Hyper-V Manager

Afternoon,

Very rarely, I work with Hyper-V, but I was wondering if anyone would be able to help. We currently have a virtual Linux server sitting on our network. I was wondering if there is a way to reset a server if it is sitting on a certain percentage of CPU Hyper-V. We have a problem with this server where it will lock up and require restart. Because it is used as essential to the job. I want this automatic restart without having moaned me at by the powers on the floor.

I have them informed them that he needs a change, but as always, money is one aspect that I'm stuck with it. Any help would be appreciated.

  • New to 8.1 and wanting to run Hyper V and 'try MS server 2012 ".

    Hello

Built a new PC and dropped in Enterprise 8.1... added Hyper v and downloaded the copy 'try' MS Server R2 2012.

I pulled the low R2 for Windows Server 2012 on the Technet Evaluation site and got the package: 130928-2229_server_serverdatacentreeval_en-us. VIRTUAL HARD DRIVE

I got going and he ran a few days (course worked very well, taking 70-410) then a few days later, I just clicked and deleted the instance of the virtual machine in the Hyper-V Manager because I wanted to change the config was not drives or anything else - error 1

Tried to re - install again and, of course, no joy, tried a few things and vain for 2 days, now this morning spent half a day, re-installation of 8.1 again to try to get the D/L will again... I see little thing Assistant account of that 8.1 restored my profile so maybe that's why the Hyper V ALWAYS failed to load the virtual hard disk.      Just a guess...  Error 2?

Back in the new Hyper-V install this morning in the reinstalled 8.1 and STILL get the error when I try again:

-Open the Manager Hyper of V

    -Machine virtual acts-Import

    -Dialog wizard - following

-Locate the folder - new folder on the hard disk

-Put in the path = C:\ HyperV files (there is a copy of 130928-2229. *.) Disk virtual hard in the folder)

    -Then click on select file-

    S ' poster in the path = C:\ HyperV can - next

    -Get the Assistant barf:

Hyper-V not found of VMS to import from location "C:\HyperV Files\".

The file "C:\ HyperV Virtual Machines\' is not found.  You might not have permission to access.

So, it is always throwing the error because I crashed two days when I deleted the original installation of work I guess.

Then it's because I've used the file 'try' once and I pooched when even I have re-installed 8.1?  Or is it a combo of 8.1

Assistant to put something in the drive?  Or can I go back and re - define something from the test site, or what?

I have now lost 3 days fart around this problem... am I pooched?   I do not have a complete MSDN Dev account so that I could

probably manually install a copy of the R2 2012 legit keys into a new virtual machine on PC, but y at - it another way

for the evaluation copy go even faster!

    Cheers

  • The Group PS6100XS and Hyper-V Server 2012: migration of storage between LUNS corrupts VM

Well, I'm puzzled! Summer hit my head against this whole week. Basically, ranging from a virtual machine clustered LUN on the Bay EqualLogic corrupts the virtual machine. Here is my configuration:

    1. SAN 1: PS6100XS 6.0.1 firmware, 2 LUNS configured as CSV, 1 as a quorum disk
    2. SAN 2: FreeNAS 8.3.0, 2 LUN (ZFS-formatted, for what it's worth)
    3. Server 1: Dell R310 running Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V installed feature. 4 network cards: 2 made team for traffic LAN, 2 for iSCSI with HIT KIT 4.5 configured for MPIO.
    4. Server 2: Old box SuperMicro running Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V feature installed. 2 network cards: 1 for LAN traffic, 1 for iSCSI with HIT KIT 4.5 installed
    5. Created and all cluster validation tests passed
    Here's what works:
    1. Ranging from a virtual machine of the LUN if there is no activity on the VHDX
    2. Move a VM all LUN the EqualLogic to any number of unit logic FreeNAS or vice versa
    3. Move a VM between LUNS on the FreeNAS
    4. Move a VM between LUNS on the EqualLogic BEFORE I created the cluster (just using Hyper-V Manager, not the Failover Cluster Manager)
This is what kills the VM whenever:
    1. Create a virtual machine through the Failover Cluster Manager - is not matter which node owns the storage or the VM - tried all combinations
    2. Take an active virtual machine, power and move a LUN EqualLogic to another EqualLogic LUN. The move signals the success, but the VM blue screen at the end of the move will and will no longer be able to start. It's basically fried.
BTW, I tried also to disable one of the iSCSI NIC on the R310 - what does not help either. Any ideas? I have a case goes with the support of Dell EqualLogic, but so far they have been puzzled. Anyone got something like this works yet?

