HP TouchSmart Ultrabook 4 ENVY: fried, drive will NOT boot from usb

Hard drive clicking on, definitely fried. Replaced by the new hard drive. No matter what I do, it will not start from the

bootable USB key with windows 8 install on it.  Stick to boots on other computers.

I press ESC to the maximum power that I can get the boot menu, F1 works great, F2 works very well.  If I select F9 for boot options, for bios F10 or F11 to restore it goes back to the found boot device, hard drive (3F0) asks me to press F2 for the diagnosis of sys, the screen flashes. will not change.  No matter what I try, I'm stuck in this endless loop.

How can I put an operating system on this device?

Model # c2k82ua #abl

Nothing I've tried has worked. However, I have finally managed to make it work has that.  I disconnected the battery for the bios for a bit. After that, I could get in the bios setup. Still would not start from a good bootable USB then I activated the Legacy and set the boot order to boot from an external USB Cdrom. Reinstalled windows 8 and all is good now thanks for all the comments!

I put the new drive hard at in the BIOS setting, I chose to boot from USB... USB is recognized as it appears on the screen of the BIOS. I disabled the LAN option as it gives me PXE error... I think that the USB files are not read. as I handed the old HD and attached to boot from USB but it just goes to the start screen.

New HARD drive has nothing to do with it. Problem must be your USB key.
In your ad you didn t wrote what is on it, and we don t know if USB can operate as boot device or not.

I put t know what OS you want to install right now but original recovery DVDs or use Microsoft installation disc and install Win7 32 bit. I ve installed on friends L300 and it works perfectly.

    Hello

Thanks for the quick reply v.

It turns out that I had two different problems.

    (1) the external CD burner is not working. (I'm sure that it handles DVD properly because I can see the iso under windoze partition)

    (2) the USB key option had been formatted seems wrong - the default value is of this format read-only, which means that I couldn't burn properly .iso image file. I corrected withis with the command chmod 777, burned again and then the X 60 picked up correctly.

Pelased so it wasn't a problem with my beloved maptop... Thanks again!

  • Help, please! My Duet of 13 sony vaio will not boot from usb

I deleted the original windows 8 and tried to install 8.1
But now it't boot not a device external usb?

There would you remove windows 8? Click assist and try and recover the operating system.

If it works just follow the following steps to upgrade to windows 8.1 without ruining your vaio

    * Once the computer reinstalls windows 8. Click the help button to open vaio care.

    * Click Vaio Update

    * install every single update, there is until they are all done.

    * return to vaio care, then click Security

    * find where it says windows update and run that.

(this will update your current version of windows 8)

    * Once it is done go to the microsoft store and the first tile, you should see is

"upgrading to windows 8.1 for free"

Download that and your computer will restart running 8.1

  • Cloning hard drive with Clonezilla failed, gave a bad sector error message and now the original hard drive will not boot

    Original title: startup problem

I tried cloning from my hard drive with Clonezilla, and he gave me a bad sector error.  I have since run the hard drive test in bios and it passed.  Anyway, clone has failed, and now the original hard drive will not boot.  My dvd player won't turn when I try to load the Vista repair CD (Vista Home Premium 32 bit).  Clonezilla removes the start settings for the original disc?  And if so, how can I restore it?  The computer starts just a black screen with a cursor at the top left.  When I install the hard drive in a box and connect it to another computer, it shows the partitions and files all seem to be there.

    Hi DougEisenmann,

Clonezilla is not supported by Microsoft.

If you are unable to boot from the Vista repair disk then you will need to go into the system BIOS and make sure that it is configured to boot from the DVD drive.

  • Z575 will not boot from the hard drive or restore DVD

Need help on a laptop Z575 age of 2 years that immediately after an automatic update of windows, will not start either from the hard disk or restore DVDs (blue screen). Does not start in safe mode, not booting from a rescue of third party DVD. Attempt to start, it will show you the ability to start the Startup Repair tool. Repair shows that it is unable to fix with the detail following problem error messages:

Normally think that the hard drive has failed or that windows update caused a software problem, but the inability to boot from any restore disk that makes me think that there is another serious problem with the hardware of the laptop.

