HP Pavillion P6687: DVD drive don't read do not

Hi all

Recently I have problems with my DVD drive. It will not read the DVD when they are inserted and when I try to see through Windows Explorer, I am asked to insert a disc.

The drawer opens and closes and I hear work but it does not recognize the discs.

I believe that the optics are good, because it works very well and will autostart and play a cd when inserted.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

It's strange but here is the link

If the drive is faulty, DVD players are inexpensive, at least in the USA.  They can purchsed for less than US $25

  • Seeing the drive DVD Satellite M50 does not turn OFF, CD/DVD drive don't read do not

    Hello

I have a Satellite M50 - mx5 with a carpet * a DVD player. When I insert the CD or DVD, the player starts, turns the CD autour (the indicator light flashes)... but a few seconds later, the drive stops turning, but the DVD drive light is on.

Windows also think that the DVD drive is empty.
I also tried to boot Windows from the CD when the computer starts upward, but without success either.

Ideas for what is wrong? Is my DVD drive broken?

    Thank you

    Hello

Sorry to said but in my opinion, drive is dead and that the replacement allows the reader features can save.

But be aware that not every drive is supported and can be used with the laptop!
Take a look in the user manual. Sometimes the compatible players are listed.
And it s useful to know that all parts can be ordered from the ASP in your country.

    have a nice weekend ;)

But lately, it makes this noise, but does not read the CD at all either. I searched the download and support already - suggestions?

I tried searching the base drivers / default on the driver download page, but they don't have em = / and restore the disc definitely out of the question since "broken" car

Hmmm. Entendez_ you the ODD (CD/DVD drive) is not able to read disks from different manufacturers; CD (+ R R + RW - RW) or DVD (+ R R, + RW - RW)?

If Yes, then the CD/DVD drive failure would be possible!
If this is the case, then you will need to replace the CD/DVD drive

  • Combo DVD/CD DVD drive don't read not more, still reads CDs

I just popped a DVD in a CD/DVD combo drive that I use for years and he refuses to acknowledge that there is nothing on the disc.
It also seems to take a lot of time to ride.

I tried Device Manager and the "driver update", but it says that I have the best driver.

I use this drive for CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo for years and there has not been a problem. I tried several DVD-Rs serious and two commercial DVD movie discs and I get the same results as in this picture

However, I have also tried several CD - r both music and audio and he recognizes them perfectly.
I also tested the DVD in my computer Windows 7, and he recognizes them without problem. I was able to open a text file on the data DVD and see a few seconds of a film before I closed it.

I don't remember the last time I watched a DVD movie, and I think the last time I used a DVD on this computer was when I played Gate II of Baldur's, which according to the files recording was in June since I played something on CD instead.
I only burned both DVD of Baldur Gate I, II, Planescape Tormenet and Final Fantasy VII and VIII of the CED for this old computer (it came with Windows 98SE, it is NOT a new system), so it is not difficult to determine when I finally used a DVD on it.

I have not noticed problems in using the drive as a CD drive, but haven't used the cd burner appearance or the appearance of DVD player in several months. I generally use DVD data on a newer Windows 7 computer and only use it for a few old games or music that normally use the CD, even if it's the main goal is to share my parallel printer with the new Windows 7 system that does not have a parallel port and a central server for my curriculum vitae cover letters and anything else I might want to access it from my modern desktop or laptop computer.

I think it was more of a hardware issue, if it wasn't for the fact that it is reading CD without problem.

P.S. I broke out the CD/DVD cleaner lens and it has no effect.

    Hello.

As the PML said readers use different lasers for different drives.  I encountered this problem several times and replace the drive is your only option.

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)
Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
correctly. Since it accepts no disc do not forget to remove ALL the power and control the
cable connections - remove and replace (at both ends where possible).

Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner might help.

Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always problematic.

CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the edge outside these discs
tolerances. They may be delivered, but it is generally more economical to replace the disk.

  • My dvd drive doesn't read disks?

I'm on Windows XP Edition family with Media Center and endowed of all three service packs and updates.  The drive is a Sony DVD + RW DW Q58A.

I tried a disc of data of a show, I was in, but the disc won't admit there is data on the disc in the drive.  I tried the all new factory install disks (who worked three weeks when I installed new hardware, they came with), CDs from multiple manufacturers that I myself, had burned the original factory delivers Bo to my favorite show on CD and even the recorded data files drive my friend saved for me.  None of them would play; I continue to see the DVD - ROM icon go to a disk, but it shows 0 bytes free and total 0 bytes, IF it bothers recognize the drive at all.  I can't open the disk in Windows Explorer; There is nothing except an empty window.

~ I did the thing to uninstall/reinstall device; no luck

~ I tried to update/restore to the driver; the one I have is the only integer

~ I tried the Mr FixIt option, but still HE always tells me that my disks are not readable, although I know full well they should be.  The only thing I can think of that may have messed with things is that I accidentally deleted my CD burning software pre-installed.  However, I did go back and redownload/install, so that shouldn't be a problem.

    * Update: I managed to somehow get a frying play-off-the Bo TV disc once out of maybe 15 times, I tried to play it.  The spinning drive and it will read the disk enough to tell me the name of the song and its duration, but Mr FixIT don't like this drive if I try and run the automated thing.

I think it's time for a new drive, but I hope I can kickstart it to life.  Any suggestions would be helpful.
