  I'm well aware of that. The "no user input" occurs when the Dell is used on a Dell PC because the SLP routine is dependent on the CMOS chip from the motherboard on the Dell XP installation CD custom and the associated code.

  However, if I understand correctly, you can always use the Dell on a non - Dell PC (problems of licence notwithstanding). But the person would need to use a valid OEM key. Reviewing the report of diagnosis of the OP, it seems that what he was doing (note that the key is NOT one of the "Golden master" Dell keys). And when we run the diagnostic tool, it lists all inconsistencies/anomalies.

  OP wanted to know why he didn't this happen before. Assuming that most of the time everything was the same, my guess is the other time, it had not installed the WGA update, which forced the issue this time.
