HP Probook s 4540 DVD burner does not recognize blank disc

Hello

I have a 4540 s HP's Probook.  Windows 7.

When I insert a CD or a blank DVD, it no longer recognizes.

The Player keeps just ROAR and stop.

Windows Media does not see disk space either.

I downloaded and ran this fix attempt

http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

And I get

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue

  • DVD burner does not recognize blank DVDs, but will recognize blank CD?

I read through several similar messages, but none seem to have a solution to my problem.  I'm NOT very technically savvy, so this is as much I know:

    I have a Dimension E310

It was supposed to come with a cd burner and a dvd burner combo.

The reader says DVD R/RW RW DVD rewritable Compact Disk its Ultra Speed

I was able to successfully burn CDs from itunes, but have not been able to burn any kind of video file.  In fact, when I insert a blank dvd in the drive, the computer does not recognize that everything is there.

As I said, I'm not the person most computer savvy in the world.  I know how to work with my applications, but I know little about the way in which a computer is set up, so I apologize in advance if my question is ignorant, but I appreciate any help you can give.  Thank you in advance.

I had a TOSHIBA laptop since April, and since I got it, I have not discovered how to burn DVDs on this topic.

I can watch DVDs and I can burn CDs, but if I insert a blank DVD, the laptop seems to recognize it as a CD.

The reader certainly said DVD + RW rewritable, so do I haveto format the disk or something?

    Any help would be great

    see you soon,

  • DVD burner does not recognize a DVD + RW

I recently bought a DVD burner, after getting advice from Dell, to replace the original equipped DVD ROM (?) in my Dell Dimension 4500, so that I could record my video movies on DVD discs.

The DVD burner, I was recommended is the ASUS DRW - 2014L 1 and this was provided by one of the "registered partners" from Dell. Unfortunately, this "Registered Partner" was useless, aggressive & dismissive to all after sales help or advice, where my request on this forum for assistance or advice.

I had no trouble to record my videos on blank DVDs DVD - RW drives, but when you try to use DVD + RW discs (to use in my Sony Home DVD drive), the drive will not recognize them. Both the + RW & - RW discs are brand new Maxell disks, the RW - 1-2 x speed, single-sided 4.7 GB & the + RW 1-4 x speed, single-sided 4.7 GB.

When there is no record of any type in the DVD drive, it shows in my computer as: DVD - RAM Drive (D). When a DVD - RW disc is inserted it changes to: CD Drive (D) with an icon of DVD - RW & this is also confirmed when I check on the properties.

However, when you insert a DVD + RW and the DVD - RAM Drive (D) going to Drive (D) CD, as with the DVD - RW, no icon is displayed to indicate the drive is recognized, or it appears in the properties.

As far as I can determine from the card, the ASUS DRW - 2014 L 1 is designed for both + & - DVD.

I'd appreciate any help or advice... or am I just dumb?

    Thank you

    Tony

  • External CD burner does not recognize blank CD

I have a new CD/DVD of Memorex burner that plays very well the prerecorded CD, but when I put in a blank CD - it seems that the blank CD is not recognized.  I've been reviewing newspaper and I see no evidence of an error.  The default current behavior when you insert a blank CD should be to open iTunes.  The focus to Itunes, but nothing else happens.  In addition, the CD does not appear in the Finder or on the desktop.  Once the CD is inserted into the optical drive, the unit eject button works like.  (It works well with prerecorded CD)  The only way to eject a blank CD's either reboot the computer or open the disk utility program and eject it from there.  Disk utility seems to be the only application that knows the blank CD - although he pointed out that the capacity is 0 KB and is unitialized, and partition map and the Smart function are indicated as 'not supported '. I tried with two different brands of CDR and get the same problem.

Note that I have this problem on two new Imacs. The first is a machine of retina 27 "with 16 GB of RAM and hard drive with more than 2 TB of space remaining.  The other machine is an iMac 21 non-retinienne "with 8 GB of RAM and about 500 GB left on the hard drive.  Both machines are running El Capitan.

It is the 2nd optical drive Memorex who gave me this problem.  I returned the 1st under warranty and has just received the replacement by mail unit this morning.  I contacted the technical support Apple, which were very nice. They took me through a SMC reset, but this has no effect.  Apart from them, they had no indication as to what was causing the problem.  I thought that I would try to write to you, geniuses.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

    -david

Contact Memorex. I think that you have to go back and buy something else that actually works with a Mac. 2 units in a row with the same failure seems unlikely. It is more likely that they are simple not compatible.

  • DVD player does not recognize blank DVDs.

I think that my drive can write to DVDs, but it doesn't even recognize empty (when I go into my computer after burst in, nothing doesn't appear). The disc seems to turn for a few seconds, then stops. He can read the previously empty DVD that had something serious on it by someone else. Research online I found that the problem is very common.
In the properties of the drive, it says disc SAMSUNG HD160JJ/P and HL-DT-ST DVDROM GDRH10N CD dvd/drive under hardware. I'm pretty sure he can write, but I could be wrong.
Thank you in advance, I would really like to do something with all my blank CD/DVDs.

This part of the drive name indicates that your drive is read-only, and cannot write DVD:

    HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDRH10N

If you want to write DVDs, you will need to purchase an optical drive DVD - RW. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • DVD does not accept blank disc in Mode without failure.

I'm trying to help an old friend whose PC can have a DURATION Packager, and she has never backed up its data.  I am trying to copy and burn his pictures in safe mode and I have files waiting to be written to DVD, DVD, but does not recognize blank CD or DVD disc and said he must be added.

    Buddy

Probably, he needs services (that you will need to run), in order to work. Which usually happen in safe mode. If it is a virus / infection, I would like to start in safe mode. networking, update the antivirus. And get something like Malwarebytes . Then update both. Then analyze the entire hard drive

    Hi Garry_x,

    1. were you able to use the DVD burner before with no problems?

    2. you remember to make changes to the computer recently?

This can occur when more than one service is defined for a device, if there is a failure at the opening of the service registry entry, or if the driver name cannot be obtained from the service registry entry.

  • Double layer DVD burning does not

The double-layer DVD burning does not work on my XPS420 w/vista.  The drive reads everything good and burns only 4.7 GB very well.  When you try to burn to a disc double layer blank he Burns half of the project (probably a layer), and then gives me an error message.  This happened with two different software.  Once with Roxio 10.1 included with the system and once with DVD Shrink.  I use an ISO image file appropriate.  My Player recognizes a disc blank double layer with 8 GB of free space.  During the burning process is when all else fails.  I downloaded the update of the firmware as well.  My thought is that it may be a media problem.  I virgins, disc double layer 8.5 GB DVD + R DL.  It's a brand off I've not heard of, but that was all that was available at the store.  It is a toshiba player, not sure of the model number.  16xRW +-.  Note: the front of the drive said no DL.  If all goes well they installed the correct drive.

    any thoughts?

    Thank you.