OK, after Dell tried about 5 different times to tell me that my setup was not supported (actually claimed that EPA software was not supported!) I finally got someone who gave me workaround: disabling ODX by changing the key "reg" HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\FilterSupportedFeaturesMode from 0 to 1. This "fix", but it also takes one of the most interesting features of the 2012 Server + EqualLogic: ODX! With active ODX, I can move 20 GB in< 1="" sec.="" with="" it="" disabled,="" it="" takes="" around="" 2="" minutes,="" depending="" on="" network="">

  • Loss of XPS12 networking\internet, 8 Windows Hyper-V on wifi

My laptop the host is the xps12 with Windows 8, and I connect to the internet via wi - fi. I have a computer virtual Hyper - V Windows 8. In Hyper-V Manager, I have a single virtual switch with a connection type "external network."

When I load my Web VM works for a short time within the virtual machine, and then it stops arbitrarily. Once it stopped, I go to the host and can browse the internet. A few minutes later the internet host will stop working. If I go back to the internet, virtual machine then began to work again. It seems that only one instance of my internet connection (host or VM) works at once and they change after a while. If I reset the chosen external network in the Hyoer-v Manager for nothing and then back to the Intel value above it begins to work immediately in the virtual machine. If I stop the virtual machine, my host, internet connectivity is not immediately, but if I disconnect and reconnect to my wifi it reconnects.

Does anyone have an idea what night be the cause and would be able to offer a solution?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Windows 8 Hyper-V w / Windows Vista Home comments

Is there a reason Vista home is not supported from a perspective of integrated services? I should be able to install any OS and have it install as usual, if the operating system is still supported by Microsoft or not. It is the purpose to run virtual machines.

    Hello

Unfortunately, none of the Home's Windows versions are supported on Hyper-V.

    Overview of Hyper-V:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831531.aspx

Windows 7 supports - Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate (32-bit and 64-bit) editions. Upgrade integration services after you configure the operating system in the virtual machine.

Support for Windows Vista - with Service Pack 2 (SP2). Business, company and complete, including the N and KN editions. Install integration services after you configure the operating system in the virtual machine.

Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3) - Professional. Install integration

services after you install the operating system in the virtual machine.

    Hyper-v:

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-V#cite_note-hyperv2012technetoverview-31

No support for editions of Windows.
The Hyper-v management tools are not compatible with Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista Edition Home Premium. This is also the case for the editions of Windows 7 (Home Premium family basic and Starter).

I have Windows 8 32-bit but supported processor i3 Intel 64-bit. I read that 64 bit OS is required to create a virtual machine. But I want to create virtual machines on 32-bit Windows 8 only. Any way to do it?

You can install Hyper-V on the OS management tools that can make it able to manage the virtual machines on virtual servers remotely remote 32-bit. Installing Hyper-V on a 64-bit Client gives you full control to create and manage virtual machines through Hyper-V Manager who are either created locally or on remote servers.

    Concerning

  • Nested Hyper-V VM cannot ping the default gateway

    Hello

At first, I have to say that I don't consider myself an expert produced a VMware.

I've been struggling with my test environment nested for a while and finally decided to get help (I hope) of pros.

    Environment looks like this:

    • Physical VMware ESXi 5.1.0 ("Promiscuous" mode enabled for the vSwitch)
      • Couple of virtual machines, one of them being Hyper-V (Windows Server 2012 R2) server that is configured for nested virtualization - 10.106.5.27
        • On the Hyper-V server, I have a VM in Windows Server 2012 R2 - 10.106.5.28

Hyper-V server has a NETWORK card and full network connectivity (internal and external: Internet) and in the Hyper-V Manager, a virtual switch is configured in external mode.

VM is connected to this virtual switch via a virtual network adapter. It has public static IP assigned with mask subnet, default gateway, and DNS even as a Hyper-V host. I ping times by IP and DNS name of the host of VM and vice versa. I cannot ping other resources of the virtual machine as the default gateway and DNS ("request timed") servers out. State of the network in the network and sharing Center is VM:

    • unidentified network
    • Public network
    • type of access: no internet access

When I run the tool for troubleshooting problems on VM, he says "the default gateway is not available". As I said I can not ping.

I think that all my connectivity problems are caused by the unavailability of the gateway by default on the virtual machine, but I have no idea how to solve this problem. When you change the settings of the VM card from static to DHCP I can't even ping on the Hyper-V host.

All servers are joined to the same domain (VM has been migrated to ESXi, so he joined to the domain before, but I can't connect to using domain accounts, probably due to network issue).

I hope I described the problem enough, but please let me know if you need more information.

Try to activate forged passes also on the vSphere vSwitch as you do for the Promiscuous Mode.

  • Windows 8 + 9 VMware + Hyper-V conflict?

    Hello world

I am facing a problem when you try to start a VM Windows Server 2008 R2 on my Windows 8 Pro RTM x 64 laptop.

