I can see other computers on a network of peer to peer windows XP but cannot access their shared files and the shared printer.

I can see other computers on a network of peer to peer windows XP but cannot access their shared files and the shared printer. The computers are connected by a switch, fixed IP addresses that are correctly configured and point to a DNS server outside the network. When I try to open the icon for one of the computers, he asked for credentials. I try to type the user name for the computer that is sharing the resource and the password. It is the user account whose computer is loged on and belongs to the Administrators group. for example: user name (Computer1\username) password (password). It does not work. The Windows Firewall is disabled on all computers. It worked well there 2 days. I can't find anything wrong with the network settings. Does anyone have a solution? Thank you.

If the portion of the machine has activated - Simple file sharing (i.e. it is XP Home or it is XP Pro with Simple (default) file sharing) - while all file sharing connections authenticate as user 'guest '.  It will not matter what username / password you provide, it will attempt to authenticate as 'guest '.  If the guest user has received a password or the guest account is not active, you will experience the symptoms you describe.

If the serving machine running XP Pro and Simple file sharing is disabled, then you should be able to connect by specifying the user as computer\user and the password to connect.  To turn off Simple file sharing:

  • Cannot see other computers on my network

Santa brought me a new laptop for Christmas.  I'm now 4 laptop computers on a network.  two are Windows XP home and turn in XP Pro and it is Windows 7 starter.  I have everything in the same workgroup and put the new in this group as well.  Sometimes I can connect to others of my new machine, and sometimes I can't.  Not sure why.  Also, I have tried to share folders of the new machine, but cannot open them on other machines.  Of course, since I've not had much experience with 7 I have a bit of a problem to determine what to do next.  Can anyone help?

  • PC XP sees but cannot access Vista PC on network. Access is denied!

I have 4 computers on a network.  The network is set up in a private capacity.  3 computers XP Home can meet and 1 PC Vista Home Premium and can share files between the computers XP 3.  The Vista PC can see other computers and can send files to them quite happy.

However, when one of the XP computers trying to access the Vista computer I immediately get an error "\\VistaPC is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this resource network etc etc.  Access is denied. "

I turned on the discovery of the network, public folder sharing, file sharing and printer.

Protected by password sharing and multimedia file sharing are turned off, but all shared folders on the Vista PC all have their set of permissions for everyone because I don't want to have to enter the username and password whenever I need access.

LLTD is installed and Vista network map shows all devices and their correct connection; all wired through a Netgear router except 1 wireless XP.

Help, please.  It drives me crazy!

I only use the Windows Firewall and AVG Free anti-virus.

Well, I finally solved my problem, but don't know what action it reached or if it was a combination of actions.  If anyone is interested, here's what I did.

On the Vista machine, I edited sharing the folder Public, all subfolders and files to share fully.

Checked the security settings for all of the public folders, subfolders and files, and then assign full control to all users.

'Everybody' added as a user and allowed full control for this user.

Restarted after each step but when even could not access shared folders on the Vista machine.

In desperation I edited the registry; went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Control / Lsa
Change the value of a key called "restrictanonymous" to 0 instead of 1

Quick restart and Hey Presto my network to work properly

My network is secure and so I didn't bother reduce some apparent security settings.  Don't know if it's appropriate for everyone but it might give some clues.

    Good luck

  • WRT160N - can't see other computers on the network

I installed a new WRT160N and now I can't see other computers on my local network, but I can access the internet on each of them.

Y at - it a setting that I need to change or what I need to use static IP instead of DHCP addresses?

If you cannot ping the other computers on the network, then check your firewall settings or any other security software blocking the connection.

  • Cannot see other computers on the network

    Am on XP SP3.
When I go to network connections,
    Right-click on local area network
Click Properties under the general tab,
Click on install and click Service
.. all I see is a list for a McAfee driver but nothing for Microsoft. I removed my computer some time ago with McAfee & he must have created problems that I can't see other computers on the network. Is there a Microsoft driver, I need to install and which will help to solve the problem of not seeing other computers on the network.

On the general tab of the properties of your network connection to the LAN card, you should see a box under the heading "this connection uses the following items."  Most Windows XP configurations for home use have 4 entries in this box: Client for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler, file sharing and printers for Microsoft Networks, and Internet (TCP/IP) Protocol.

If you don't have these, you need to install, even if you really need not the Scheduler of QoS packages.

You seem to have got almost to the right place, but be aware that when you click on the button 'Install' in the box, you are given 3 choices: customer, Service and Protocol.  The "Client for Microsoft networks" is obviously a "customer." 'Internet (TCP/IP) Protocol' is a 'Protocol' and the other two are "Services".

    What elements you have installed?

  • Why I see 2 other computers on my network?

I noticed in my network that there are 2 other computers and mine, in a "working group", but I'm an end user and I'm not part of a working group. This is a very recent appearance. I couldn't find a way to determine why I see other computers in this working group, and I can't find information on the activation or deactivation of "working group" on my system. I connect via the wireless router for my Internet service provider, and it's a bit confusing to me.

I had problems with slow browsers and I noticed in the performance monitoring that is spiking my CPU (dual core AMD 2 gig), and my use of memory (2 GB) is 50% or more almost constantly, but I can't see anything using resources in 'programs' or 'services '. I tried to eliminate all junk startup and uninstall all the frivolous programs. Of course, I'm still under a bunch of stuff, but I suspect that something is not right.

All the comments about the browser of fortification and slow CPU and if so or not, this could have something to do with the working group that I see?

    Hello

If your wireless connection is not secure, it could be neighbors connecting to your Internet connection.

    -------------------
Of the weaker for wireless security, more strong capacity is.

