I can't open the JPG photos cropped on my new Windows 8.

* Original title: could not open the photos

I cropped some pictures on my old computer that works with Windows 8 and saved them on an external hard drive. Not trying to open the images cropped on my new Windows 8 they won't open. I have tried with Paint, photo viewer and all options 'open with' and not been successful.

The pictures are all JPeg, any advice on how to open would be fantastic

  • I can't open the .jpg files from the desktop using "Windows Photo Gallery" as the default program. They open normally from nowhere elsewhere, but not directly from the desktop. No error, nothing happens.

If I right click 'open with' open with other programs like IE but not "Windows Photo Gallery". It is not a specific .jpg file, this is all .jpg files. For example... I have a .jpg file in a folder on my desktop, open folder double click, it will open in the "Windows Photo Gallery". Copy and paste the SAME file on the desktop, double-click on, nothing happens. I tried to restart, change the default value of IE, open the file, it opens, by default change to "Windows Photo Gallery" doesn't work... I am confused?

    Hello

Welcome to the community of Windows Vista answers.

    Method 1:

This can happen in the database that keeps track of all the photos and videos in your collection is damaged. You can rebuild your database by:

    (1) close Windows Live Photo Gallery

    (2) · Click Start

    (3) · Click on my computer

    (4) · Paste this address into the address field %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Photo Gallery

    (5) · Right-click Pictures.pd5

    (6) click on rename

    (7) · Change the name of the file to OLD_Pictures.pd5

    (8) · Restart the computer and then try to open the Windows Photo Gallery.

    Method 2:
Try using the tool (SFC.exe) System File Checker to check and repair corrupt system files.  To do this, follow these steps:

    How to run scan SFC

    1. click on the Start button

    2. on the Start Menu, click all programs followed by accessories

    3. in the menu accessories, right-click on command line option

    4. in the drop-down menu that appears, click the "Run as Administrator" option

5 If you have the enabled User Account Control (UAC) you will be asked to consent to the opening of the command line. You simply press the button continue if you are the administrator or insert password etc.

    6. in the command prompt window, type: sfc/scannow then press enter

    7. a message is displayed to indicate that "the analysis of the system will start.

    8. be patient because the analysis may take some time

    9. If all of the necessary files any replacement SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue

    10. If all goes although you should, after the analysis, see the following message "Windows resource protection not found any breach of integrity.

11 after the scan finished, close the command prompt window reboot the computer and check.

  • I can't open the panoramic photos of my samsung s7

I can't open my samsung s7 panoramic photos (jpg). the error message is in English (Lightroom has encountered problems reading of this photo. "You will be able to make adjustments on the photo.) or in German (Beim read sharps Fotos in Lightroom ein problem aufgetreten ist. Sie können keine Lavaggio'm Foto physician.).

I can open images in mac preview / photomatixpro / affinity photo with no problems.

The picture unreadable (20160416_105150.jpg) is not encoded in accordance with the standard of the industry for JPEG files.  Besides that LR, some programs can not read the image, some can.  Of the ones I tested:

Cannot read: Exiftool, FastPictureViewer (Win), Firefox (Mac), Gimp 2.8 (Mac), network (Mac), Lightroom CC 2015.5 (Mac)

Can read: Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 (Mac), ColorSync (Mac), Chrome (Mac) utility, Viewer Image (Mac), IrfanView (Win), painting (Win), Paintbrush (Mac), Photo Gallery (Win), Photos (Win), Photoscape X (Mac), Picasa 3.9 (Mac), Safari (Mac)

You may consider filing a bug with Samsung report.  You can request a feature request in the official Adobe feedback forum outfitted the LR adherence to the standard, as do many other programs.  But I doubt that Adobe would implement demand any time soon, if at all, given that almost all the firmware of the device was able to correctly encode JPEGs.

    Here are the details:

A JPEG file is encoded as a sequence of segments, each phase will begin with a marker.  A marker consists of the byte 0xFF followed of a marker of a byte code.  In the compressed image data, any byte of data equal to 0xFF should be encoded as a sequence of two bytes 0xFF 0x00.