The error message is the following: "VMware Workstation and Hyper-V are not compatible. Remove the Hyper-V system role before running VMware Workstation. »

I tried to disable Hyper-v using the Hyper-V management application, but the error remains.

    Someone help me please?

    Thank you

Disable the Hyper-V role is not enough and you may need to create a boot entry extra on the host computer to start without the support of Hyper-V. Please take a look at Execution nested VMs (VMware Workstation under Hyper-V) and the mentioned link here.

  • VMware ESXi 5.1 can run Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 SMV also, nice!

I created a detailed instructions (with screenshots and video) using GA-level code here:

    http://tinkertry.com/ESXi-5-1-running-hyper-v-Server-2012

using the "basic" version of the new Hyper-V, with tips and ideas from these forums and other sites on the previous beta tests.

    Here's the gist:

    • Create a "Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (64-bit)" VM, using the default Configuration
    • Right click on the new virtual machine and material virtual upgrade to Version 9
    • twist the VMX, adding these 4 lines:

    MCE. Enable = TRUE

    Hypervisor.CPUID.v0 = FALSE
    featMask.vm.hv.capable = Min:1″ «»
    VHV.enable = TRUE

    • Remember, it is assigned to a network where the vSwitch is Promiscuous Mode to Accept
    • Turn on the new machine virtual of Hyper-V
    • perform the default installation and configure Hyper-v, hard IP-code if you wish, create an Admin user and password name that matches a customer's system
    • create a Windows 8 'customer' VM, as the Hyper-V Manager takes just a few seconds to add
    • Difficulty of COM security on the client system
    • use Hyper - V Manager this virtual machine to connect to Hyper-V, and then...
    • create a Hyper-V hosted Virtual Machine, can connect you and turn it on to test

I'm looking forward to suggestions or alternative methods, but for the moment, it was the only way I could get it to work in my own laboratory, thought that others might not want to try to replicate this exercise.

Windows Hyper-V (not supported) is a selection of OS comments available through the user interface in Workstation 9.  It defines the guestOS to 'winhyperv '.  Although the selection of the BONES of Hyper-V is not available through the user interface of 5.1 ESXi, I understand that support it is always there.

  • Best method to save an EPS of Hyper-V. With Appassure.

    Hello

I have several doubts about what is the best way to back up a hyper-v with Appassure ENV, let's say:

    If I have:

    2 hyper-v servers:

    Hyper - v1-> three VM with = 1 Exchange, 1 Lync and 1 DC

    Hyper - v2-> two VMS with = 1 Sharepoint, 1 SC, 1 MSSQL

What is the best/recommended way to back up this type of environment, if I need:

    1 - recover databases MSSQL

2 - Retrieve Messages and data bases for the Exchange.

3 - get the Docs and entire Sites, and the Sharepoint farm.

4 - AA, I can't retrieve the unique objects of AD?, otherwise. I have to use the recovery to AD Manager?

5 - retrieve the Complete VM for exchange, sharepoint, etc...

According what I need, I could do this:

    A. install the AA Agent on each Hyper-V host and each virtual MAchine running on Hyper-v.

    However, my doubts are:

    * With just the agent installation at the level of Hyper-v, AA will see all VM?... and I'll be able to perform a recovery of each virtual computer with a status of consistate?

    * If the test is not (AA will not see any of the VM in Hyper-v) I see no reason to install the agent at the level of Hyper-v... but inside each virtual machine, in this case that AA will protect the entire VM and AA will be aware of the application running on it, right?

Thank you very much for any comments that can help me understand what is the best way to do it.

    Michael.

Hi fdezmichael, Yes, I misunderstood your question and gave you the wrong information, I'm terribly sorry:

    * With just the agent installation at the level of Hyper-v, AA will see all VM?... and I'll be able to perform a recovery of each virtual computer with a status of consistate?

OK - you can use the export feature virtual in Appassure 5 recovery of Hyper-V virtual machines in a consistent state.

This is not quite correct.  Level of Hyper-v backup will not allow 5 Appassure see or export the virtual machines, you must back up the virtual machines using the virtual Appassure Agent to use the export feature in the center console, even once, I'm terribly sorry.

As an alternative to use backup data you set up now would be to:

1 mount the recovery Points Appassure volume containing VHD files

2 copy the VHD files on the Hyper-V Server

    3. build a new Virtual Machine in Hyper-V Manager using the VHD files that you copied from recovery points of Appassure

Note: make sure you don't overwrite existing VHD files on the system until the new VM is thrown and confirmed the work.  If you're low on space, move the existing VHD files off the machine to another location and replacement VHD files in Appassure recovery points.

