I am running Xp. When I try to open a. PDF file, I get "not a Win32 application valid?

I run Windows XP.  When I try to open a. PDF file, I get "not a Win32 application valid?  The file type is SA4 SOF.  I try Adobe 10 but no luck.  Help would be appreciated.