In the picture unreadable, it seems that the Samsung has "forgotten" encode these 0xFF bytes.  Running "exiftool-v4" shows many parasitic segments that appear in the image data:

    JPEG marker 0 x 98 (27076 bytes):

    JPEG SOF6 (1564 bytes):

    JPEG marker 0 x 02 (30962 byte):

    Marker JPEG 0xbd (872 bytes):

    Marker JPEG 0x4c (44612 bytes):

    JPEG JPG3 (65387 bytes):

When a strictly conform to the standard program meets such a misleading segment marker (for example 0xFF 0 x 98), he decides that the image is not valid. But it seems that many programs don't strictly meet the standard.  They ignore these fallacious segment markers, treat them as bytes of data and to "fix" the bug of Samsung.  Samsung engineers probably tested their code with such a program.

  • I can't open the raw photos from the camera. I tried to update.

I recently tried to open the photos I shot in camera raw on my photoshop CS5.  None would be open.  I went to help - updates on my photoshop and tried several times to update my photoshop to allow the camera raw photos open.  Whenever I tried to update, I got the message that there is a mistake, quit and try again. I've done several times and it still doesn't work. I have a Dell pc and I draw pictures on a Nikon D7000.  Please can someone tell me what to do?

You need Camera Raw 6.3 (or later version) installed for this camera.

You can check the version you are using via Help > About Plug-Ins > Camera Raw.

CS5 comes with Camera Raw 6.0 and can be updated from Camera Raw 6.7. The mechanism of updating in Photoshop can be sometimes flaky.

Try manually download and install the camera Raw 6.7. Installation instructions are given at the bottom of the page.

  • Is there a way to open the context-sensitive help in a new window with RH10?

I'm linking my context sensitive help by using the RoboHelp_CSH.js file in my web application.

The correct topic opens when I click on the help link, but it opens in a pop-up window. This causes problems in Firefox and Chrome (which blocks the popups by default).

Is there anyway to force the contextual help topics to open in a new window?

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Using the RoboHelp API, it is quite an annoyance. (Read: great pains)

  • Can I open the old photos of CS4 w / layers in the cloud?

I've used Photoshop for many years and had several versions of it. The one I have now is about 2009... This is CS4. I bought it when I bought my current computer, an iMac.

As a photographer, I have a lot of photos that I work constantly on and save with several layers.

Many years have passed and now I'm a senior! I intend to get the latest version of the iMac with Retina display, but I was told that I would not be able to use CS4 on a new iMac. Is this true? Will I lose my "works in progress" with a data transfer from my current computer for a new iMac? I am reluctant to engage in a monthly program for Photoshop, but if I have to, I'll be able to use my saved Photoshop CS4 "works in progress" with the layers, which hopefully will be able to be transferred to others my data to my new computer?

Waiting for your reply and thank you for any help with this.

Moreover, my young grandson has chosen to learn Photoshop at the College instead of a foreign language. Now, we have something in common to discuss!

Well, you can install CS4 on your new Mac retina, but you have a problem. CS4 is out in front of the retina screens, so you'll have to open in low resolution. It is not capable of retina.

You need to reinstall CS4, it not backup copy. Since you do not have a hard drive, you can get the installer here:

Download Adobe Creative Suite 4 (CS4) products   Just use your serial number. You will not lose your photos, they are separate from CS4 everywhere where you have stored the layers and all the

If you talk about the Photos App on the start screen in Windows 8, there are bugs with how Facebook albums are manipulated and specifically incomplete recovery as you describe. Microsoft removed the Facebook with the Photos App integration in point 8.1 of Windows that will be available 10/18. If Microsoft will never fix the bug you are experiencing. I'm sorry.

  • Photo Gallery can't open the photo because you are not allowed access to the location of the file

Photo Gallery can't open the photo because you are not allowed access to the location of the file some of the image are open

Click on the folder and change your permissions for it and all subfolders and files all rights and if necessary take hand the case (and maybe the parent folder or even its parent - and all of the subfolders and files) until you have the permission you need.  Here are the general procedures to help you:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

Good luck and I hope this helps!