Any help would be appreciated. THX

Additional note: when you try to boot from a restore disc, blue screen, error message:

It is a hardware failure that cannot be restarted soft.

I also removed the hard drive and RAM, reinstalled and rebooted, no change.

Additional note: I was able to access the hard drive with a recovery of old program, focused on the (SpaceFM) ram charged through the DVD player. Hard drive data appears intact. Still does not start from the hard disk or a DVD of windows system.

Thank you. Rather than buying a 4 GB or more large key USB comes from put this into hard drive replacement. Installed correctly, boots very well now. No other error of the optical drive... and no explanation I can see, but that's it.

Unless something else pops up we'll just call cela a HARD drive failed after 2 years of common use. Thanks again.

  • HP Pavilion p7-1234: functional CD/DVD drive will not boot Clonezilla disk recognize

Have three HP p7 in small desktop running Win 7 64 bit. (Avast free version)

None of them will recognize a bootable Clonezilla ISO or Zip, whether on CD/DVD or USB.

    Measures already taken:

BIOS set to boot from CD/DVD

In turn the BIOS configured to boot from USB

Have used any compatible version of Clonezilla downloads based on my operating system and the processor, including the generic i686 ISO and Zip. (and makes bootable USB drive)

CD/DVD and USB function perfectly well otherwise. Able to access the other disks and USB media with no problems.

Also able to see the Clonezilla ISO when I look at the CD/DVD drive.

It starts simply what whether Clonezilla.

If someone has encountered this, I would like to share your experience.

    Thanks for your time.

    One rookie mistake.

    Problem:

Bad, I carved the Clonezilla ISO to CD/DVD disc.

    Solution:

    1. download the ISO Clonezilla appropriate for your computer, on your desktop.
    2. place the disc in the CD/DVD drive
    3. "right click" on the Clonezilla ISO on your desktop.
4 Select "Burn Image" and follow the default values.

Now you have a proper boot Clonezilla disk.

    Next:

    1. make sure the BIOS is set to CD/DVD is bootable.
    2. place Clonezilla disc in open the tray of the CD/DVD drive.
    3. restart the computer and close the CD/DVD tray
4 put your finger on "F9" key and now wherever the blue HP screen appears, press "F9".
    5. boot Menu loads.
    6. move arrows down to the first line indented under "ATAPI CD/DVD DRIVE...
SATA2 or SATA3 will be according to your system.
    7 hit ENTER.

    Clonezilla immediately, boots and loads.

I hope it works for you.

  • Desktop HP ENVY 700: problems with the boot from usb in the bios

Hi I'm trying to boot from usb on a desktop HP ENVY 700. I don't know the serial number now.

I followed the instructions and have produced a bootable USB and I checked this on a work dell computer where there is an option for me to boot from my USB if I so wish, but on my HP ENVY any options choose it does not appear with my USB in question and when I try to change the boot sequence making sure the usb/floppy and drive hard usb is above the rest of the sequencers starting it always starts just to the top as usual to my windows boot 10. I've disabled secure boot and used the boot of the legacy and it still does not work.

I went through all the options I can that seem to be logic and it just does not work. I don't understand and I have to start using a usb key that I use the operating system can be very dangerous in a real environment, so it can not be downloaded to the hard drive.

I need immediate help, this becomes quite frustrating now that it should be simple to do, but HP is not the way to simplisitic to do.

Please if someone could point me in the right direction I would be so appreciative ideally if I could have a ride on the way to do

I need this to work because I can't afford to buy new systems and its for my studies so its imperative

Your PC has a motherboard of Memphis and happens to have a UEFI BIOS and the hard drive of the GPT format.

You can check the type of hard disk online order volume by using the DiskPart utility.

