I am running xp family on an old PC 7yr. Task mgr shows Im using 100% CPU resources veryenen, resulting in slow or frozen PC. Seems there are 60 at bottom. KS
How can I reduce the number of processes running in the background? 100% CPU often allows. Thank you
Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in. Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.) You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.
You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory. This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.
More information are among the volunteers S. Stanley, hope this helps.

Task Mgr shows 'System' constantly using 50% CPU, with nothing running
I have a laptop Sony Vaio VGN-FW495J with Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 CPU 2.53Ghz - no slouch of a machine when I bought 2 + years ago, running 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.
Recently I had suspicions that his performance was being affected (taking a long time to get to files from Windows Explorer, and then open them, etc.) even though I am running an SSD correctly configured, have a full 8 GB of memory, and my Windows experience index is average upward.I went into the Windows Task Manager and saw that my "CPU usage" was slightly more than 50%. Then, I went and killed all the processes not essential, but - even after you leave my system "settle" (i.e. completely go & literally - intact) for several hours, I observed in the Manager of tasks Windows as the 'system' (PID = '4'; Description = "NT Kernel and System") was the culprit - it is this process that used consistently about 50% of my total CPU. NOTE: just to be clear - this is very unusual - I've never seen that happen before. Can't understand it - from a point of view user/GUI, the system is not some thing (I'm not under any user or background programs and I have not a lot of foreign running Services - in fact, outside the 2012 AVG, NO Services non - MS are running).QUESTION: It all MS Windows utility - or third party that anyone participating in these forums - may recommend to "pick apart" / "retail", whatever it is specifically that the 'system' is use that is only 50% of my CPU?FIGURED IT OUT!
There was a "New Software" driver, Inc. for a product called "-Lock Folder", which is used to be able to assign a password to access to the windows folders, which was invoked by the kernel of the Win7 system. I uninstalled this product problem and hop, disappeared - not more than 50% CPU used by the system. How I did it:I couldn't find any software or features 'Xperf', "Windows Process Monitor" or "Windows Process Explorer" that allowed me to 'draw' the Thread ID incriminated the responsible driver. However, Windows Process Explorer is displayed information for all pilots being charge/invoked for a given process - including the process of core of 'system '.I just and slowly traveled through all 173 of them and went thought on what drivers non-Microsoft could possibly have something to do with locking of resources - a clue given to me by the start address for the TID offending Process Explorer:"ntoskrnl.exe"! "KeAcquireInStackQueuedSpinLockAtDcpLevel+ 0x1e0.Normal "human heuristic logic; Thanks for the tip on Process Explorer JW - I had already installed but had not really thought about using it.Could have lent oath, I saw this problem until recently well - and I had this product installed for several months - Oh Well, that's going to just be one of those pursuing "mysteries of Windows' - which provides for the possibility of thousands of geeks to be employee - -

Hello Ian,
Have you tried the Task Manager to end? Right-click on the taskbar and select Start Task Manager. Locate the application and click on end task (at the bottom of the page). I wonder if it's a piece of malware running, or even a virus. If it will not be closed, or starts just backup again, consider using these scanners:

Hi, after upgrading to win 8 to 8.1 win my converter (Silkypix) raw program running extremely slow and consuming 100% of CPU. VAIO all updates completed, all Win 8.1 updates made. ATM Radeon HD 7500 M / 7600M (Maj) with 2 GB RAM dedicated.
In addition, the fan works almost all the time that was not the case with Win 8.
Vaio SVE1712Z1EB with 8 GB of RAM, i7 processor execution.
SeanQ, after some time looking for a solution I finally found it on one of the vaio sites forum: it is the Radeon driver that must be installed from the Vaio support site. NOT the driver the latest AMD site. It does not solve the problem.
I did as follows: device, graphics card, Uninstall Manager. Did not help. Went to AMD in Program files. Setup.exe has begun, but instead of installation, clicked on uninstall. In this way, I uninstalled the driver former AMD and bad news from the site of AMD. I had to manually uninstall the driver in Device Manager, several times. Finally, I went to the site of Vaio and tried updating the driver. He failed. Reset. Manually start the update of the Vaio AMD driver. Finally it worked.
The fan is now more or less normal speed.
Overall, I spent 15 hours looking for this solution. How much is my time worth? Just joking, I'm happy that I found the solution.

the program cannot start because d3dx9_43.dll is missing on your computer
Hi Albert,
Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
From your description, it seems that you can't run 3D family tree because d3dx9_43.dll is missing.
I'll be happy to help you. This problem could be due with corrupt Microsoft DirectX.
I would be grateful if you could answer the following question:
1. did you of recent changes made to your computer?
2 when was the last time it was working fine?
The d3dx9_43.dll file is one of the many files in the DirectX software collection. Because DirectX is used by most windows based advanced graphics programs, d3dx9_43.dll errors usually only appear when using these programs.
I suggest to follow the steps below and we update on the State of the question.
Method 1:
You can run the System File Checker.

