I bought windows 7 in a store, but my windows xp cannot read the dvd. can I download 7 and use the product key, rather than buy it again? I bought an old compaq desktop computer, and I want to update.
It's probably too late because you have unsealed the package, but as you have relatively minor glitch of the material do not have a DVD player, did you use the (free) Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to determine whether your computer hardware is capable of running Windows 7?

A little late to ask now?
You should still be able to log in Mode safe to backup your data.
You should not use your manufacturer to reformat/reinstall your system recovery system - if you do not have the disk and the recovery partition is not always work, then contact the manufacturer and see if you can order a set of disks on their part. You may also be able to order a series of a reputable third party provider, such as the the restaurant - disks.com

Windows 8 Beta - cannot verify the product key
Hi all
After you have installed Windows 8 beta last year on my laptop, I bought the upgrade to the full version of Windows 8 and received a product key by e-mail as part of the purchase or download. Now, I'm trying to use the same disk of Windows 8 Beta to install the OS on my desktop. After you enter the product key, I get a message saying "cannot verify the product key - check your installation media."
Can someone explain why the beta key does not work and if I get a new key?
Thank you
No, you can't, but what you can do is, use the following link to download and create the installation media that you can use to upgrade other computers.
Please note, if other computers are running versions of 32-bit or 64-bit, you will need to create a respective installation media corresponding to the architecture of the facilities running on these computers (32 or 64-bit):
If you must reinstall Windows 8 or you want to install it on one partition and you do not have installation media, you can create it using the installer of Windows 8. To create a support, you must use a PC running Windows 8.1, Windows 8, or Windows 7, and it must have the same architecture (32 or 64-bit) than the PC you want to install Windows 8.1 on. You will also need your product key of Windows 8.
You can usually find your product key in your online order information, in the confirmation email of your purchase, or on the DVD packaging. The product key will look something like this: XXXXX - XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
Once you have your product key and you are on a PC running Windows 7, Windows 8 or 8.1 of Windows, follow these steps:
Run the program installation of Windows 8 .
When you are prompted to run or save the file, choose run
When you are prompted to enter a product key, enter the 25-character product key, that you received when you purchased Windows 8.1.
When you are prompted to install Windows 8.1, select install by creating media and then click Next.
Select the type of media you want to use: either a Flash DRIVE or a DVD.
To create a USB flash driveClick on a USB flash drive.
Plug the USB key into a USB port on your PC.
When you are prompted, select the USB key that you want to use, and then click Next.
If you have files on the USB flash drive, it will remove them.
To create a DVDClick on the ISO file, and then select the location where to save the ISO file.
Insert a blank recordable DVD into your DVD drive.
Burn the ISO of the DVD file using Windows disc Image burner, or another program DVD burning.
Please note that you will have a unique individual license (product key) for each computer you want to upgrade.
You can buy additional product keys to:

New HDD installed - Windows constantly asking for the product key
HARD drive broke down, so I got a new HARD drive installed in the workshop for repairs a few months ago. Everything was fine until recently when Windows keeps always ask the product key to activate Windows. It is said that the license expires Dec. 27.
Do you know where to find this key?If your laptop has Windows 8 or higher, Microsoft codes the license on the hard drive rather than put a sticker on the base. Sounds like the repair people could have used a dubious copy to reinstall it on the new hard drive. Microsoft may allow you to report it as pirate software, but I'm not sure they'll give you a free copy. The other alternative is to contact ToshIba to buy a complete set of recovery disks, or take it back to the shop.

Is it legal to download windows and use my product key to install it?
Is it legal to download windows and use my product key to install it. I found a Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 and downloaded so I can install it. on my computer, I have the key, but no CD.
Vista is now at the SP2 level.
No public download free "legal" of any MS OS does exist, with the exception of trial versions.
Anything you download from a public site carries the risk of associated malware that can be hidden in the facility and is to be avoided like the plague, it may turn out be a carrier.

