First of all, make sure that you don't have two accounts with the same address. What happens if one of them is an iCloud account.

From the Mail menu bar, you select

▹ Connection Doctor window

In the window that opens, look for an SMTP (outgoing mail) account with a name that corresponds to the account that you are trying to add. Double-click it. Another window opens, displaying the list of all outgoing mail accounts. Click the sign button less to remove the corresponding one, and then click OK.

Try to add the email account again. If you still can not, log off or restart the computer, and then open the preferences window accounts Internet and check if the account is displayed.

    I just upgraded to El Capitan and the e-mail program has deleted one of my emails.  Yahoo email is there but is not that of Cox.  He directs me to iCloud, but I can't find anything wrong.  The settings for Cox look right and I can send Cox and get it... I just can't get anything.

    I tried to rename the Mail account in the library by another post, but I always get the same answer that the mail account already exists, and he directs me to iCloud.  I look at account information and it says its offline so I go to preferences and this is not.  Frustrated by that!

    Also... this account indicates also his related to internet accounts and again, no matter what I try I can't start fresh... it's related to my iCloud.

    Please delete the Exchange account in the preferences pane accounts Internet and then re-create it with the same settings. Messages remain on the server and must be re-downloaded automatically.

    Sorry about that. I suspect that nobody has really worked what it is you are trying to do. In Windows 7, it there was absolutely no link between user account data and a process of e-mail or the program you may be using. If you use Windows Live Mail, you can delete an e-mail account by right-clicking on its name in the folders pane and selecting remove account. This will remove all records of account and permanently remove their content. If there are messages that you want to keep in a folder account, move them to the folders defined by the user under storage folders before you delete the account.

    If this isn't what you mean, so please explain a little more clearly what you are trying to do.

    It is partially open, but I think there was some debris. I disabled the debris, but the "lid" is badly stripped. I stopped as I would not completely destroy the compartment cover. Any suggestions?

    I had a similar problem with another camera, but a very similar configuration, a round lid on a stack of pancakes about two years ago. I got to have adhesive PuTTY handy of Museum at the time.  I took enough Putty to cover the circular cover, let it sit for just a moment, or so that he could 'stick' (it's not like glue, it will come off easily). I have enough of the dough (about a 3/4 inch ball) used to create a handle and everything pushing down pretty firmly on the sealant to keep it on the cover, I did one-quarter turn and cover came out.