Also as I said in my post for more redundancy at the level of the OS Hyper-visiere only back up the operating system and boot volumes so that you can retrieve the form any failure of system volume level.  Backup of current data on volumes of data of Hyper-v can be archived off the coast to another location and then deleted from the repository Appassure to retrieve the necessary space.

I'm terribly sorry for the confusion and please accept my apologies for the misunderstanding.

  • To access the local resources of a created Server R2 Microsoft HyperV 2012

    Hi out there.

I wonder if someone can help me with a situation I have here.

I have a copy of the Hyper-V Manager 6.3.9600 worm and two virtual, MS 2012R2 servers.

What I want to do is access the files on my local machine via Server interface.

Some resources suggest that you click on "Show options" once I click and highlight a machine especially in the management interface... but I do ' t see how to access this elusive Gold Nugget.

I activated the strategy Mode of Session, improved in the Server tab and I activated the Session Mode improved tab user under Hyper-V settings.

So I ask this question... What can I do (or find) next to the move to the next step?

  • Running one of the virtual machines on two physical servers at the same time. Server 2012

    Hello!

I'll admit that I'm not exactly an expert Server nor I claim to be. I could use some help with the installation I build and eventually moving customers to server setup. In an effort to try to describe my question, here is a first draft of what looks like my setup.
Rackstation 1 is therefore a Synology Rackstation, which runs high-availability Rackstation 2. Directly, cabledtogether, Rackstation 2 works passively and constantly updates a copy of Rackstation 1 Rackstation 1 failure.
Host 1 running server 2012 and therefore host 2. Currently I have 6 servers virtualized on Rackstation 1, using Hyper-V Manager of 1 host. I created ISCSI storage for every server virtualized LUNS and currently have ISCSI targets to be used with host 1 pointing to the LUN. I created another series of ISCSI for Host 2 targets as well.  The idea is to have 2 host run the Hyper-V Manager and be able to connect to the virtualized servers same Rackstation 1 just like host 1 is currently. That way if nothing ever happens to the host 1, host 2 quickly usable for servers. All that seems to be able to do with host 2 is create new virtualized servers, instead of link those already created. Currently, regarding the RAM for virtualized servers, they use host 1.
So, is there a way for host 2 to have the same virtual servers as host 1?  What I need to change my configuration to achieve this? IM open to ideas and advice on how to reconcile that far.

  • Envy 15-j101ex: HP Envy 15-j101ex - Windows Pro 10 x 64 - HyperV - startup freeze

I have a laptop HP Envy 15-j101ex.  It is running 64 bit Windows 10 Pro.  There the last HP BIOS: Insyde F.65

I need to turn on Hyper-V (hypervisor hyper-V).  I added the Windows features (enabled in the Control Panel Add Windows features): platform Hyper-V and the Hyper-V management tools.

Work for the Hyper-V hypervisor, virtualization hardware support must be enabled in the BIOS.  The laptop supports hardware support for virtualization.  But when "Virtualization technology" is enabled in the BIOS (with active UEFI), it ends with a freeze on startup with the circle of rotation (under the logo of HP) and the laptop won't boot.  Virtualization technology must be in the OFF position or the will of the laptop does not start.

I checked on the Microsoft site and ran the tools proposed: coreinfo.exe, check the SLAT, DEP status checked.  Everything on the laptop is as specified in the requirements for Hyper-V.

    > - what someone faced this problem?

    > all suggested fixes?

Note: I've seen suggestions to turn Bluetooth off and uninstall the driver. But if I uninstall the Bluetooth drivers, Windows will automatically reinstall the Bluetooth drivers after a reboot. And if the BT device is just disabled in Device Manager (without uninstalling drivers), problem (defective start).

    Thank you very much!

    GH

    Problem finally solved manually!

Cause: Windows 10 and HP site give BAD (old) version of the Mediatek (Ralink) drivers for this laptop HP Envy (15-j101ex).  Had to manually search for drivers updated on ALL HP websites.  And after many wasted hours (trying to locate the drivers and trying to disable bluetooth constantly) found the Mediatek drivers updated.  Please see the links below.

    Solution:

Download the drivers for the adapter Mediatek Wireless LAN RT3290:

    http://h20564.www2.HP.com/hpsc/SWD/public/detail?swItemId=ob_150624_1#tab3

Download drivers for Mediatek Bluetooth adapter RT3290:

    http://h20566.www2.HP.com/hpsc/SWD/public/detail?swItemId=vc_159313_1#tab3

Install the drivers and then turn it ON "Virtualization technology" in the BIOS and you should be good to go!

HP support could be more USEFUL:

The web site for this laptop should provide access to the latest drivers for Windows 10.  And the database of drivers window must be updated so that Windows 10 provieds the LATEST drivers for HP laptops.
