  • Satellite R630 - how to disable hyper-threading technology

    Hi all

I can't find the option in the bios to disable hyper-threading.
There is an option "disable carrots", which translates as windows only showing 1 core in the Task Manager.
But this isn't what I want.

I do some supercomputers and my experience tells me that allowing the use of thread cache on its own gives me the best performance that have multiple threads share the caches by SMT.

I have the newest BIOS (BIOS 1.60, THIS 1.40). Why Toshiba would prevent such an option.
It is available in the R700 models?

    Cheers, Jim

    Hello

    What to say;
It seems that the BIOS does not support this option and therefore you would not be able to disable the s CPU hyper-threading and I doubt you'd be able to disable this somewhere else.

In my opinion, there is nothing to see

  • On the hyper-threading technology

Hello. I rather heard a lot of the inefficiency of the Hyper-Threadyng, especially that it is a useless load of each carrot with two operations. Efficiency can be no more than 30% and not always. Should I turn off this function or not? If I have to, I need to know how. After all, there are not these settings in the BIOS of my laptop (HP Envy 15 j-001er).

P.S. This thread has been moved to storage > General for laptops - pavilions, Presario. -Forum moderator hp

    > There is not these settings in the BIOS of my laptop

Then you can not turn it off.

    But don't you worry.

If the performance with Hyper-Threading disabled technology is 100%, then with Hyper-Threading active technology, the heart of processor can achieve a level of performance which is between 100 and 130%, depending on the characteristics of the workload.

    In the first generations of Intel processor with Hyper-Threading functionality, some workloads could cause a Hyper-Threading performance drops to<100%, however="" that="" was="" fixed="" in="" the="" prescott="" architecture.="" the="" prescott="" architecture="" was="" released="" in="" 2004="" -="" that="" is,="" 10="" years="" ago.="" modern="" intel="" processors="" with="" hyper-threading="" enabled="" should="" always="" perform="" at="" least="" as="" well="" as="" with="" hyper-threading="">

  • More physical cores vs less with hyper-threading

I'm sure that this has been answered before, but is it better to have more physical cores, or I can get the same performance with half of the carrots but enable hyper-threading technology?  It is of course a discussion of type AMD vs Intel...

    Thank you!

    Hi friend

    Visualize this:

You are in a supermarket and a bonehead out a checkbook to write a check.

You have a gallon of milk and a $5 ticket in your hand.

The Fund puts the first transaction on hold while the old lady wrote the check and treat your transaction. You go out, it ends by the check writer.

That's the theory behind the HT. If a thread stops, it can perform a second thread on the same kernel. But the problem is that it can only manage a thread on any cycle, so it depends on inefficiencies in executing 'slide in this teaching of the second.'

Now, imagine that the grocery store stops take control. Efficiency is increased, the main thread has more effective, but it is less likely for this second operation to occur. If you wait longer with your milk.

Would you rather have a cashier multitasking or more open channels? If the company is light in the store and transactions are small, the cashier multitasking could be allowed.

But if it's Saturday afternoon, you want only to open more lanes due to heavy traffic.

HT works well in loads of light work where the traffic is "burst" and ineffective. But if the workloads increases (and I believe that we all have more work to do on our systems than ever) so the benefits of HT begin to slip and the benefits of dedicated hearts really shines.

  • Can I print the hyper links in my emails?

HP e-Print is fine if I receive an e-mail with an attachment that I want to print... but what happens if the sender is simply a hyper link (for content discussion) in the body of the e-mail message.  It would be great if to set up my account that I could choose... "Hyper links to print", if I could not print links if I made the message of great importance...

I don't think that this is possible. And I don't think that can be applied too. What happens if the email you received to several links? The printer would print all the links? Seems complicated. If it's a good idea for the future.

  • Hardware virtualization enabled on the platform of workstation Hyper V works ok with 7 not with 8

Last week I got an equipped HP XW 6600 renovated workstation of two-processor Xeon E5450 Quad Cores. I played with Windows 2008 R2 Server Evaluation edition and was able to run the Hyper-V platform and run on a Windows 8 Pro evaluation version and a version of Fedora Linux.

Just this morning I put on day of Windows 7 Pro x 64 for Windows 8 Pro x 64, with hardware virtualization enabled in BIOS.

The Hyper-V platform worked well in Windows 2008 R2 Server, but on my new install of Windows 8 Pro (not the trial version but a good licensed one)

The Hyper-V platform feature is grey.