Cannot find the product key and can not use the gift cards to buy Windows 7 from retail store
Original title: Let Down by Microsoft Retail store
My daughter lives and breathes on his pc. We had some tough times lately, and of course, his computer has had too many problems. In February of this year, I bought a Win 7 Home Premium for his pc. Since we moved, so I can't find the package with the product key, or the disc. I have $75 in gift cards from Microsoft, I need to buy new win 7 hp. Almost all retailers (in store and online) competitive price a new copy for about $119. We have been saving, and with gift cards, I would have just enough money to buy win 7 hp for my daughter. I went to our Microsoft store in the Mall. (Don't forget I saved for about 6 weeks, we are on a budget, then gift cards have been a miracle!) Guess what? The only place that I can use the maps from Microsoft wants $199.99. To add insult to injury - I can't use gift cards for purchases in line-HELP! We waited 2 months just to be left out... I am very disappointed by Microsoft.
I thought that we recorded our product with Microsoft when it was originally installed, but cannot find anyone. All solutions? If you have purchased windows is installed a keyfinder allows you to recover your product key.
I think that the price of $119 is to upgrade xp/vista to windows 7.the $199 price is for the full version. -
I reinstalled Windows 7 on my laptop replacement (top/the original was damaged), but when I entered the product key Microsoft will not accept the number. All solutions anyone?

I just bought a G6 Pavilion with windows 8, where is the product key for windows?
As above, there is a stricker saying Windows 8 64 and that's it.
I need the product key, as to prefer a clean install and need complete recoverability in the event of a HARD disk failure.
When I buy a laptop with a BONE, I expect to have the operating system, not 'rent' it until something bad happens.
Thank you.
Yes, the recovery discs can be used to start the computer and reinstall it on hdd original or new - without needing a license key.
I would always Support HP phone for information on the certificate of authenticity. Choose your country here > Contact HP

Original title: the reactivation of Windows 7.
I had uninstalled my Windows 7, or more to the point, to the format that cause hard drive then I bought a copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and tried to install it on my new hard drive 2 TB, but it is around. But now four to five months and this disc hard seems to have failed, the installation going crazy and ends by not completely. So now I use 8 64-bit Windows, on the hard drive that's used to have my old Windows 7 32-bit, and I try to install Windows 7 32 bit on my VMware Player as a virtual PC, but for some reason any bloody, the thing won't turn on. I got my license and my old Tower, the old tower and the old series of hardware Linux now without all the graphics cards, but it is going to be really just a supermodel, a server for a game and accommodation of the tracks that can be downloaded in the game, all she needs a new motherboard cheap as the motherboard, that he completely fried. But the issue I'm having is with virtual PC, however, I use the license that came when I bought it and is not wanting to turn on, it keeps Gush a BS error, my Windows XP is activated, but my Windows 7 does not. He always tells me that "the product key you entered cannot be used to activate Windows on this computer."
How and why? I'm in my series that accompanies it, and that's exactly as it appears on the label. What I am doing wrong?

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950929/en-usIf your license of Windows 7 is an upgrade:
However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.
15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.
So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

Windows Vista - error in the product key
I have had my computer for 3 years, just he lit after getting back from vacation and it says that my Windows Vista product key is not valid and don't allow me to the computer, with him giving options such as 'try a different product key' or 'buy new '. Windows is already installed on the computer, what do I do because it's not my fault he can't choose the product key to the top. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank youIf you mean that you can not activate automatically, try to do it manually:
To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter. Enter your country and press Next. You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below. Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being. Have your handy product code because it will be asked. Explain the situation, but it's the same PC and only installed on this PC. They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate Vista.
If the problem is you do not have or know the product key, post back because that is a different problem.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

Cannot find the product key for Windows 7 Home Premium
I don't have the product key of Windows 7 Home Premium? Where can I find it?
Original title: Charles 111
Hello
Welcome to the Microsoft community.
I would like to ask you:
- Did you buy Windows 7, or was it pre-installed on your PC?
If you bought a copy of Windows 7, you must have the drive and the product key is on the cover of the disc or the disc itself.
If Windows was preinstalled on your PC, there could be a sticker anywhere on the system with a product key to this topic.
Note: Not all PC makers provide the key on a sticker on the machine body. You may need to contact them for the same thing.