    Hi @db69613,

Welcome to the HP forums! It's a great way to engage, ask questions and find resolutions by working with specialists from the community of HP. I understand that you need assistance with your desktop computer HARD drive that is connected to your laptop via the USB port. I'll be happy to help you with this.

I'm just surprised at the levels of technical knowledge and technical skills that your possession. Hats off to you for this. It was very clever of you! It has been a privilege to have shared this platform with you and work with you.

First of all, programs of a different version or windows session will not work on another computer as it was installed on the computer of origin at this time. It is an installation and application software, to the difference of the data or information that is accessible by any computer when the hard drive is connected. It is because no software installation binds the application of this specific operating system installed on this specific to the time machine.

If the computer does not and the hard drive is accessible, all the content (such as music, photos, videos, and other information are accessible), but the programs have been installed originally are not available and will not work on any other computer when it is connected to the outside.

However, if the hard drive works fine, windows is correctly installed, then the same hard disk can be installed on another PC of office and some of the programs should work ideally.

I hope this helps! Please let me know how it goes. I really hope that the issue is fixed without hassle.

  • NB100 will not boot from the XP CD in the external USB CD/DVD drive

I try to install XP Home in my NB100
The netbook still refuses to boot from the XP CD. It's just not more
Returns the current operating system (Ubuntu) or give the error "Could not find NTLDR" dreaded.
And yet - it will boot from an Ubuntu Live CD disk perfectly fine, AND
If I connect this external hard drive on my computer Windows 7, (another Toshiba
Portable satellite) that the machine starts quite successfully since the XP CD
    in the same external drive!

Can anyone throw any light on what is happening on Earth on?

    Hello

There are various reasons why this error message:
In most cases this error because the laptop is trying to boot from a HARD drive or flash drive that is not configured correctly. Maybe the drive is not bootable or not compatible.

It would also be possible that some sectors on the HARD disk, HARD drive failures are corrupt or BIOS is damaged. NTLDR error messages may also appear if the master boot record is damaged.

In your case I recommend that you format the first HARD drive before booting from the hard drive CD7DVD external using Win XP CD.

By the way: you must add SATA driver to CD Win XP using nLite.
The SATA driver is placed on the European driver Toshiba page in the Intel Storage Manager

The SATA driver is needed to recognize the HDD by Win XP!

  • Windows 7 for Lenovo G50-70 - the computer will not boot from the CD

    Hello world

I hope that someone here will be able to help

I bought a new laptop with Windows 8.1. I want to install Windows 7 on that I know well because I can't use the new windows. I changed the settings in the BIOS to get the machine to boot from the CD, but it won't be fair. I also tried to restore the system to boot from the CD, but it installs just the Windows pre-installed, new instead. Also, I can't access the CD from the drive while all my other computers are capable of (what is strange)

    Can someone help, please?

    See you soon

    PS. : I can turn on the computer through the small "boot botton" on the side and select the DVD drive to boot from. But this is not followed by the message "Press any key to boot from CD" and the computer starts just W8 yet;

I contacted customer service and followed your advice. They refused to help him on the ground that there nothing wrong with the machine in their opinion, and since I wanted to change operating system. All preinstalled spyprogrammes Lenovo has been erased with this downgrade. So far, I've owned a laptop computer brand new and expensive for a year I used only to waste my time, trying to make it work, that was not why I bought it in the first place. What a RIP-OFF!

I set the bios to boot from the cd. He reads the Windows XP cd for a minute then jump to trying to boot on the network adapter.

Do I need to have the cd of recovery or must it be able to boot from a plain old XP cd?
If it can boot from a normal cd is the stuffed ROM or am I missing something?

    Hello

    > I replaced the hard drive in the laptop, the old man died

Your new hard drive is recognized by the Bios?

    > Do I need to have the cd of recovery or must it be able to boot from a plain old XP cd?

You can use a recovery (if available) disk or Windows disk copy. In the Bios, you must set the Cd/DVD-ROM as 1st boot device and press F10 save and exit. Turn it back on. Thus, your computer you should start the installation of the Cd drive.
