  the problem is that I tried to open a flashdrive in a right click and selecting open with--> itunes. as soon as I clicked on this all the files seem to have converted to itunes. Even the recovery system open in itunes. I went back through the process and this time opened with internet explorer, which then changed all the files to the internet explore.   The current versions of Firefox have allowed a built-in PDF Viewer that has all of the features that other PDF as Adobe Reader readers have or can not work properly otherwise.

  You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) to Preview in Firefox to use Adobe Reader software or set always ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications.

  You can set the pref pdfjs.disabled true on the topic: config page to disable the build-in the PDF Viewer.
  
  You can also check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref and remove the part application/pdf, if any.

  Have you looked at the article Knowledge Base, what to do if Firefox will play all of the sounds? There are many good advice on troubleshooting in there. You might have its just accidentally disabled for Firefox.

  There is also a chance it's a plugin problem. If the first article does not help, take a look at common audio problems and graphics issues.