Method 2:

Basically, the computer in question belongs to my 85 year old mother and she has had a computer at home and used it for years - all members of the family, in fact, had access to it. In 2008, she came into possession of a new/different computer (the had not yet the same installer) given to him by his granddaughter-29 years old - who lived w / it before dying in a car accident in 2008. However, shortly before this, her granddaughter, had moved her boyfriend and children and almost 2 years later, it's still there, I had become increasingly concerned about the situation and now the computer part of it. Shortly after his death, he asked if he could put in place the new or better computer and MOM agreed. We did not have any real significant change to begin with other than for everyone to have their own login/user block and I always helped my mother w / use as I always had. Awhile back, I went to use it one day and found that my user account has been changed to limited and my password removed and then a week ago when I asked to please him to get her back amendment he refused and said there may be 1 Administrator account. I tend to believe this is not true, although I am not an expert. I don't know I used to have a computer w / XPPro and had separate user accounts/access on it and was also Mothers set up w / both us at administrator level and of course the computer seemed to work very well. My mother, of course, doesn't know much about computers, is not to get involved. This of course leaves me very limited in what I can and can't do on the computer and on top of that I discovered recently still it runs w / no antivirus on that program. I would of course appreciate all responses, can someone give me w / this problem - I'm on a limited, fixed income and simply do not have the money or I'll call a service repair computer, etc.
Wow. It's a saga. First, back up any data you want to save, and then do a clean installation of Windows because it worked without any protection. The chances are extremely high that the computer is infected while only a clean installation will be useful. Once Windows is installed, you need to install the drivers for all your hardware, update to the current Service Pack 3 and all Windows updates. Install an antivirus. I recommend ESET NOD32 (commercial) or Avast free.

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Reinstalling_Windows - what you will need at handTo answer your question, there is no limitation on having more than one administrative user account. However, there are no technical solutions to family problems. You can clean this computer and set it up properly, but if the buddy has access, you will soon be back to where you are now.

We set the size cancellation tablspace to 2 GB with undo_retention duration of 1 hour.
We get ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment number 51 with the name ' _SYSSMU51$ ' too small error when running the purge process.
I want to know if there are expired blocks available and fly count for blocks remaining is 0, so why we get error ORA-01555.
According to below the result of the query:
EXPIREDBLKS = 138616
UNXPSTEALCNT = 0
set line 2000 SELECT * FROM dba_hist_UNDOSTAT where ssolderrcnt <> 0

> so why we get error ORA-01555.
The session that signals the ORA-01555 is the victim; not the culprit.
This session is probably made a LONG run SELECT against other tables.
Done some session also DML against this same table and launches 'frequent' COMMIT (usually inside the LOOP).
Eliminate common VALIDATION & the ORA-01555 error no longer is.

need to run windows in safe mode with network to have browserws working properly. using IE and Firefox. Web site fisting comes in following correctly sites just waiting for the website tab help
If it works in Windows safe mode, then you have a problem with other software, maybe a security software or a system driver that runs on your computer.
It is possible that your security (firewall, antivirus) software blocks or limit Firefox or the process of plugin-container without you inform, possibly after the detection of changes (update) for the Firefox program.
Delete all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container in the permissions list in the firewall and leave your firewall again ask permission to get full unlimited access to the internet for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.

I want my pictures to download on my iCloud but I don't want all my previous photos on my phone because there are just a lot of space and I have run out of space. Can I disable the download of photo sharing but allow for photo streams to make this or how can I make this happen? I just want to still my photos go to my Mac and iCloud so I can have my photos without danger...
Thank you
N °
iCloud is a synchronization service, NOT off of storage of the unit.
You could cut the phone out of sync from your library. Just move them to your Mac and synchronize your Mac with iCloud. Now, you'll have plenty of space on your phone, but no pictures.
From your Mac, you can then make an album with photos that you want to access from your phone. This will require ongoing work, but will keep your clear phone in most of the time.