    No security
Switch Off SSID (even has No Security. SSID can be sniffed easily even if it is turned off)
MAC Filtering___ (Band Aid if nothing else is available, MAC number can be easily Spoofed).
WEP64___ (Easy, "Break" by knowledgeable people).
WEP128___ (a little more difficult to activate, but "Piraté" too).
    -------------------
The three above are not considered safe.
    Safe starts here at WPA.
    -------------------

    WPA-PSK__(Very Hard to Break).
    WPA-AES__(Not functionally Breakable)
    WPA2___ (not functionally breakable).

Note 1: WPA - AES the current interpretation level entry of WPA2.

Documentation of your devices (router wireless and computer wireless card) must indicate the type of security that is available with your wireless hardware.

All devices MUST be set to the same level of security using the same password.
Therefore, security must be set according to what is the best possible one of the wireless devices.

I.e. even if most of your system may be able to be configured to the maximum with WPA2, but a device is able to be configured for maximum of the WEP Protocol, to the whole system must be configured to WEP.

If you need more security and a device (such as a wireless card that can only do WEP) is now better security for the entire network, replace with a better device.

I can't see other computers on the network from my office, but if I type in \\xxxxxxxxxxx I'm able to get on the other computers on the network. How can I have them automatically appear?

I'm terribly sorry for wasting your time.

I realized what the problem was. I've implemented the new computer exactly as the old, same name and everything. Come and find the computer name of the computer being the same as the old conflict and did not again see what was on the network.

So the trick was unplug the old computer from the network.

    What could be the problem?

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You don't want to use the residential group unless you have all Windows 7 machines. If you do and you want to use the homegroup, see Windows 7 Help & Support. Otherwise, in sharing advanced:

Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
    Plug the password protected sharing

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, running on Windows 7 sharing files and printer as above will take care of this for you. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

    D. Si one or more of the computers on your network are XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. In Windows 7 I usually share the Desktop of the user and the Public directory. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

Also check with the manufacturer of the system, their drivers and documentation support online and ask
    their forums (if any).

    ============

You will probably need to reload the drivers of the device and any camera control software.

    Login as an administrator.

Double-click Control Panel / Device Manager - Imaging - writing down of the brand and model of camera.
on this subject and on the tab of the driver is version. Now, click on update drivers (who are unable to do anything as MS
is far behind the pilots of certification). RIGHT click on the camera - UNINSTALL - REBOOT - it
    will update the driver stack.

Now, go to the system manufacturer's website and download the latest driver for the camera and the other related camera
software (if not more recent get the same).

Download - SAVE - go to them and RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN - reboot after each driver.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

Then let windows updates on however prevent loading of drivers who are often older than the
those that you have installed. If updates suggests a pilot and then HIDE it and watch manually to see if their
really is a more recent version (at the time system manufacturer and the sites of the manufacturer of the device).

  • Other computers cannot access my shared folders

I searched this topic and I read all the messages that seem to apply to me.  I still have the problem.  Maybe it's something unique to my setup.

    My computers:

    XP Pro (desktop computer)

    XP Home (laptop)

    Windows 7 (laptop)

I shared the files back and forth on both XP machines successfully in the past to similar problems, but I've always been able to fix somehow.

Once I added the Windows 7 laptop, for some reason, nobody can now access the XP Pro files.

The XP machines are on the same workgroup.  File and printer sharing is enabled. The Windows Firewall is disabled.  I don't have Norton or any other firewall software.

Each computer can see others, and any sharing of files can be used, except that the Win 7 or XP Home can access the XP Pro files.  They CAN be seen, but they are not accessible.

I bought Lightroom 6 a few weeks ago. Summer helping another photographer to edit and she a LR5, beloved. I was editing wedding photos and doing great, until I arrived at the reception. I have a few folders of them since a couple of times, I changed the SD cards. On the first record of them, I can click/Open the first 42 photos, and then the rest I can see but cannot click. What could be the problem? Thank you!

What do you mean by "do not click on '?

I reinstalled adobe CS6. my other macs, I had a printer named 'Adobe PDF', that I could choose that as my printer and a dialogue box came up, I named the file and the location.  I can't figure out how to get this done on my new mac.  Help

There are two ways to create a PDF on a Mac:

    (1) you can use the default method, which is to choose file > print. Click on the PDF menu below on the left, then click on save as PDF. This lets you name and save the PDF file using the mechanism of OS X to create PDF files.

    (2) in the same menu, you can save in Adobe PDF format. It runs a script (a little slow) that lets choose you what PDF settings file you want to use. This is the Adobe-developed mechanism that replaces the old Virtual PDF printer.

  • Cannot access any shared folder on the network of windows 7 Professional

    Hello

I have a very strange problem.

I have a home network with 4 computers.
I can share files from any computer to the other.

Recently, I bought a new laptop Lenovo E530 in with Windows 7 Professional installed on it.
The problem is that I can't access any shared folder on my home network by '\\com-name '.
I cannot yet access the folders on the computer that is shared from the inside, by specifying there name with the prefix "\".
However, I can ping or even make remote desktop on other computers on my network.
I can also access shared folders on my Windows 7 Professional from other computers.
Looks like there is something wrong with the configuration of my OS from Windows 7 Professional blocking access to any shared folder on my network.
I get the following error message:
    Windows cannot access \\comp-name
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, it could...
    Error code: 0 x 80070035
The network path was not found.
I tried to use the button to diagnose, but without success.

I have problems to access the resources within the network when connecting with the Cisco VPN client for a version of 8.4 (3) operation of the IOS Cisco ASA 5510. I tried all new NAT 8.4 orders but cannot access the network interior. I can see traffic in newspapers when ping. I can only assume I have NAT evil or it's because the inside interface of the ASA is on the 24th of the same subnet as the network interior? Please see config below, any suggestion would be appreciated. I configured a VPN site to another in this same 5510 and it works well
