I can't update/install a file BIOS under Windows 7

I'm trying to update my BIOS on my Windows 7 computer. I went to Dell and the file downloaded installation, but when I try to install it (even with administrative rights), I get a window that says: "the system is different between the current system and the ROM file. I performed a test of compatibility of file and found the BIOS file is supported only by Windows XP Service Pack 2, and my computer can not solve the problem of incompatibility. I made sure the BIOS file I download is actually a version of BIOS newer than what I currently have in my computer (A07 [2009] to A05 [2012]). I even tried turning off my software anti-virus and firewall temporarily, in which case it was somehow corrupt download - things strangest occurred - nothing helped. Any suggestions?

Since there is apparently no way to post one response other than an answer on the site, I must say what I have to say by asking another question. I could not update my BIOS is because I chose the download BIOS for the computer model wrong. - the Dell Vostro 270 over 270 s. As it ends, I installed current BIOS. Sorry for the confusion.

Dave.

  • Tecra A8-185 - the update of the BIOS under Windows 7?

    Hi again,

I have a question how update of the BIOS under Windows 7 ultimate x 64. I downloaded the latest version of the BIOS for my laptop (Toshiba Tecra A8-185 PTA83E). After having unpacked there is only the .exe file.

When I try to run this file, he said, that my OS is not supported. When I run it in compatibility mode (with Vista or XP), it starts the upgrade, but gives me an error: "the BIOS upgrade is failure (8). BIOS is not able on this configuration. "What should I do? I really need a new BIOS.

Can I run it at the start of the USB key, or whatever?

    Hi offi55

Why do you need a new BIOS? You may notice some problems with the laptop or why are you trying to update?

However, I think that the update should only be done on the pre-installed Windows version (XP or Vista). I guess that this update n t tested and designed to update Windows 7 so I think that would be the reason why you can t.

So to install Windows from the Toshiba Recovery disk and try to update again. It should work.

  • Can I update to 10 32-bit of Windows if I run Windows 7Pro 64-bit?

I trust currently some fairly old legacy 16-bit software and I can run on 7 Pro x 64 with XPMode - a bit of a pain, but it is essential software, so I do what I do...

I had someone test install and it works on their Windows 10... they have x 64 processor and run x 86 windows 10... other than having to change the default installation locations, it works very well.

My question is, if I have a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Pro installed on my laptop, when I'll update Windows 10, can I choose to install a 32-bit version?  And if I can't, will x 64 run 16-bit software?

    Help!

    Can I update to 10 32-bit of Windows if I run Windows 7Pro 64-bit?

No, at least not directly.  To do this (to change your number of bits), you need to wipe your drive and reinstall the new type-bit Windows you want.  But you also have to do the upgrade directly from Windows 7, if you want Windows 10 to be free.  So, here's what to do:

    1. be sure to save all the files you want to keep and have your ready installers for your additional programs, you'll want to install again.

    2 - pass from 7 to 10.  You will stay on 64-bit.

3 activate Windows so that he knows that this computer is allowed for the 10 free.

4 - Download the Windows 10 Installer to a port USB or CD and use it to clean install 10 Windows (32 bit this time)

Another option would be to retain the 64-bit, but start your 16-bit on a Hyper-v virtual machine software.  Best of both worlds and you will have to use more memory since 64-bit allows you to use more than about 3 GB of RAM.

Backup of personal data (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then do a format and clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

TIP: There may be a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you can use to reinstall Windows XP.

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or a network otherwise and before using a USB key that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

I need a repair of xp, or all that it can be called and information how to fix this problem is driving nuts me to have a laptop that is faulty... Please help me.

    This problem happens almost daily.

You can search the forums for discussions with similar problems (or the same problem) and peruse the threads where the result is a happy ending and examine everything first using these methods.  This will reduce the time to resolution and frustration.

    Something like this example:

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/XPRepair/thread/83d5c57f-9836-4f3a-bec8-04c7d81861d3/

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination? (this includes pulling and buttons power)

These can cause corruption in the file system that must be fixed before you do anything else.

If none of these events occurred (or even if they have not taken place), you must verify the integrity of your file system before anything else (especially "try" things).

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do.  Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the command prompt.

Start by checking the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.  It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

Do not guess what the problem might be - understand and resolve it. I need YOUR voice and the points for helpful answers and propose responses. I'm saving for a pony!

  • Can I temporarily install an OEM version of Windows Vista Edition Home Premium on a virtual PC?

original title: can I TEMPORARILY install a copy of OEM Vista home on Virtual PC

I want to do a test run of my upgrade scheduled by using Virtual PC to make sure that I select the correct options which will not FUBAR my current system.

To this end, can I take the drive provided by gateway labeled "Disk Operating System" and install on virtual pc by using the product key from the back of my PC, while at the same time that the current key is used to run the host operating system.

I don't care about activation within 30 days, nor I care incidentally WGA (unless to do an upgrade installation), or even legality because of some stupid too restrictive EULA, I just keep can I do to make it work, then try to upgrade to 7 business to a second drive.

When the tests are done, I'll delete the virtual machine and try it on the "live" system The problem is that I need to use the system with the keys that I use for these tests to do as I have nothing else not powerful enough to run Virtual PC for Vista/7.

I'd rather FUBARing a virtual computer to the computer that I use to post on this forum. I don't want to take the risk of disabling the key on my current system because he thinks that I moved the key to a new.

in fact, you were right for the wrong reason. It did not work with Virtual PC, but not for the reason you think. Setup requires a 64-bit computer.

Makes me wonder, which actually means "virtual PC 64"? I thought I had the 64-bit version of VirtualPC.

On the other hand, VMware Player had no problem with the installation. I put the virtual machine have no network card or any medium of communication. Also found it was a good thing that I was intending to double, as I can't upgrade with what I have. Or maybe it's because I have a not activate the installation I did.

What I was trying to do, is check what to do a dual boot works the same way with Vista/7 as it does with previous versions of windows. I was thrown off the coast by warnings from installation CD on "this option does NOT keep your files. Audit confirmed through VMware Player.

    I install on a second disc with a backup of some files on what I decided to save the 80 GB for Linux drive. I wish it was an IDE hard drive, as I have much more need for a > 40 GB drive but<13Xgb (i="" can't="" recall="" what="" that="" bios="" limit="" on="" older="" computers="" was,="" it="" was="" 130-something,="" but="" some="" it="" was="" 127gb)="" on="" another="" older="">
