I can't watch videos in windows media player?

Hey,.

I wanted to watch a few videos I have, it's only in wmv format. But when the Player loads the video you see the regular clear picture just for a second, then the entire video is blurry and you can't see nothing just darkened the colors. You can hear the video simply did not see. And upstairs there was this bar that says file, ect, ect, but it isn't there anymore. What should I do to fix this problem. I will appreciate help from anyone. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Manual

Hello MArmandoP,

1. do you have this problem only with the .wmv files?

2A this long before work on the computer?

If the problem affects all or most of the video files, the software driver video card may be outdated. I suggest that you update the video card drivers. You can see the underside of section which will give you information on how to update the drivers:

I imagine the inconvenience that you have experienced, but don't worry, we are here to help solve the problem and guide you in the right direction.

To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:

    1. Since when are you facing the issue?

    2. you have any anti-virus installed on the computer program?

3 are you aware of any changes made to the computer before the show?

You can run the Troubleshooter to settings and check if it helps.

You can also change the hardware acceleration and check.

Try to reduce (or turn off) video hardware acceleration by doing the following:

    1. open Screen Resolution by clicking on the Start button, click Control Panel, and then, under appearance and personalization, clicking
    Setting screen resolution.

    2. click on advanced settings, click the Troubleshooting tab, and then click change settings.

Note that some video card drivers do not allow allows you to change the settings.

    3. move the hardware acceleration slider to none to reduce or turn off video hardware acceleration.

I also suggest you to run a SFC scan (System File Checker). This will replace the corrupted Windows files.

Hope this information was helpful and let us know if you need assistance in the future. We will be happy to help you.

  • I get a black screen when I play videos in Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center.

Until recently, all worked well for a long time. Now when you try to watch live TV or a DVD, I get a black screen with sound in Windows Media Center and trying to watch a DVD in Windows Media Player I also get a black screen with sound. The controls are there and functioning normally. DVDs are normally visible in the K-Lite Media Player Classic.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, a tuner TV of SiliconDust HD Homerun networked and a videocard ATI Radeon 4550. I have all the latest updates.

I found and tried many recommendations of the Internet for problems like this, and none helped.

The video card driver is the latest provided by ATI to Microsoft for Windows Update and is dated from 19/04/2011. I tried to install the latest Catalyst software and driver from the ATI site, which does nothing to help, and then uninstalled. These drivers provide no option to adjust the hardware acceleration.

I had an older version of K-Lite codec package installed. The problem does not change if I have the old version, the last 32 + 64 bit version or no version installed.

In Control Panel, I tried to disable Windows 7 media, reset their reactivation components and reboot again. There is nothing.

I had an older version of installed package from Cyberlink. The problem remains the same if I have the old version, the version the most recent or any installed.

I tried to uninstall all Apple software: QuickTime, iTunes, etc. There is nothing to help.

I tried to create a new user account; same problem there.

I have VMware and a virtual machine that is running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. In this machine, I can view DVD normally with Windows Media Player, using the same physical DVD drive. I don't have Media Center set up in this machine.

Title photo: original No. in Media Center and Media Player

The problem is now resolved. I removed the software installed probably because the problem started, and Cisco Webex, which I did not need, was probably the culprit, although I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks to those who have tried to help.

  • Sound with no video in Windows Media Player or any other software I've tried.

I have no video when I play all the files on my computer no matter what program I use. I updated my driver for video card, re-installed the software. Verified that both we are up-to-date. The files are files simple .wmv and .mpg. They have worked in the past but now when I pull it up its just audio. The box of the video Viewer will be resized according to the picture, but there is no picture. I am a computer technician, and which left me speechless. Can someone help me or point me in the right direction please!

Looks like you have corrupted codecs on your computer. You may need to reinstall or re-register the codecs so Windows to recognize them again. Here is a longer version of this explanation on what to do if you have the sound but no video in Windows Media Player.

It is not that there is a problem in Windows 7, it is more likely that you don't have just the installed CODEC the video file is saved with.  You will need to find a source, download and install any CODEC no MS yourself. You can use GSpot to identify CODECs used in AVI files. An alternative to downloading of many individual CODECs is to install FFDSHOW instead. Some media players like VLC and Media Player Classic also have internal CODECS and support for a wide variety of video and audio file types.
