I can't remove an icon to a non-existent program in Control Panel.

I have Windows Vista Home Edition and completely removed all vestiges of any Apple software on my computer, but I still have a generic now left "MobileMe" Apple icon in my control panel!

When I click on 'Open', I get a pop up window that says "Application not found". When I make a shortcut to the icon of CP and then right-click on properties > change icon, I get "Windows cannot find the file C:\Program Files\Common Apple Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleSyncPref.exe.

Given that the program is apparently completely disappeared from my computer, why is the icon always in Control Panel?

I've tried every way I can think to remove this icon, but have had no success.

Does anyone know a way to remove this icon? I guess this is no little matter as long as it's there, but I find it very annoying!

Thank you!!!

I have lost my Windows XP disc in a move and can't reinstall the file to a disk, how to fix this?

When you use certain features sounds and Audio devices, you see a message like this:

Windows cannot display the control of volume on the taskbar because the Volume control program has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.

It seems that the c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe file is missing.

This may occur if your antivirus/antimalware application thinks the file is suspicious and quarantines (effectively delete) the file.  You can replace the missing file with a backup copy of the file that is in another folder on your system.

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

Assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive...

We know that XP keeps copies of critical system files in the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Using the Explorer, search for or navigate to the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Locate the sndvol32.exe file, right-click, choose copy (it copies the file to the Windows Clipboard).

If your Solution Explorer settings are not set to display file extensions, you will see only a file called 'sndvol32' which has an icon that looks like to the volume control slider (this is the file you need).

If the file is missing in the dllcache folder, look for a copy of the file in this folder:

    c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

Browsing from a level in the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32

Right-click on an empty area in the window of c:\windows\system32 and choose Paste to paste in the missing file where it belongs.

Answered in the affirmative if invited to replace the existing file.

Now try your features sounds and Audio devices.

Note that run sfc/scannow will not replace the missing file because it is not this that sfc/scannow does.

I recently received from remote assistance installed a new anti-virus program. During using the remote technician, I he observed several open windows because it deleted the files that were left by previous anti-virus programs on my computer.  These files prevent the download of the new program.  As I watched him navigate through my programs and files, I noticed that there are a lot of game files that have been deleted by using the functions of the control panel and uninstalling still in my computer.  The technician of 3-4 programs installed on my computer while he removed residual files of the antivirus and promptly removed from these programs when it was correctly installed my new anti-virus program.  I would really like to know how to access files or records what he did and then delete the game files that I thought were removed.  I downloaded at least 100 trial offers for sets of objects hidden over the years and you don't want no trace with my memory of the computer.  No help available out there?

Here is an answer from another forum posted by Rick Rogers:

"There is no method of merging the accounts, simply choose one or.
others and save the data of the impeachment.

Start and connect to one you want to keep. Open Windows Explorer as
Administrator (click right/run as admin) and take ownership of files in
the other profile that you want to save (under your registered profile). You may need to go to start / Control Panel / folder
Options/display/and check the box to see hidden and system files to do (if you do not, you will not miss important information - in particular about your programs). Move the
files you want to put on your user profile. »

There are some files that you should not move - they are documented in the following article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile (which is very close to what do you except that you are not from a user account fresh but one that already exists).

NOTE: Before removing the old profile, I would make absolutely sure all your data are moved and accessible, and that all your programs work correctly.  The time to solve a problem, if there is while you still have available data - not after it has been deleted.  Frankly, I'd let the old profile sitting there for a few weeks or more, just to be on the right side (if you have the space, and I suspect you do).

Here is more information about the permissions you need permissions in its own right and to take ownership of:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Pavilion Elite e9240f: remove a non-existent program

When I open Control Panel > programs and features, the programs include a program that apparently isn't on my computer.  'S called it Internet Explorer Toolbar 4.9 by Sweetpacks. I can't uninstall it; the uninstall process says that it can't find it.  Part of the given info mentions an .msi file that is involved, but I can't find this file, either.  I can't find the registry entries that mention this file or program.  I am convinced that the toolbar is not really on my PC, but how do I get rid of the entry of the control panel that he mentions?

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the Forum from HP Support.

Sweetpacks is a security risk and privacy / adware.

Please, read the instructions for deletion here > https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-sweetpacks-toolbar/

    AdwCleaner should do the trick.

I would like to know if it works.

  • I reinstalled Vista on a new hard drive and after installing the drivers Bluetooth, the icon will not be displayed in the control panel

A few weeks ago my drive hard out crapped on me and I bought a new one. I installed Vista on it and thought that I installed all the drivers. Yesterday, I had to use my bluetooth and noticed that it has not been installed. After knowing that I need a patch for it, I was able to connect my phone to my computer. But now the icon is not in the control panel so that I could easily adjust settings or view paired devices. I can only adjust the settings of the icon in the bottom left of the taskbar. Whenever I try to view paired devices I get the icon of waiting and then nothing happens.

    Macuahuitl salvation,

Ø what service pack is installed on your computer?

If you don't have SP2 on your computer, you may not be able to see the icon in the control panel. Try to install SP2 on your computer and check the status.

    OR

You can uninstall the device blue tooth from the Device Manager and restart the computer that will install the generic drivers, then check if the icon is listed in Control Panel.

    Please post back the result.
