using the resources on a system close to their means of amount maximum, there are times when performance will go downhill fast, simply because of a resource to bite.  (For a good time in mathematics, see the white paper to think clearly on Cary Millsap's performance.)  These types of problems can come from many sources, if a regime change, hardware malfunction or a simple increase in its attendance.  Those who dance near the line will inevitably have to step on it, or some such maxim comes from jurisprudence.

So the desire of the management of the Non-becassine-hunt is to anticipate and avoid such problems without too much purchase hardware or compulsive, disorder of tuning.  The idea is to make an analysis of trends which allows to predict that an increase in its attendance will make things down a steeply, to do what is necessary to avoid it (or at least expects).

Oracle has a report to do this?  Not really.  There are too many variables and too many ways to use and abuse a system.  Most performance problems are SQL issues.

What you can do is to simulate accurately the workload on a test system, increasing its failure.  This as an exercise in iterative parameterization can give a good idea of what settings are required in order to maximize what you can use and an idea what kind of use will start demanding more material.  For a well designed system, it can be as simple as looking at the number of users and uses of the pga.

  • Direct model need more memory than other local communication protocols?

Hi, for Timesten databases on the same server and applications we use direct model for performance bese.
But I want to know what size of JVM segment are set for my java application when you activate the direct model?
My application must head more memory when direct model than any other communication local protocols, such as the CPI or Unix domain socket?
Assuming that my Timesten database takes 12 GB memory in OS, this means that I have to specify the same size for JVM heap(-Xmx12G)?
I hope that there are documents or links to this topic.

    Thanks and greetings

    SuoNayi

The TimesTen database is always in a separate shared memory segment, regardless of how connect you. In client/server mode, there is a separate server process that accesses the shared memory on behalf of the application in direct mode, the shared memory segment is mapped into the process's address space. The total amount of memory used is the same in both cases (actually a little less in the case of direct mode as you do nto need the process of weaning). Since the if allocated memory as a shared memory segment and not by the heap of Java you don't need to increase the size of the Java heap to use direct mode.

1 USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 for a laptop is a change that is very expensive because it will affect to the motherboard to change USB card and even the motherboard itself.

2 RAM: Yes, you can jump to 8 GB of RAM:

    http://h20564.www2.HP.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docid=emr_na-c02575528

Please use Crucial tool, it will scan your machine and tell you RAM adapted. You can buy here or use the information to buy elsewhere:

3 SSD: Your current HARD drive is very good. If you want to upgrade to an SSD, you can go to her but interms performance/price, that's a little overkilled.

Only if you have the 27-inch model. The 21-inch models cannot be upgraded. However, you can view at OWC to see if they upgrade kit for DIY with a video tutorial. I don't know if they do it, but you can check with them.

  • Pavilion Slimline s3760a: hard to replace by disk drive cloning

    Product name: Pavilion Slimline s3760a

    OS: Vista

    Hi all

I'm Turina, just joined the forum think I write in the right place, but I would like to know if I am not please.

So we had our computer for several years, the hard drive is in red then am swapping try it before he died of old age, for a WD 1 TB hard drive.

I use a Sata-usb adapter and the editing software Acronis True Image WD to clone the installed hard drive.

It is only used at home, and we buy another for games, so it is just the usual photos, music, computer documents, type ftp and Web site stuff, but nothing too consuming.

I don't think I have the original cd that came with the computer, so I do not have a cd of the operating system.

Have already saved the computer several times so I'd go back to setting before changing the original hard drive?  No important stuff there that I can't get back.

    The questions are:

    1. The current drive is partitioned, the C: and the D: which is the original Image.  I want to know if I can clone the image factory separately to the C drive on different drives.  That is to say the image of origin on a disc and the rest on another disk.  Actually I don't know what is an original image, but after reading on this subject, I guess, it's the information to restore your computer to factory settings?
    2. If I can't clone separately, when I clone the drive will be the computer then be able to recognize the additional 1 TB or it will still recognize just aware of the 320 GB memory disks.  I know that you can enlarge the partitions don't etc. no idea how or even if I need to do this?
    3. And a separate SSD or same disc for the operating system would be more killing?  Actually I don't think I can put the operating system on a separate drive because I don't have the cd and don't know if I can do it with the cloning software.  But thought I'd ask anyway.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your time

    Turina

After you run the clone, this player can be connected with the drives original wiring (SATA and power data).

This new cloned drive should start without problem. The original drive may be stored safely up to your satisfaction.

A cloned drive is an exact copy of the original disc. It is intact, with all the programs and data files.  There is no further action required.

  • s5510f HP Pavilion Slimline running MS Windows 7 Premium Edition, graphics card options?

Before I disassemble my pc, I am able to add a new graphics card with HDMI output? I would use my plasma HD tv as a monitor with my wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. There is no keyboards made for my model of 'smart tv', and tab through the menu alphabet with an arrow on the remote TV is very annoying. Thank you, BAK333

    BAK333, welcome to the forum.

While the Slimline models are not intended to be upgraded, it can be done. Here's a great thread by Erico that should help you:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/desktop-hardware/can-I-upgrade-the-Pavilion-slimline-180-Watt-PSU-to-a-300-Watt/m-p/67620/highlight/true#M6343

The reason why this thread is relevant is that most likely, you will need to upgrade the PSU also.  Most of the cards that are capable of providing the type of tasks you want to do will require a card with more power that the existing PSU can run correctly.

    Hello

You will need to use the system board jumpers to reset it - the procedure is detailed under the sub-section "Erase PASSWORD settings" on the following link.

  • Update video integrated desktop HP Pavilion Slimline s5220y

I want to update my card into a PCI Express X 16 graphics card. I have a desktop PC HP Pavilion Slimline s5220y with a 220W PSU. What I need to know is a few things of different. I need a GeForce 8600 or ATI Radeon HD 2600 or better to run the games I want to run. I need to know if I bought only those listed and was not better or more would I need to replace/upgrade my power supply? And if I need to replace/upgrade my diet that anyone know what power I would need and how many watts. I also need to know how many pins would be needed on the power supply. HP could not tell me how many pins my current diet requires, so I will need to know that before I improve my diet I know that power will install correctly with the pins.

Any help would be great... Thank you!

I have yet to see a graphics card that will not require a power supply of at least 300 w (also offered HP slimline pcs with 250W power supply and a graphics card).
So if you want to upgrade you should first upgrade to your power supply.
For this you need to check if a common sold psu (which normally has an ATX size) could fit into your slimline.

    C.