If you move you mouse a message appears:

Cannot install Hyper-V: the processor does not have BATTEN (second-level address translation capabilities. My HP got two Xeon E5450 Quad Core processors.

    What is happening here.

The solution... I found it myself:

    http://social.technet.Microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7704.client-hyper-v-survival-guide.aspx

Initially the message on the internet is that a Hyper V client on a Windows 8 machine requires a processor that has capabilities SLAT (Second level Address Translation). In my case, I have a HP XW6600 with two Xeon Quad Cores - E5450 workstation and how wonderful they are... no SLAT.

The best way I've found that works is the link above.

What you have to do is go to the command line by typing in the search (Windows key + W) charm and the search for CMD.exe and then run as administrator.

Then go to the command-line - C command prompt and type in there, Dism / online Feature /featurename:microsoft - Hyper-V-all, then press on [Enter]

Your system will reboot, reboot, and check all of the features of Windows and you will see the check mark and is more gray.

    Hello

Hyper-Threading technology is supported by CPU and it of not possible to disable it, if this option is not available in the BIOS.

    See this Intel Info page:

  • HP Pavilion P6 - 2317c: a CM Hyper 212 cooler Evo incorporates in a case of 2317c?

    Hi guys,.

I'm considering upgrading the processor in my 2317c of a 5800 k a10 Amd APU
However, I understand that this APU is hot? What I read
the cooler that should be used for the new apu is the CM Hyper 212 Evo.

The question is whether or not if there is enough room in the computer
case for this cooler? It seems to be big enough! If there is not enough
room, I could use a different CPU cooler?

    Answers appreciated!

    Thank you...

    Hello

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO does not fit in most of the cases of HP.  You need 6.2 "from from the top of the processor inside the edge of the removable side panel.  Make a measure if you have doubts.

The standard heat HP sink cooler is designed to support the installed processors.

Something like that is controlled by the BIOS and if that option exists, you might find in the BIOS settings.
However, if its not available in the BIOS, you would be able to disable s Intel Hyper - Threading Technology

    Hello

This option may be turned on in the BIOS, but only if this option is available in the BIOS.

To access the BIOS, you will need to press F2 (to ensure that win 8 would be subject to a full stop, not a closed hybrid)

But if the BIOS would not provide any option, you won't be able to toggle the Hyper-V

  • Problem with Hyper-V (Windows 8.1 on HP Probook 450 G0)

Hello community HP. I recently bought a HP Probook 450 G0 (i5 - 3230M + HD8750), after which I came across a problem and could not find any solution is linked. Here are the steps to reproduce the problem:

-Install a fresh Pro Windows 8.1 - sweetness

-Activate the virtualization technology (VTx) via the BIOS - OK

-Connect to Windows and enable the Hyper-V technology

-Restart the computer - problem appears.

Now, my computer takes forever to connect to Windows, with an indicator of spinning and the Windows logo.

I searched through several similar questions as Gigabyte motherboard problem or and couldn't find something that works. Most possibly related thread is this one.

I upgraded my BIOS to Version: F.25 (October 24, 2013) 19/08/2013 initial version, but it has led to nothing.

I need Hyper-V for Windows Phone SDK 8.0 (Windows Phone emulator 8). I hope for a solution as soon as this prevents me from working on this computer.

    Hi PremRanjanDev.

I've posted my question hereand got some support, I guess this is the right place. It is not completely solve my problem however.

  • HP ENVY M6-1106er: Windows 8 Pro hang up to begin after adding Hyper-V role

    Hello.

Have a problem with HP ENVY M6-1106er

After the OEM Win8 upgrade to the Pro version, I added the Hyper-V role for my system and restart the laptop.

After the restart boot OS freezes on the screen with the HP logo and rotating circles.

If I disable AMD Virtualization in the BIOS - system starts, but the hypervisor does not work.

With virtualization enabled in the system BIOS will not start with the Hyper-V role installed.

    Help, please.

    Hello Sir,

Here's what you need to do.

    1. enter in the BIOS setup and define virtualization as being disabled and reboot the system.

    2. after starting windows 8, enter the control panel and remove the bluetooth driver.

    3. download and install Ralink Bluetooth driver 9.2.101.10 version (SP59632)

    4. restart the system and reactivate the virtualization technology.

    I hope this helps.
