HP updates agent is still running

I have a HP Media Center PC m7640n

I am running Windows XP

In my task manager, 'HP updates Agent' is always on.  He never stops.  This happened a few months now.  I googled and it goes to a few other people.  A suggestion they give is to disable updates from HP, but I'm not sure I want to do this.  I would rather fix the problem correctly.  Help please.

The correct way on a machine of this age (where probably no updates from HP will come) is probably to turn it off. Start | All programs | Start, select 'HP updates' (or something like that) and right-click to delete

    Ohanna Hello,

Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forums.

Determine the current Version of WUA:

Determine the version of Windows Update Agent (WUA) before using it. The current version of WUA is determined by the version of the c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll that runs in the current installation of Windows \System32 directory. If the c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll is version 5.4.3790.1000 or a later version, WUA is installed. A version earlier than 5.4.3790.1000 indicates that the Software Update Services (SUS) 1.0 is installed.

When a call is made for SUS 1.0 using the API INTERFACE, an HRESULT of WU_E_AU_LEGACYSERVER is returned.

You can also use the IWindowsUpdateAgentInfo::GetInfo method to retrieve the latest version of file of the c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll that runs on a computer. The IWindowsUpdateAgentInfo interface is not supported in WUA 1.0.

For more information, see update the Windows Update Agent.

    Thank you.

  • Windows Update error 80070005 - most likely caused by a Windows Update Agent 3.0 installation - how to solve?

I am running Windows 7 RTM and stupidly installed Windows Update Agent 3.0 (I forget why, it seemed a good idea at the time), but now I find that Windows Update does not work - whenever I try to check the updates, it will fail with error code 80070005

There seems to be no way to remove the Update Agent 3.0 install, despite the restoration of the system, I just found out that it was fixed at 0% of the disc, so I don't have any version of the work system to restore! :(

So, how can I resolve this situation, for example to delete Windows Update Agent 3.0 or otherwise restore the version of the Windows Update files I had before?

And why it does not work anyway? Is it installed... could there be a bug? Or it is fundamentally incompatible with Windows 7 and never should be installed in the first place? In which case can someone at MS please update agent Installer to avoid that it install on Windows 7, so that no one else suffers from the same problem?

jhefer3 wrote: My virus protection and Internet security is provided by Norton 360, is underway and is updated automatically successfully.

I used the fix tool, but not in the aggressive mode. I have not tried a reset because many of the reset of values seem to be for 32-bit machines.

Another version of Norton 360 (i.e., N360 2008) has already been installed on the computer?

A Norton or McAfee free trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it?

The FixIt and reset are the same thing. Open an instance of IE 32 bits (not IE 64-bit) for http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058, click the FixIt icon and choose Aggressive mode this time. am under explore 8 and it is updated. Is there any help out there for this? I'll be bald if I can't solve this problem quickly.

I will try to reinstall the Windows Update Agent Installer.  Here is a link to the Microsoft site that explains how to do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104.

Go to the section How to get the last agent to update as it is already installed.  Scroll down to the section on the additional information tab called Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (I checked that it also works under Windows 7).   Choose one that fits your computer (x 86, x 64, Itanium).  Run this update and follow the instructions.  Windows Update will now be reinstalled, but it's a good idea to restart at this point.

I hope this will solve your problem.

  • My automatic updates are set to run on a certain day at a given time, but they seem to run when they like, which slows everything down to a standstill. Why does this happen?

    Val,
Make sure you have Latest Windows Update Agent.  You can change the setting to download and then provide information to install just to check that it is downloading at the right time.  Also, if you run Windows update, then select the 'review your update history' to see if an update had failed and that they had tried to install up to this date. • Windows installed the automatic windows update agent and I would appreciate help with the settings option in this newly installed agent update so no update never install or download unless I choose to do.

    Hello.

I have windows vista 32 bit home edition.

Today somehow automatically installed windows ' automatic update agent 747600226

I always keep my settings to check the updates but let me choose whether to update or install.

With this new "update automatic agent" which automatically installed on my system, I want to make sure I have place it properly so that it remains in the same way that I always have my settings but two settings (options), he checked, and are confusing for me to know what those checked settings will do.

I would like to help you with these settings to make sure that the update is still as I want.

Below chose correctly when the new program installed today.  That's how I still want the settings to be:

Look for updates but let me choose whether to update or install

Please let me know if I need to change all the options account required in addition to this update agent to ensure that only, I choose to update or install.

There are four options and a box is in two and I don't know if I should remove the check marks or not.

Here are the other four options that I need to know how to configure it so that only I have update/install.

Once again, the download automatic microsoft today (update automatic agent 7.4.7600.226) without asking for my incentive preset automatic update options and that's what I'm trying to make sure is set correctly so that nothing installs or updates without asking me or let me do.

Option 1: (this option is checked. If I leave it checked will be it install or warn me only?)

