  There are many causes of Code 39 errors:

  ·         A required device driver is missing.

  ·         A required binary file is corrupted.

  ·         There is a problem with the file I/O process.

  ·         A driver that refers to an entry point in another binary file cannot load.

  5. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.

  6. restart the computer.

  After the computer restarts, the drivers will be installed automatically.

  1. what type of installation are you running? 2 did you do a factory restore using the Dell recovery disk?

  If you did a factory restore or a clean installation of Windows XP, then all data and programs stored on the system are lost.

• Windows XP - laptop computer purchase on eBay and o/s has no validation

  I'm helping a friend and now I need help.  The friend bought a laptop Compaq from eBay.

  Installation of a USB adapter in the computer wireless laptop and decided also do updates of Microsoft security and introduce an anti-virus because it was not one.  Updates went to the validation of the software, and it failed.  There is a product key of MS on the bottom that is easily readable.  The windows xp update product key failed.

  I then noticed that the key is for XP Home Edition.  The laptop had XP Pro installed.  I have a dusty copy of XP Home Edition (I'm only Win 7) a PC long gone.  Can I use it and the key on the bottom of the laptop?   My copy has a product key on the box.  Really looking forward to the re - install, but this is the case.

  Do not wonder that he's been blocked - this is a Volume license key, and never was valid for the employees of the Organization of the holder of the licnese in any case.

  The installation of Office is also very likely to be non-genuine - it is a version which I believe was only sold under Volume License.

  You will need to reformat and reinstall, preferably with the manufacturer recovery media.

  If you can not hold a set of media, then the second best option is to reformat and then install using a disc OEM System Builder for XP Home and the wrench of the sticker

  [edit] It may be possible to reinstall using your media available - you won't lose anything by trying - you may need to use the product key update tool after installation to change the key to that on the sticker.
