I got the Conficker virus and now I can't get Windows Update to work
I got the Conficker Virus/worm infected my system, but have now got rid of him (I think).
I noticed yesterday that Windows Update has just stopped working, it has a red symbol X and said 'windows update cannot currently check updates because the service is not running'. Then, I figured that it could be a virus and tried to download AVG anti-virus, but the virus stopped me to access a website or a program to do with protection against viruses (including all Microsoft sites). Finally, I used a separate laptop and negative to download AVG and some other anti-virus/malware programs and down them mode without failure. I then ran Windows malware removal tool. That seems to have gotten rid of the virus (which has been identified as Conficker), I can now go to any Web site, so it seems that the virus is gone or disabled.
However I can not even access Windows Update. My guess is the virus disabled some component of it, but how now operate again? Is it possible to re-enable it manually? Or y at - it something that I can download to fix?

Error code 8E5E0147, impossible to get Windows Update to work
When I try to download windows updates I get the following error code: "8e5e0147" and none of the updates will be installed. I now like 15 important updates.
I already searched this forum and other forums of solutions, but none of those I've tried seems to fix the problem. That's what I tried:
- Disabled Antivirus and firewall software
- Tried to install updates and
- Manually install the updates by microsoft download. This give me an error code, just "failed to install".
- Run a checkdisk, no errors.

Followed the instructions but I had once to policies-Microsoft-Windows. I don't have windows update so that I could remove to the? This is probably the problem. Got a new Vista CD to reinstall and it won't let me, either. Just search updates. I had this problem essentially since I have my laptop in 2008. All of the updates fail. How can I get windows update to stop suggesting updates, I know that I don't want.
I have windows update set to alert me when there are updates available, but let me choose who is accepted. That's how I like it, and I don't want to change this setting. However, I don't want to know if there's a way to deny successfully an update, so that I'm not yet on this subject whenever I start my computer. It's a gene. I want to just delete some of the list. I don't want to stop doing alerts on updates that I can accept. I'm on vista Home premium. Thank you.

Initially, I couldn't microsoft.com or support.microsoft.com or Windows Update on an HP Pavilion laptop, barely used it for several years, although I could go to any other Web site. I went to the partition recovery and performed a repair. Now, I have the first two but still not updated. I need, for example, SP3, but MS Fixit said he cannot help me until I downloaded SP3, which is not really useful.
There are no viruses or other threats. Can't think what to try next.
