  • After fighting a multitude of Trojans, viruses and spyware, I can't connect to Windows Update and don't worry I'm still infected!

So I'm trying to save my dad's computer (and its files + settings) after that he was struck with a variety of bad guys: Alureon, FakeSysDef, Blacole, Gen-Nullo, difficulty system, etc..

Has finally got the office programs and files back after the entire MBAM, TDSSKiller, SuperAntiSpyware, etc., of jazz, but STILL not get things all the way back to the normal and good scans with MSSE, MBAM and MS Security Scanner are clean, I am afraid that the computer is always infested with something or the other...  (mainly due to my inability to use / access Windows Update: receive the 0x800A0046 error code AND get it published (feat of Java Blacole) out of a Flash drive, I used my system between the two machines... stupid, I know)

so, here are the details: Dell XPS: Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3: seems to have been hit in early November that there is no fixes/updates after 11/14 or more.

I told him years not to run multiple antivirus + spyware programs at the same time, but he ignored me consistently.  I have since completely uninstalled Norton (using their removal tool on a newly created user account, as I couldn't make it work on sound - both are admin ETCA) and Webroot and installed MSSE.  At one point he swindled with system security 2011 and from there installed PC Fix, difficulty system and any other fake antivirus, it can click.  When the first infestation (before everything went to sh * t) I was takled him thanks to a restoration system and scan... About a week later, he ignored previous orders on not clicking or not to install anything without calling me everything first and got the rest of them (see list above).

This time, we could not access any program, web page, without failure, System Restore, its own user account, etc etc.  Somehow (with MBAM, TDSSKiller, etc) I entered the computer, installed process explorer, started the happy hunting and following 'view' & restore icons/programs/etc.  And yet we always face the dilemma of Windows Update, the loss of its sites Favorites/tabs, loss of / NO content in administrative tools (both through the control panel and Start Menu: file is empty when it is open) and inability to use the system restore.

I found this thread ( http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_update/windows-update-not-working-ie8xphome-error/db7956c9-d77c-e011-9b4b-68b599b31bf5 ) in which the fellow was in THE SAME EXACT POSITION I'm NOW - for a tee - who said: "those who would be interested - this problem has been resolved by an engineer from climbing on the Team Support of Windows XP.  It was "Removing Group Policy" through a registry fix, "Reloading safety model" via several downloads and finally run a .bat file also downloaded. "So I guess I need help do the same.

Can someone help me or offer any other advice or assistance to get this sorted out?  Thank you in advance for anything you can do!

    See you soon,.

    Katherine

    Hi Mike,.

Yes, I tried all these steps without success...

    Buuuuut...

I ended up calling the Microsoft's Technet support, which helped me to identify two registry entries that the horde of virus/trojan/rootkit had created changed, that I had not already taken AND finished the download of some clever little program (difficulty WU Utility I think?) which allowed me to reset + reregister the BITs, cryptographic, & System Restore services...  That did the trick (although, as far as I know; dear ol ' pop reported no problems at the moment ;-))

Thank you Jeebus! Laughing out loud

    See you soon,.

  • IE (8) cannot connect to Windows Update

I can connect is more to the Windows Update web page.  IE (8) connects very well to everything else.  I tried all the fixes I have found in the knowedge base to try to solve this problem.  I ran the malware removal of MS SW tool.  There are a few problems and withdrawn.  I ran Malware Bytes, AVG and the window update utility "fixit".  It also won't work if I go directly to the Windows Update Web page.  It fails after the initial check to see if I have the good SW to run it.  Currently, I can't even view the history of installed updates.   I'm looking for any suggestions to fix this problem.   Thank you.

Update: the problem has been fixed.  Last night, with the help of technology Microsoft Windows Update try several things to solve the problem, we finally have downloaded and run the application Kaspersky TDSSKILLER what found and hardened rootkit infection: Alureon.

After re-booting, I connected to Windows Update and downloaded updates of August successfully.  Then, I removed my AVG antivirus (which found nothing previously reported) and installed Avast.  A quick scan found that this same virus again in two places with another and successfully removed them.   Analysis again with all watch all clean now.   It's a nasty infection considering how tools couldn't find and the problems that he was originally.

  • Can not connect to Windows 8 on a computer that cannot connect to the internet

Hello. I have a complex version of a common problem. I can't connect to Windows 8 on a computer that I've not used within six months. The following conditions apply.

    1. I forgot the password which was used last on this computer to turn off the line connection
    2. unable to get the computer online because the only modern it might connect to a fried.

    3. it is a Vaio Duo and has no Ethernet port.

    4. I don't care about the data, so don't mind wiping clean but I don't want to pay for the office. Computer has no hard drive, so I can't restore the BONES of the disks.

    What would you suggest here?

    Thanks for any help

    Hello

Please provide an opportunity to help Microsoft Community.

If you do not remember the password, you can try to reset the password online. You can use Internet Explorer to reset the password for the Microsoft Account.

Open Internet Explorer on another computer, and then try to reset the Microsoft Account password by following the steps in the link below.

Forgotten password and other connection problems

As mentioned you use computer Vaio Duo which I checked comes pre-installed with Windows 8.

If the Windows operating system comes pre-installed on the laptop, then you will need to contact the manufacturer of the system for the installation media that allows you to update or reset the settings of the computer.

Of the manufacturer of the system provides a built in utility to repair the operating system which is known as system recovery partition, I ask you to contact you the Sony Support for more information on how to refresh/reset the settings of the computer.

could you please help me on this.

    Thank you

Windows update no longer works if you don't have XP SP3 installed. To check your level of service pack system, click on start, run and type "Winver" in the Run dialog box and click on 'OK'.  If your system already has XP SP3 installed, you can try reset the windows update components by referring to the link below.

There are Prerequisites for the installation of Windows XP SP3. You can find them by reading the link below.

  • can not connect to windows xp

I lent my xp to my sister; She gave she, but she forgot the password "admin". ERGO, I can't connect to windows. What can I do? Thank you

    Hello

If you are using XP Home Edition, the built-in Administrator account probably doesn't have a defined password. You can start in safe mode, where this account will be selectable when connecting. It allows to connect and change the password of your normal connection.

To start in safe mode, keep hitting F8 twice a second after turning on the PC until you get the start menu where safe mode is selectable by the up/down arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

If you are using XP Professional, try to connect using the built-in Administrator account. You don't need to do it in safe mode (although you can if you wish). If your normal login screen is a display of the user symbol and hit ctrl-alt-del twice to get to login to text entry. Type administrator as the user name and try a blank password.
