Updates have been through to 4 am cst, but when I turned on my pc today, Windows Update showed that I needed to install updates 3 mentioned above. I tried all day to make install, but each attempt failed. I clicked the button 'Try Again' and always updates does not pass.

I deleted the files that I no longer use of haven't used in a year or two. I also deleted some files that I have no use for out the files in the folder my documents. I even emptied my recycling bin to help clear up some disk deespace, still nothing.

I tried the suggestions that are currently on the forum, but do not always help.

When I went to manually download updates an error pops up saying "Package of Installation failed."

Help, please. I need of new suggestions or something.

I had to disable the "User Account Control" (UAC), which allows you to run as administrator in Vista.  After that I turned it off, all 4 of these updates installed and it doesn't require manual installation.   Follow these steps:

In the case of Vista view:

1.) go to start; Control Panel; "User accounts and family safety"; User accounts.
2.) click on 'Enable user account control or disable' (last point on the page)
3.) clear the checkbox "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer" and click "OK."
4.) restart the computer, and then run the installation of the system and they work.

If you are in Classic view:

1.) go to start; Control Panel; Security Center
2 screen.) in the "Windows Security Center", go to the last item "User Account Control" and click the button to turn off.

You can also see the security shield in your Start menu.  You can also access the UAC via this.

After that the installation of the system have been updated, make sure that you go back and turn the UAC "" and then restart your computer so that unauthorized updates do not occur.   Always try this turn off if install doesn't work.

The solution that worked there was rename the CATROOT2 folder and the SofwareDistribution folder in the Windows directory in the Windows > System32 directory and reboot. This solution came from the Microsoft site. After that, I was able to download and install 50 of 51 updates. A fails repeatedly: update for Windows XP (KB2686509) security. I get error code 0 x 8007005. I tried several fixes, including one designated for error 0 x 8007003 (rename file) download at download.old as well as the use of aggressive mode on Microsoft Fixit. Always fails to update. All other updates installed correctly, including a new this morning, but of course update continues offering that failed. Any ideas on how to get this installed? This is a relatively new, so I'm not sure that the problem is that it is already there, but the first failure was around 40 of the 51 when I check the history update file. • Update for Windows Vista (641, 80070641 codes)

I'm having a similar problem to the long string of Bob and Maurice detective.
I think I have SP2, but do not know how to check this.
microsoft Setup seems not to be present, but errors and messages in the list of services on the computer.
1 of 9 updates of microsoft succeeds? and 8 fail, which seems at odds with the symptoms.  Other package programs will not install either.

Last suggestion of Maurice, repeated below fails with the message "Windows Installer Service is not to be accessible"

    1. open Internet Explorer (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336 [ignore the title & symptoms].

1B. do disappear/close the window pop up "Automated troubleshooting"!-then...

1 c. without taking into account possible similar, or '' not recommended '' warnings run difficulty he 50202 in modes DEFAULTand then AGGRESSIVE. [1]

2 reboot & then make a new race of updates Windows and make a custom scan (a manual check for updates.)

Take only the critical or important updates.

    ===============================================
[1] running the difficulty in AGGRESSIVE mode will delete your Update History [i.e. to the Windows Update Web site when you do a review of the installation previous story] but not the list of installed updates in XP or Vista/Windows 7 remove programs programs & Features.

IF you have a subsequent failure of Windows Update, please create your own new Question.

And I would ask if the solution from Mauritius to SP1 would work for SP2?   It seemed to me that a solution had been found.

Last suggestion from other threads block:

    Hello

What is the error message you get when you try to install Windows install 4.5?

Given that windows install 4.5 if system is windows vista service pack 1, service pack 2 is installed it will not install.

You can uninstall SP2 and try to install win Installer 4.5, and then try to install the update.

The steps I've already done: clean boot. downloaded and installed the update manually; high my privileges as a user profile; Services activated window important; disabled user account control; Run the component tool to reset Windows Update in default; Not Windows Installer and then re-recorded Windows Installer; use the System File Checker. installed the updated system preparation tools.

    Any help appreciated

After reading the process to carry out a repair for Vista installation, I was not confident I could do given my lack of COMPUTER skills and feared that I would have done something wrong.  But while browsing the site there are other suggestions that I adopted. For example, I downloaded Registry Booster, ran the System File Checker (which I had already done but thought, no harm to do again), and other suggestions are in response to similar questions like mine.  I also ran an another Chk Dsk (I also run this previously).  To restart, as he was driving through the verification process, he said,' windows replaced bad cluster in file name \window\winsxs\x8A9C8~1.226\ 8915cambria.ttc'.  And I was happy, because it was the file you advised has been damaged.  I don't know exactly how it happed, as I said, I had perfomred chk dsk a numer of times before.  I was successfully able to install the update for Window Vista KB980248!  I was so happy after all the anxiety.

Thank you very much Andrew, for your time, assistance and patience. Very much appreciated.

Original title: I was not able to download the updates of Windows XP since May 9. Downloads keep failing.

If you have been playing around with the settings, you'd be wise to resinstall.  All that are "machine accounts" which are automatically defined by the system to the evolution of random passwords.  If you have accounts of changes of ntauthority to other accounts, you perhaps weakened the security level of the operating system.

No it's not a portal, that even Microsoft doesn't know what are these passwords.