Give me updates recommended in the way I receive important updates.

Option 2: (this is not checked and am not worried about this one)

Allow all users to use installed on this pc.

    Option 3:
(this is checked and want to know if should uncheck; what I don't want is any what to auto install, but the wording of this option and option 1 are vague because of the "give me " so I don't know what it means or will do.)  If this box is left to it automatically update/install?)

Give me updates for Microsoft products and looking for new optional microsoft software when I update windows

Option #4 (this is not checked, and I am not concerned about this).

See the notification me detailed when new microsoft software is available.

Thank you very much for your help.

    Take care! :)

    Hello

The Windows Update automatically updates the updater (himself), regardless of your settings.

    1. Yes it will alert you so you can update or install.

    2. check if you need more of yourself (other users) to be able to select and install the updates.

    3. it will let you know when they become available.

    4. just gives the news of additional details about some of the updates.

Looks like you're ready for anything you like.

  • I get this KB2481109 update and it still fails to update it's a virus

I get this KB2481109 update and it still fails to update it is a virus and how iI to get rid of this?

    Hi Judy,.

    1. do you get an error code?

    2. who is the antivirus installed on the computer program?

Since this is a security update, there is a chance of infection from malicious software on the computer. We will analyze and identify the cause of the problem.

    Method 1:

You can reset Windows Update components and check.

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Method 2: Virus Scan

Note: If infections are detected during the scan, there is a risk of data loss because infected files will be deleted.

  • WUA (Windows Update Agent) missing... How to restore?

On a Win - Vista 64-bit system, for some reason any the Windows Update Agent (wuauclt.exe) does not start.  I used to see 'wuauclt"under Task Manager/processes, but it's just not there.  If I invoke manual update of Windows, the control panel appears on the screen, and I see "Windows Update", running task manager/Applications and "wuauserv" running in Task Manager/Services, but nothing about Windows Update under Task Manager/processes and no Windows Update icon in the Notification area.  In addition, the Windows Update utility simply runs and with what looks like no communication over the network and no results, even after hours of "Verification of updates...". ».  What starts normally wuauclt.exe, and someone can offer advice here?  Thank you!

So Flash Player version 23.0.0.162 runs in IE9 and Firefox now, is that correct?

What is "Duck-duck-Go search engine" has to do with it?

    • When you install or upgrade Flash Player manually, you are usually offered toolbar (for IE), Google Chrome browser and, if you agree to Chrome, an option to make your default browser. I saw McAfee Security Scan offered, too, but never a search engine.
  • I can't get updates since SP2 installation and update of the Windows Update Agent.

I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit.  I have done 3 installs clean for several days and each time I install SP2 and update the Windows Update Agent I can't get updates.  When I click search for updates, it just keeps looking for hours and hours and never stops looking.  I tried several solutions on the internet, including those found here.  Of course, the first thing I did was run the Fixit of Windows Update tool.  He could not solve any problems found.  He gave the error code 0 x 80070005.  I installed the SubInAcl.exe and run several different command text and a text of the batch.  The batch text did nothing.  The texts of order had errors of syntax and a file, he could not access.  I ran the System File Checker, and it finds errors, it could not fix.  I just did a clean install on this machine 6 or 8 months ago because I was going to get rid of the computer, so when I put in place I used the username user.  I came across no problem at all when I installed the operating system and update everything.  Since then, I decided to keep the computer, so I wanted to have it in my name.  As I said, this is my 3rd try.  I am willing to give.  Maybe someone here can help.

I tried two clean installs and I get the same thing.  Once I have installed SP2 and the new Agent update, I can't get more updates.  It keeps only the search for hours without results or error messages.  I tried all of the suggestions I found on the internet, but nothing works.  I get always the same error code 0x80070005, when I run the Fixit of Windows Update tool.  There must be a way to solve this problem.  Why I was able to do a clean install of 6 or 8 months without any problems, but now I can't.  It makes no sense at all.  I really hope someone who knows the answer reads this.

    Ralph C.

I finally got it!  I tried two other proposed solutions, then I ran the System File Checker, which is no problem, then I ran Check Disk.  Check disk found and repaired files in the file system of BITS among others.  After that, I'm now completely up to date with Windows Update.  I was ready to give up.  I'm glad I did not.  For anyone else having similar problems, don't give up, the answer is there.

  • Historic Windows Update displays do not correctly after installing problem updates 7.6.7600.256 for Windows Update Agent?

Had the problem on the 25/06 reboot after the installation of update 7.6.7600.256 for Windows Update Agent (required system restore).

This (with duplicates) and subsequent updates are shown as successful in the history of the update, but shows always date of "updates have been installed" on the home window Windows Update like 13/06/2012 (previous updates) and updates later only the fix (KB981889) shows as available in the Uninstall list.

How will I know if the Windows Agent Update and other subsequent updates installed correctly?

If the Update Agent update has not been installed correctly, is there a solution for this?
