  If the machine is, like you say, identical, there should not be any conflicts. In theory, any SATA hard drive should power be removed to any machine and placed in another computer SATA or external drive Bay. The only exception would be if your drive was encrypted. What suite of Windows is installed on the hard drive? (7 or 8? Home Premium or professional?)

  I installed Windows Vista professional from the CD. It worked perfectly... I want to say that I was able to retrieve all my data because it stored in a folder called Windows.Old

  But since I could not the wifi adapter and integrated graphics card Intel to work on the PC, I tried to restore factory settings. It doesn't let me access the Recovery Manager by pressing F11 on reboot I went to the computer icon and right-click on it. I selected manage and made my recovery disk a partition active.   Update, I consider the much appreciated a Slimline DVD +/-RW drive. Unfortunately, some internet research revealed that the upgrade to optical laptop drive is not as simple as one would hope. I had no trouble to remove my old drive (just remove the keyboard and unscrew the two screws), so I consider myself to be able to put in a new drive instead. However, two problems remain:

  -mechanical compatibility: the 6500 has seems to have a different layout of collar. The eject button and the LED are in a different position from that of my current drive, so I doubt I'll be able to use my old glasses with it.   as a first step in a Satellite 5100 CD player is fixed mounted and can only be replaced with the same model! Another model might work, but as you can see the bezel fits and maybe the new drive does not match 100%. So you will have problems all the way!

  Remove the frame just above the keyboard. You will notice a Tin strip of plastic located just above the keyboard. This band is called the keyboard bezel and you remove by gently lifting the edge upward with your small standard screwdriver. Work your way through the bezel lifting as you go.   Remove the screws from the laptop keyboard Toshiba G83C000872. When the frame is removed, you will find three or four screws at the top of the keyboard. Using your small Philips screwdriver, remove these screws and place them in a safe place where you will not lose them.

  Remove the keyboard. With the screws removed, gently lift the keyboard from the top down. You will notice a sliver of wire from the keyboard to the laptop. Lean toward the front of the keyboard so that you can access the ribbon cable connection.

  Remove the Ribbon wire. Take your standard screwdriver and gently push up the support locks, on both sides of the ribbon cable socket. These support slide locks up slightly as you push to release the wire.

  Connect the keyboard to replacement. Everything as you have removed the old keyboard, you will now push the replacement wire Ribbon in Ribbon decision-making. With a small screwdriver, push the brackets in place to fix the Ribbon.

  Screw the replacement keyboard. Using a screw, connect the keyboard. With the keyboard which is held in place by the screw, start the computer and test the replacement keyboard. Once tested, replace the remaining screws.

  Insert the bezel above the keyboard. With the keyboards now set by all the screws, place the bezel back on its opening and put it back. Start at one end and work your way through.
